I will keep her in mind for future projects. Clearly she's running a great business because she's booked out for several months, so my advice is to ask for your quote at least 6 months in advance of when you need the item. Jessica is very transparent about pricing and timelines. User-friendly software clearly displays the total line-by-line, and the total aligns well with other similar quotes I received. Jessica charges fitting fees to compensate for her time so that you can cross alterations asks off your list and bring down your total if you're happy with initial or minor changes. She is budget-conscious and wants to give you the best result for the lowest price. Jessica has a philosophy that she doesn't make decisions about your alterations but rather equips you with information for you to decide what aligns with your priorities. Jessica seems conscious and supportive of all body types and levels of modesty, for example when she explained options for potential bust cup alterations. Jessica helped me understand the alterations industry more broadly, including common pitfalls and bustle types. She gave business-related tips like getting quotes in writing and understanding fitting fees/guarantees for exclusive work prior to going to a business. Her personal choice is to vet clients over the phone first to ensure a good fit prior to bringing your garment to her. Others may have you in for a fitting before quoting or exchange just over email. I learned so much from her over one phone call and loved her genuine communication style. I initially got her name from a local seamstress based on the type of garment I had. I'm not surprised Jessica has a great local reputation among peers in the Nashville area!

If you need to have a button sewed on, or need to hem a pair of pants or a dress, or perhaps even to have a new zipper added to a garment, Mindy's will do a reasonably good job. What they probably won't do is to provide it when they say they will, and they will not call you when they say they will...or indeed at all. But what if you need something bigger altered? I dropped in a coat to have the sleeves shortened. "No problem" they said. I told them I would be out of town for a month; they told me the garment 'should' be ready by then. It wasn't! Over the next few months I called in, and phoned to see how they were doing. On each occasion they told me they would call me and let me know. Six times in a row they failed to do this. Eventually I called in and said I need the coat. "Okay, Monday it will be ready, and I'll call you" I was told. They didn't call, so I called them. I was told a line of BS that was hard to swallow. They told me their leather work machine was broken and so they couldn't do the repair until their new one arrived. Fine..Except the coat is a Sherpa and made of cloth, not leather. I have used a domestic machine to make Sunbrella shades and covers for a boat and know what I was told, was rubbish. Still, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. So I called a week later and guess what, the new machine arrived but it was broken. Perhaps I look more stupid than I think. I had had a gutful! I called in and asked for the coat. "Don't have it, it's at home, I can have it repaired by Monday". I wouldn't be conned again and told her I will be in on Monday to pick it up. I did that and collected the coat. There was no evidence of  heavy duty sewing, but there was evidence of butchery. The sleeve was a complete mess. Torn material, sewing that would have been better done by an elementary student with basic skill, and I honestly thought the coat  was a write-off. I took it to a tailor who confirmed the diagnosis, but said she would try to save this very expensive, near new garment. Mindy's is a basic button sewing operation. If you have a garment you care for, I urge you to take it somewhere else. Their failure was complete and included a lack of talent, a failure to communicate and, I believe, they knew they had done a very bad job and deliberately tried to to deter me in the hope I would eventually forget about them and walk away. I wouldn't, and I didn't.
