Ok..Let's be really honest here..for me having my picture taken is almost as scary as going to the dentist. I just don't photograph well. Kara shot our wedding in Chicago on September 1, 2013. She did an amazing job! She is super professional but also so sweet. It was a pleasure working with her for the whole day. She knew how to give people direction and was very diligent about making sure everyone looked amazing in each photo. She's very good about listening to suggestions and then taking it one step further. Especially when there are so many moving pieces and people to keep track of. For example, my now-husband and I wanted to get a group shot after the ceremony...with all 130 guests! Our plan was to walk around the block alone to give Kara time to set the shot. We barely got to the gates of the garden when we were called back. I couldn't believe how quickly she organized everyone and she took charge immediately to get several great group shots which is hard to do with 130 peeps. Plus, she was very prompt with the edited photos, which is awesome because it's hard to be patient after your wedding to see how the day turned out. The Planner: Kara was a gem to work with. What stood out to me the most about her work, from our first conversation to the final photo shoot, was the level of personal care that she brings to the table. When I sent the very first email inquiry introducing myself and asking about her business, she responded with a phone call. She really wanted to get to know myself, my situation with Carli, and how she could make it special. When we discussed pricing, she did it almost regretfully! Kara was on top of communication throughout the entire process, and offered suggestions where it made sense. At no point did she ever try to take over the moment or make it about anything except Carli and myself. I can't recommend her work highly enough, and can safely say that our engagement was made 10x better with her involved! The Surprised: My fiance, Eric, hired Kara to capture our surprise engagement at Trillium Lake, Mt. Hood, Oregon, in June of this year. First off, their incognito relationship was well-done, as I had no clue such planning was occuring behind my back! As Eric proposed in one of the most picturesque places we've been, I completely thought we were alone with nature. While we embraced after the proposal, I heard some camera clicks as Kara approached. She was warm and genuine, while being respectful of our intimate moment together and excited to be the first to know of our engagement. Kara was wonderful to work with. I found her first through online reviews, and let her know that I was planning a surprise proposal while on a trip to Portland. I wasn't very familiar with the city, so Kara sent me suggestions for proposal locations as well as example photos from her prior shoots. Once I settled on a specific park, she gave me specific options for the "spot", complete with pros and cons, example photographs, and maps for how to get there. When the weather forecast included rain all day, Kara was incredibly communicative and actually had the flexibility to move our shoot to the next day (this was above and beyond!). She told me how she would be dressed and she stayed nearby, photographing plants, as my fiancé and I walked through the park. She sneakily captured the surprise proposal, and then joined us for an hour engagement shoot. She had ideas for locations, poses, and how to make us feel at ease. We got the draft gallery later that day and had trouble narrowing down our favorites. Kara thankfully allowed me to upgrade the package so that we could get more edited photos! The online gallery was incredibly easy to navigate and the photographs themselves are so artful and special. She even included black and white versions of each photograph because we had foregone some photoshoot time when we upgraded the package. All in all, it was such a pleasure to work with Kara.
