Throughout COVID-19, I wanted to start a needlepoint project but had trouble finding the materials, even online. I searched and found Needle Hearts locally and made my way over there and had an excellent experience. They are extremely knowledgeable regarding needlepoint and are helpful to get you started on any project, beginner to experienced. Went here today for the first time and had a fantastic experience. They greeted me shortly after I walked in and asked if I needed help, even though both women working had their hands full with other customers. The woman who did help me was very nice about insisting to put back items I'd pulled and didn't ultimately buy. They were also very nice about helping me find much less expensive options when what I'd pulled turned out to be too much. Although the selection of threads and canvasses is terrific, the owner and her sales women are incredibly rude and are bothered by any questions, especially as to how long your project will take for finishing. By the way, be prepared for a 3-4 month delay. I will be finding another store where my business is appreciated!! read more

Rude Rude Rude don't bother going here unless you are ready to have thread thrown at you and totallly ignored. I walked in to pick up some thread i had on hold..."lady"?? Barely looked up threw thread at me and didn't say anything else so i let it go and asked her if she had other types of thread i needed...she started picking things out and said look at these then kept doing other stuff and then i said do you have something that's fuzzy and she said "..welllll I don't think snow is fuzzy but here!! Ok first of all when you go in a needlepoint place you expect help not leading insults.. Longer story but giving u highlights DON'T BOTHER GOING HERE they are too busy to help anyone that has any questions or they dont know The fact that you say your employees are very good at their job has nothing to do with my review. Omg, I was in my needlepoint class today, and Charlene, the teacher, was working the front desk as well as teaching a class. There was one lady pulling her own threads, and this other lady came in and expected Charlene to drop assisting her class and the lady at the desk to help her. This lady was so rude to a great woman. Wish I can rate this place with zero stars! My Hispanic mother walked in just a few minutes ago and was basically shunned by the ladies inside! My mom loves cross stitch and has been wanting to learn how to needle point and asked the lady about classes, to which she rudly replied that all the classes were full. I have been going to NeedleHearts for over 30 years, and have never had the kind of experience claimed by Amelia B. First of all, it is a needlepoint shop, and they don't carry cross stitch supplies, nor do they teach it, so it would not be the right shop for her anyway. The people who do work there are always friendly, always helpful and always welcome new shoppers. However, in light of the appalling treatment she claims she received, she must be some kind of perfect person. On each of her subsequent three visits she put a smile on her face, figured the person was having a bad day, apologized and didn't want to inconvenience anyone, was extremely grateful for the employee's time, apologized again....came back a fourth time, once more with a big smile. Wow, that's not the way I'd act if I had been treated the way she claims. She is practically perfect in every way! Who are you really Amelia B? Mary Poppins? You couldn't find another person in the country that would give that kind of a review to this fabulous needlepoint shop! read more

I have been to Needlehearts exactly 4 times. That was exactly 3 times too many. My first experience was lovely. I was so excited to find a needlepoint shop in my area because I'm a huge cross stitch enthusiast! I went in just for a quick look and was greeted by a very sweet lady. There was a group working in the back and all was well. I told the lady how happy I was to have found this place and she was happy as well to have a new customer! I came back a couple weeks later because I needed a couple colors. I came in with my project in hand. A group was happening in the back just like the first time I had been there. This time a different lady came up to me and begrudgingly asked me what I needed. I put her attitude aside and cheerfully showed her my project and asked if she could help. She groaned and lead me over to the thread I needed. She definitely didn't help me, she made me feel like I was a burden and treated me like I was unworthy to be in there. So I paid and left with a smile on my face, maybe she was just having a bad day. I went back again and the same grumpy lady was there. This time was much worse. I walked into the store at 3:02 - all the lights were off but the door was open and the lady was there. I ask if they're still open. I could tell she was extremely annoyed. She said that they closed at 3:00. I apologized politely and said I'd come back tomorrow. I started to walk out the door when she asked me what I needed. I said that I really didn't want to inconvenience her and that it wasn't a big deal. She rolled her eyes and looked at my project again and was very upset when I asked for her opinion on which thread I should get. (I'm a self taught cross stitcher and still have some questions.) She thumped her way to the color I needed and then slammed it on the counter. I told her that I was extremely grateful for her time. I reached in my wallet and pulled out my debit card. She looked up at me and said she wanted cash instead. I didn't have any. She said that she had already unplugged the card machine and that I could only purchase something with cash or check. I also didn't have my check book on me. She was so fed up that she said, "Jesus Christ, are you kidding me?!" I was so shocked that someone would say that to a customer. I apologized and said that I'd come back tomorrow with cash. She threw the tread behind the counter and I thanked her again for her time and ran out of there! The next day I went to pick up my thread and there was a different woman there (thank god!) However, I was disappointed to find out that she was equally as grumpy! I came in with a big smile and said that I had thread behind the counter that was saved for me. She found it, and rang me up. She never said one word to me. Not how is your day going, or thank you for your business. . . she was just incredibly annoyed that she had a customer. I do not understand the people who work in this shop?! I am a 21 year old girl who walked into this shop each time eager to learn from these women. I feel like if you have an excited young person walking into your shop why would you turn her away?? I will never go back to this shop even though it is very close to where I live. I was treated with such disrespect that I'd happily take my money somewhere else. read more

I have been using this shop longer than Ellen has owned it and since taking over, in my opinion, it pains me any time I have to go in there. She is curt, totally unfriendly, but cooperative. However, she talks too much. I called with a problem and she quickly informed me it had probably been more than 20 years since I had this particular 3-d jointed bear put together and just because the thread holding the arms and legs on were coming loose, she wouldn't guarantee it if she had done it. As she walked away to get the finisher's phone number for me, I could hear her talking to other people there and heard her say, "it's probably been longer than 20 years." She really should learn tact and friendliness. read more

I love this place. I wish they'd have sleepovers so I could spend the whole night surrounded by amazing canvases and all those beautiful threads. While I think everyone should come and experience the joy, keep in mind it is that they are "exclusively" needlepoint. This DOES NOT mean that you will be out of luck if you need some of the supplies for embroidery, hardanger, cross stitch, etc, They have an array of threads and tools applicable to those stitching activities, just not patterns or instruction for those. What Needle Hearts specializes in are the beautiful, hand-painted canvases for needlepoint (there are a few starter printed kits that serve well for getting your friends or grandchildren hooked on the hobby or for travel stitching). If you don't see it in the shop, they've always been happy to help me track down a canvas with an odd theme (I needed an alcohol-themed stocking, and they helped me find it), and when they couldn't recollect what designer might have done something like I wanted, they've had their excellent shop painters create/augment canvases for me. They have also helped me out of numerous problems on canvases -- picking stitches, working out where I got off pattern, hunting down missing stitches, etc. Possibly the thing I appreciate the most is that they don't dog your steps around the shop. You can wander at will and contemplate to your hearts content -- they'll pull threads (and dang they are good at that) and help you if you need it, but I generally like to do that on my own so I really like that they will let people alone to think things through without pestering. Because so many people use them the way I do to solve problems and guide their needlepoint journey, it can get really busy in there so patience or an open-ended schedule is sometimes necessary if you need detailed help. But they do offer classes so if you find yourself needing lots of help on pieces, join one of the classes -- you will come away with a herd of new friends and augmented talent with your needle. The biggest problem is parking, but there is a free valet in the lot behind the store. read more

I am sad to see some pretty negative reviews of this place on YELP! We had an absolutely dreamy experience. The owner was not at the shop but 4 lovely woman, who were all very busy working on projects at the table, were! We flew in from San Francisco that day and went to the shop at 2:30 on a Saturday. I called earlier in the day and they said they closed at 3pm. I figured that 30 minutes would be plenty of time for my daughter to pick out a canvas for her talit bag for her Bat Mitzvah. I could NOT have been more wrong. I had no idea what a process this was because I have never done needle point before. The moment we walked in, they had remembered the phone call from earlier and said "we were wondering if you would make it in today." This was literally the only day I could get there because I was flying back home on Sunday. They did not rush us one bit! In fact, they said "take your time, this is a big decision and shouldn't be rushed." My daughter was pretty efficient and actually took only 10 minutes to pick her canvas. What happened next absolutely astonished me. One of the women spent the next 30 minutes (did I mention they had technically closed already at this point?!) carefully picking and matching the colors she would need to complete the project. She them made a map of the canvas that would act as our color guide throughout the project. Then, another woman (Jennifer) sat down with my daughter and got her started. She showed her a few stitches and then let my daughter do a couple of rows and answered some questions for her. We walked out of the shop at 4:15 (over an hour after they "closed"). My daughter was completely elated and said "Mom, we need to give them an awesome YELP review!" We will go back there when we are in town next to check in...as they requested. I have been a customer of Needlehearts for nearly ten years. ALL of my experiences, whether purchasing canvasses and threads, seeking assistance on numerous occasions, determining how to have my projects finished, and/or viewing my finished project, have been positive, friendly, never rushed and in a word, terrific. The entire staff, including Ellen the owner, has been helpful and kind. The prices for canvasses, threads and finishing are quite fair and far more reasonable than other needlepoint stores in the area. It is a pleasure to be able to patronize this store. read more
