While on a personal yarn crawl from SLO to San Diego, we made a point to check in at Zoe's Knit Studio. The shop has a lovely, open feel with lots of great yarn and really friendly staff. They have great samples up to inspire you (my favorite was Zoe's Zoo with animals from the Crochet a Zoo book) and plenty of seating (table plus separate sitting area) for classes or visitors. Lots of lush yarn, I splurged on Zucca, a plush nylon that knits into a super soft blanket, cowl, scarf, hat.... Super friendly staff were happy to share tips and we also heard them serve an unhappy customer, doing such a great job that the customer was smiling and chatting before she left. I love a yarn shop that puts customers first! Parking appears to be only on the street; we got there early and had no trouble finding a space. read more

This shop is my happy place. From the first time I walked into Sule's shop I was welcomed by an amazing community of women. I love being surrounded by the most beautiful yarns from all over the world. Sule the owner is not your typical business owner. She travels the world to find the most unique products for her clients. I am new to the area and was looking for a place to help me wind a single skein of yarn. I called and explained I brought the yarn from my last hometown and asked I could possibly use their swift and winder. The lady promptly told me no and said that it is only for people who buy yarn at their store. I explained that I would be willing to pay and that I was simply looking for a nice new yarn shop for future projects. I told her I like to shop local and really want to find a local shop to use for all of my projects. She sounded very put out about it and said "I guess you can come in" ... This is a far cry from the neighborhood yarn shop I want to call my "knitting home" ... by simply letting me use their winder (even charging me) they could have gained a loyal customer for life. Instead she sounded like I was completely imposing on her. I don't understand why people in customer service are ever snobby..... what on earth do you stand to gain from saying "no" to a potential customer. Holy Cats - I think the lady from Mission Viejo needed a hug or something. My first visit to this shop was enchanting. Enchanting? Yes people, it was enchanting. Not only did my fellow knitters help entertain my little toddler, but they motivated and encouraged me to take on a knitting task that I didn't think I could do. Marla helped me pick out yarn that was suitable to my project and she was extremely patient with my litany of questions. The ladies knitting were as diverse as the colors, styles and quantities of yarn present. The store was inviting, warm, friendly and reminded me a mini utopia. Big big thumbs up from me. As an outsider, I was welcomed to join in and they weren't put off by me showing up with a small stroller and child. I can't wait to go back for more yarn, my project is almost complete! read more

We stopped in because my teen daughter, a beginning knitter, wanted to buy a circular needle and some yarn to attempt her first hat. The owner spent lots of time helping her choose the right needle, showing her how to use it, getting her set up ("casting on"), handwriting instructions for a pattern for a simple hat, and then she even encouraged her to come back for more help with the hat later. I've visited this yarn store after a meeting of the Greater Los Angeles Spinning Guild. It was a lazy Saturday afternoon. When I walked in the store there were a handful of women knitting in the living room area. One of them looked up and greeted me but quickly turned back to chatting with her friends. I walked the small store and found it had the typical yarns you'll find in almost every store-- things like Noro and Malabrigo, but nothing to distinguish it from my LYS. I left empty handed because the salesperson didn't offer to help me or make me feel welcomed. I left empty handed because there were no unique or interesting yards of note. Still, if I lived in the neighborhood this would be a perfect place to sit, net, and make new friends. Recommend for locals but not for yarn hoppers. read more

This review is for a private lesson with Marla. I am a capable but illiterate crochet-er, unable to read patterns, but have the basics down. I sent Marla a pattern that I wanted to learn ahead of time. She printed it, evaluated it, translated it, and taught me to read very easily within the hour. She was patient and graceful, able to quickly ascertain where my mistakes were and how to correct them, showed me some pointers and techniques for more effective crocheting, and had a warm and pleasant attitude the entire time. She invited me back at any time if I was stuck on a certain place in my work. In summary, it was the lesson that took me to the next skill level! A nice little shop with a good selection of different yarns, friendly people & a cute Maltese! Some very beautiful, inspiring samples, too. Walked in here today to get some red yarns for my first handmade scarf. They didn't have the exact shade of red I wanted, but one of the ladies (I think the owner) showed me how I could match two different yarns together to create the look I want. I'm excited to start knitting with them! Street parking. There are a lot of metered parking on Melrose, but just go into a residential street and park there. 2-hour parking. read more

Also willing to order hard to find felting supplies for me even though it s a knit store. Speaking of it's yarn for knitting, can we talk about the GORGEOUS stock she did have in store? This yarn shop has oodles of yarns that I have never seen, & there's a sale rack in the back. The only problem I have is parking. The dreaded 2 hour meter parking. There's a large table right in front of the shop that you can sit & knit. This totally made my Saturday morning. Well worth the drive. I'll definitely be back. read more

What a great little find! I live in Santa Monica and have driven into Hollywood twice to go to this shop. They are so helpful and friendly! I am not a new knitter but I don't knit as often as I'd like. I usually stick to the easy stuff (a scarf here and there). I decided to make something a little more challenging and was greeted with lots of helpful advice on yarn and needles. Sule is a wonderful guide and will get you even more excited about your upcoming project. There is a great area to work on your knitting and just hang out and feel super comfy. Nice yarn shop with a good selection, staff are all very friendly and eager to help. I thought the interior lighting was a little dark though, I bought a ball of yarn that I thought was a deep red/maroon blend and it turned out to be more purplish when I brought it out to the daylight. I'll still put it to good use though! Seems a little pricey, not sure I'm saving any money knitting my own scarves and slippers with yarn purchased from Zeynep, but I do appreciate the knowledgable staff and wide selection of yarns in stock. read more

I am a fairly new knitter. I went into Zoe's to get some help with a project that I had made some mistakes on. The older women working there said "no, it's not my yarn". She made me feel like I wasn't worth her time or energy to help me because I had not purchased my yarn from her. I certainly didn't expect her to drop everything to help me, but for her to say what she was poor service. I will never go back to that store. I will take my business and money elseware. read more

Attended the beginner's knitting class here. Was very informative, fun, and the instructor was very patient. Store has a nice setting and provides a tranquil yet light atmosphere for learning the craft. They provided us with the necessary tools and even told us to call or come back anytime for help if needed....and looking at the yarn selection was very inspiring. There were so many amazing colors and such a wide assortment available for purchase. My only "complaint" would be the parking situation is a little annoying, but not really the store's fault. I happen to google this place by chance, since I was going to be in the area, and was very anticipating in what I would find. It was a very warm and inviting knitting shop, and had no inhibitions in being there with ladies that I didn't know for years, but yet was able to knit with them and converse.
