I love the concept of a company that can do whatever you want done to your house and property. Give them a list and they give you a price and they offer advice and maybe options you weren't aware of. I had one on the East Coast and I had one on the West Coast - Neil Kelly, for the latter. In both cases, most jobs were done well and others weren't, and I've concluded that that is the natural outcome where businesses try to be jacks of all trades. They depend, at times, on subcontractors who may not be stellar. A failed project manager myself, I appreciate the challenge of that business model. At no time did I feel that Neil Kelly was trying to take advantage of us and a lot of their work was very good. But I've resolved to deal with specialists now, as much as possible, and I keep a spreadsheet of them. read more

Had our kitchen remodeled by Neil Kelly in early 2000's. They did an outstanding job. Right at the tail end of Covid, we down sized and did a much larger remodel. We chose NK again due to our previous experience. Sadly the experience was not the same. There were several instances in which the plumber and electrician did things incorrectly. Kitchen tiles with glaze defects were installed and had to be removed. The job Forman did not oversee the job very well. I could go on and on. I would not use Neil Kelly again. read more

We had pool solar heating panels installed by Neil Kelly. They were problematic from the beginning. One, they didn't work. The water coming out was only a few degrees warmer than the input water. There were multiple leaks in the system when we first turned it on, so we were instructed us to turn it on only half power (rather than Neil Kelly replacing the faulty two panels). The water was not heating and most of our pool was leaking out of the panels with leaks. NK told us that it was necessary to replace all of our underground pipe with larger diameter pipe. Finally, my husband, a nuclear engineer, calculated the flow rate and figured out the pressure was too high to heat the water. He also got up on the roof and plugged the leaks. Those fixes helped us get more heating out of the system. Neil Kelly never came back to help. Seven years later, the leaks were so severe that the panels could not be fixed any longer. Our contract has a 12 year warranty on the panels, but I have never been able to get help despite multiple calls and emails. I was only offered the option of paying for repairs. Additionally, there was a huge algae bloom in our pool when we first turned the system on. Our contractor thought it got gunked up because it wasn't flushed before turning on. Overall, a very disappointing experience. read more

Solar installation was fine on our townhouse in Reed's Crossing in Hillsboro. It took longer than they projected to get started, but overall, we are pleased with our project and impact on our electrical bill this summer. However, one factor they have not followed through on is referral fees. Our neighbor after seeing our installation decided to use Neil Kelly. We had been told that we'd get a payment if we referred someone. Their project has been completed and paid for coming on two months now and no payment. The neighbor has told me that they did tell Neil Kelly that I had referred them. This seems to be in line with some of the other reviews that they are having problems with follow through. read more

My fiance and I found them nice to work with when we initially paid the $5000 retainer, but as soon as we showed some hesitation to their remodel quote, which was significantly higher than we were lead to believe, they stopped responding to emails. I asked for an itemized quote to help make sense of the large number they threw at us, but I still have not received that after nearly 3 months. Additionally, to no avail, I requested access to the assets they produced, like the floor plan and renderings, so I could look it over with other professionals to ensure I am making an informed decision on a $600,000 partial remodel of 1300sqf home. We intended to look over the assets and itemized quote to scale it back to something closer to our budget, but because of their utter lack of communication, we will not be working with them any further. Horrible doesn't even capture our experience. I honestly have no clue how they can even defend their incompetence but they do! Even when we provided all facts, they blamed everyone but their own people. I kid you not, if they had a dog to blame, they would have said the dog did it or didn't do it. What we thought was a simple bathroom build, turned into months of delays. We like others we see just walked away and forfeited our not so small deposit and their team tried to charge us beyond our deposit for work they didn't even start or scope. Do not work with this company. I was interested in installing solar in my home with them. Initially it was a great experience, Dave was professional and communicative, but as soon as they had my deposit the delays started. Nothing was accomplished or moved forward with the project without me contacting them multiple times over several weeks and ultimately threatening to end the job. It took 3 months for them to determine that solar actually couldn't be installed without another $20k roof retrofit. I understand unexpected costs happen but each step took much longer than I was told to expect without any communication about what was happening. We decided not to move forward with the project weeks ago and despite multiple emails, calls, and texts I have still not received the refund of my deposit and nobody will call me back. BEWARE PLEASE READ!! I wish I could leave a negative star! Neil Kelly's performance--or lack thereof--has been consistently poor and ridiculous, which led to this Yelp posting. On March 6, we reached out to see if Neil Kelly could support our job in rebuilding our home damaged by the January storms. We made it abundantly clear that this was an insurance rebuild, and we wanted to hire a team that would allow us to avoid managing the project--one with a reputation for excellence and the skills required to work with an insurance company rebuild. Today is Tuesday, October 29; it has been almost nine months since we engaged Neil Kelly, and our project has slipped to December. Neil Kelly's most recent activity was the May completion of an overly expensive demolition. It took over five months to receive design renderings and pricing. The summer was filled with poor communication and missed commitments. A myriad of mistakes were made in almost all components related to our scope of work, which was filled with errors. We had to find and ask for corrections, doing nearly all the heavy lifting and verification. To add insult to injury, the work done to build the exterior staircase/handrail was shoddy, as the rail fell off when a person weighing 145 pounds used it to access the area. (We paid $9,000+ for this simple, rough stair structure. You can't make this up!) Michael Johnson (lead design PM) has ghosted us on too many occasions to list and failed to provide our insurance company with the requested documentation promptly and accurately. In total, Michael spoke with our adjuster twice. On March 7, Michael stood in our home, promising us that "he had our back." At every turn in the last eight months, we had to chase Neil Kelly for updates, especially on the design side, which falls under Michael and his boss, Jenn Harbick. We had to send emails, phone calls, and text messages asking for updates on when we should expect our drawings, etc. It took five months to get the renderings we were told we would have by the end of April. And we found multiple mistakes! The design team never offered to accompany us when we met with hardware suppliers for faucets, sinks, tubs, etc. Plus, NK's team needed help pulling the correct information after we identified the hardware. Neil Kelly constantly made us adjust our calendars to accommodate them. The lack of simple follow-up, meeting commitments, and communication was staggering and unacceptable. After paying the deposit to start Phase 1 of 2 of our build-back (i.e., June!), we recently received an email from NK after having to reach out again for an update, indicating that our job might begin in December as they are spread thin! We called the city, and no permits have been pulled; none of the vendors (except one) were contacted, so we asked for our deposit back to cancel the project. Ironically, it was one of the first times their response was prompt! We were offered an insulting amount without explaining why it could not be returned; my name was even spelled wrong on the document they wanted us to sign! They have done nothing to start our reconstruction, and keeping our entire deposit is mind-boggling. We now face financial hardship as Neil Kelly refuses to refund us our dollars and has not done any work, and the work we have paid for has failed. It is like a bad movie. Coming to Yelp and reading about individuals having almost the exact experience is heartbreaking. No one should work with a company that lacks the integrity to apologize to its clients. Instead, we received emails and calls indicating that "we" were the problem or they were too busy with other clients at every step over the last five months. Neil Kelly has lost its way. read more

We have had the worst experience and this company does not deserve the reputation that it has today. After months of waiting for promised designs, being told our project was going to start, asking for constant updates as their design team kept slipping their delivery date. Then to be meet with emails that were condescending an at times so filled with errors I thought that they were not even sure who or what project they were emailing us about. Finally after 5 months of delays we contacted another contractor who was able to take what little we had received, and start before NK even contacted us with when they could start, even though we had given NK a hefty deposit, when we noticed that all the work seemed to be delayed and ultimately if we didn't ask for an update, we just heard nothing. Weeks, turned into months. When we asked for our hefty deposit back, NK said no. We paid over 8K for designs outside of the deposit to start the project. We asked for a line by line accounting of what was done for the deposit, they refused to even provide that, what company refuses to give you and accounting of what dollars they've done towards your project? I believe they prey on individuals who have bought into the local reputation of being the outstanding company they once were or others are embarrassed that they had been taken advantage of and blamed themselves for being gullible as we did. I want others to know, if this is your experience, you are not alone. Write a review, call the Contractors Board the more people do the more others will not be taken advantage of. read more

I have had the worst experience with Neil Kelly. I started my addition on my garage in November 2020 and they still have not completed the project. Our original project manager quit and the construction manager got fired all in one week. Neil Kelly then tried to repair the damages that those employees had done. Things were done without permits, they had to redo the walls of my garage which weren't even in the original scope of work. The worst is that they dug 11 foot trenches digging up my grass all along the side of my house to connect the water line. The excess water from the digging caused concrete issues in my driveway and they refused to repair the grass that they destroyed leaving my yard a mud pit. It has taken countless hours to get in contact with anyone to give us a punch list and I don't know if my project wi ever be completed because they have lied to me about deadlines so often. They are a nightmare to work with and I would NEVER use them again. Highly recommend you avoid this company at all costs. They will destroy your home. read more

Janel Campbell and Dan Moore, my Neil Kelly team are like old friends. They have done a number of projects for me and I can't say enough. I keep telling them I am done spending money and a few years go by and there I am on something new. My latest project was to update my kitchen counter, backsplash and kitchen accessories. As always, I am so pleased with outcome. Like everyone going through the deconstruction mode is a pain but the outcome is always worth it. I contacted Neil Kelly in July of 2021 for a bid on a custom wall-mounted 2x4' kitchen cabinet. Seven months and two consultants later (yes, it took that long to get a quote) I finally got a bid of $3,500 for the cabinet. What a joke. I try to support local businesses when I do home repairs and updates but Neil Kelly's lack of professionalism coupled with their outrageous prices renders them a total waste of time. "Disappointing" doesn't begin to cover my Neil Kelly experience. We contacted Neil Kelly a month ago for work on our house, including sending photos of the required work. Their handyman, Ryan McClune, contacted us and made an appointment for about 10 days out to view the house and look more closely at the work. He originally thought he could do the work in half a day, but after looking at the job he decided it would be more like three days. OK, that's a big difference, but we need the work done, so we went ahead and scheduled the work for what would be one month since the initial contact. Today was our scheduled start of work, but no one showed up or called. I called Neil Kelly , and the scheduler apologized and said that Ryan should have contacted us to say that he wasn't able to do the work this week, he had to consult with one of their specialists, and maybe could do the work next week. That's pretty flaky, but it gets worse: Ryan actually showed up late today to say, sorry, not going to do the work, period. So we've wasted an entire month waiting for Neil Kelly to get their finger out, and now we have to find another contractor. What a clown show. Neil Kelly, you suck. read more

I have a detached small studio that Neil Kelly remodeled to have a bathroom. The work was complete by early 2019. The design and build process was fairly smooth, although I found the project manager, Brian, to be brusque and condescending at times. I use the space as an Airbnb and I am happy with how it looks. HOWEVER, I would not use Neil Kelly again for any projects for the following reasons. The two people I found most helpful (the design consultants) are no longer with the company and my impression is that there is a good deal of turnover. While applying for a permit to operate the Airbnb I discovered that Neil Kelly did not get the correct permit to allow me to get this permit so I had to go through a lengthy and confusing (during Covid) process to amend the permit. When I contacted the NK office, it was made clear that they would not help. Now I know that I should have had language in the contract requiring that they get a permit for a bedroom and not just an "art studio." More problematic is my recent discovery that the wrong vents were used on the roof. The bathroom vent recently began leaking because the sealant is failing attaching two vents to the roof, which is PVC. The vents used are not the right kind for this roof. So now I have the additional hassle and expense of repairing it. This is not quality work by a "premier" company as they call themselves. read more

We had met with Tessa Isett for an initial consolation on our remodel project and are very disappointed in her followup. Not only did WE have to contact her to get the estimate, more than a week after our meeting, we again have not heard back from her after requesting some additional prices on the project. If it take this long to get a response to questions why would we trust that the project would be done in a timely manner. Therefore we have chosen another contractor to work on our remodel. We were interested in having our kitchen and bathroom remodeled and asked them to come to place a bid. Spent an hour with them in the home and detailed what we wanted. After a week, we were called and told that it would cost $500 to get a bid. This is really frustrating as we took time out of our work schedules to make this work. Nathan who worked on our unit has been the most responsive and positive professional I've ever hired for repair work. Estimates mean nothing at the end of the day. I expected the estimate to be the possible ranges of fees. By the time the job finally finished it was 35% over the high-end of the estimate. The work and (subcontractors) people were nice and competent - that's why I didn't give one star. The timing was a bit longer than planned. Recommend putting in "not to exceed X" so you know when they are over budget. Not worth a lien on my house or else I would have fought it more. read more

I had what I thought was going to be a simple bathroom remodel. I contacted Neil Kelly and everything was fine initially. They said that they would likely be able to start within a five months and the project would take a couple of weeks max. I had a number of things I wanted done but I told them from the start I was flexible on anything that would cause a significant delay. Mostly just wanted something new. I just reviewed my emails. Our first meeting was in December. We met in January for them to show me preliminary design which looked great. We started going back and forth about colors and such. Then I got an email from the designer saying that she was leaving the company. No big deal - or at least so I thought. They bring in a new designer who tells me that he didn't like what the first designer did and wanted to do things differently. This already made me nervous. I went to them because I don't have any sense for this sort of thing and when you give me two different designers saying to different things about what will look best it makes me wonder who's right? This wasn't the biggest deal. In March they reach out to the condo board for some information on how things were constructed. I didn't think much of it at the time. There were a few weeks where they went back and forth because our management company wasn't communicating well. When they finally told me what they were looking for I got them a floor diagram I was able to get off our community website and that ended up having the information they were looking for. Turns out there were fire wall between our units, which in talking to people should have been assumed. Our building was constructed in 2004 and it only makes sense that they would have fire walls between units. Her excuse was she was hoping that they weren't fire walls because this would mean they might not need building permits. Then she asks me to meet a contractor from the cabinet company so he can take some measurements. He comes by with the drawing that they sent him and tells me that they don't make sense. He doesn't know how their drawings fit with my bathrooms. So after he leaves I call the project manager and she tells me that they decided to use a different cabinet maker after all. I pointed out to her it would have been good if she had told me prior to me taking time off from work. She didn't have a good explanation for why we couldn't have canceled that appointment. At about the same time she tells me that their designer has had two meetings with people in the Portland permit office where he was told we would definitely need a building permit and that this would add five months to the project. I asked her why they didn't start the process for getting a permit earlier. Back in December we knew the scope of the project and I could have gotten the information they needed about the fire walls then if they asked me for it. Instead it was the end of March that we found out we would be needing the building permits. Or rather the end of March they they told me we would be needing the building permits. I called the city permit office myself and asked about this. They said as long as we weren't tearing down the walls we wouldn't need a building permit - only a plumbing and electrical permit which is much simpler. On top of that he made a point of telling me that as long as the contractor is responsive to the city permit office a building permit from the city of Portland only takes 2-4 weeks. Don't know how accurate this last part is but I'm convinced that I didn't need a permit at all. In the end I decided it would be best if I just forfeited my deposit. I made a point of emailing them all my concerns and asking for my deposit back but of course they opted to keep. Complete waste of time and money but in the end I'm glad I didn't go forward with working with them. read more

Yeah, the average of 3 stars seems about right. Hired to hang a porch swing from kind of a tricky ceiling. Scheduling was smooth and the guy came out and got it done nicely. However it took longer than estimated with no real good explanation why. Was billed 9 hours on a 4-8 hour estimate. Im not a foreman but it didnt look to me like there was much urgency to bring the project in on time, or any communication after the fact why it wasnt. Meh. read more

Don't waste your time or money dealing with this unprofessional and incompetent business. I called Neil Kelly to get some work done on my house to complete a project that was abandoned by a completely unethical former employee of theirs. I explained in detail my situation to several people every time I had contact with Neil Kelly staff: Janell, who referred me to the handyman team, Jenn Harbick: whose voicemail I believe my initial inquiry was sent to, then Irie Searcy who finally called to schedule with me weeks later. Irie brought several people to my home to scope out the job, and create an estimate. She was also told in detail about our former contractor and exactly what was needed, via email prior to the meeting, and in person at the meeting. Every single person we dealt with at Neil Kelly was told what the issue was and why we needed this work done. Irie said she would get us an estimate the following week, and even offered to sell us a more detailed estimate for litigation purposes, should we need it. We provided requested information on materials and everything that Neil Kelly requested. Weeks went by and my husband continually checked in with Irie. Each time he was assured an estimate was forthcoming. Then nearly TWO MONTHS after the in person visit, Irie emailed to say they could not bid on a project that was "under litigation". (The project is NOT the subject of litigation.) I went to the Neil Kelly office and explained the entire situation to Jenn Harbick, who supervises Irie in some fashion. She seemed helpful, assured me that what Irie told me was wrong and criticized both the delay and the delivery of the bad news via email, noting that Irie is a "milllenial" in her criticism. She said she'd discuss with others but didn't see a reason why they couldn't give me a bid. I explained that, given the time Neil Kelly had already wasted, they at least should give us an estimate which would be somewhat useful- even if they did not want to do the job. She seemed agreeable to this. By this point, you probably know where the story is going. Jenn failed to get back to me in the time period she said she would- later responding to my email and forwarding me an email from her superior recommending they not "get involved" in my project, but also including several aspects of the job they would be willing to do. I again brought up how my family has expended significant time relying on what Neil Kelly staff had said, and I felt they should estimate the whole job. Not only did she refuse to do that, but she refused to give us an estimate for the aspects of the project that she'd told me they could do. In my workplace, our motto is "do the right thing for the right reason". Neil Kelly clearly does not believe in this. When working with a contractor, ethics and integrity are the most important qualities. You will not find them at Neil Kelly. read more

This company remodeled my kitchen more than 15 years ago, and I regret it to this day. I should have shopped around more. They are extremely overpriced, and I ended up doing a lot of the work myself and having to outsource the counter top and tile work to other companies. There's another word that always comes to mind when I think of Neil Kelly: arrogant. I'm still disappointed. If you're thinking of using Neil Kelly, I would recommend that you get bids from other reputable companies. I still feel ripped off, but it's no one's fault but my own. Neil Kelly is not the lowest cost contractor, but we went with them because we wanted our remodel to be hassle free, and didn't want to be surprised by low quality materials. True to their reputation, everything went off without a hitch. The materials and more importantly, skills of the labor was top notch. I was particularly pleased by Beckett, the carpenter who was on site for three months. Not only was her work excellent, but she was also pleasant to be around, which is a big deal when someone is in your house for three months. Stay far, far away.... If you should choose to use them, make sure everything is detailed exactly as to what they will do. They have a bad habit of saying they will do everything and never follow through. We had an Oregon Clean Energy loan (a state sponsored low cost loan program), they were assigned to us by the agency. At first it sounded great, they said they were going to do this and that and it only turned out to be partly correct. Examples; Our gas furnace and water heater were going to be replaced, and they are located in a small room in the basement, the had to tear out the ceiling and part of walls etc. to remove the old systems and they said all the walls and ceiling would be re-sheetrocked and plastered. In the contract it read as removal of old systems and update of new systems. However, it never said sheetrocking and they refused to do it, unless we wanted to cough up another $1000.00 dollars. item, after item, after item was treated like this. We have 6 cats, and a cat door with a ramp was supposed to be put in. It never happened, You cannot believe the hassle we had with these people. It ended up taking nearly 4 months to complete the project, they originally stated 4 to 7 days. It was a nightmare, emails back and forth, they were always telling us yes, yes, yes these items will be done. But they never happened,, It was the $24,000.00 dollar nightmare job.from hell, with never ending lies and deceit.. I hope we can spare someone else the frustration we had. They are sweet talkers, just don't believe a word they say. We are reporting them to State attorney's office, BBB, home owners assoc., etc. not a very honorable company to deal with. Well this company is just a nightmare to work with. We though we were rid of them two years ago after a positively grueling six month project (six of those superfun weeks being an unannounced blackout period of no one showing up to make progress on our project and not being able to get a call back), but alas, they are in our lives again because the work they did during that project failed. The most generous thing I can say about this group is at least they offer a five year warranty on the shoddy work they do. So they can come back and do it again two years later! Or, say they're going to come back, anyway. We're still waiting on a shower that works. read more

We hired Neil Kelly to insulate our home and we couldn't be happier with the results. They were really straightforward and realistic when walking us through the initial estimate and helped us choose the items and services that would give us the best bang for our buck. Our Home Energy Loan has very reasonable monthly payments and our house is a much cozier home now. We have a 3 year old and when they removed the debris and old fiberglass insulation, they were careful to keep the dust contained and did a great job cleaning up. We have a two-story 1908 craftsman that was so drafty we might as well have lived outdoors. Now our house holds heat so much better, when we get back home after being gone a few hours, I worry that I've left the heater on. What I was most impressed with was their high level of professionalism when it came to communication. We were given solid details all along the way about what steps were next and how long things would take. Their time estimate was spot on. They were friendly and honest and for that reason, we'd hire them again in a heartbeat. read more

They did a quick installation of a new furnace (went from oil to gas) and a couple of other Energy Audit recommendations for me last January 2016. Though they were more a few bucks more than the cheapest quotes I got, I felt that it was well worth it. Not only did they take the time to explain why they needed to make some changes to their plans, nothing like a 90 year old house to have surprises, but last month when the bathroom fan they installed stopped working they had a person out by the end of the week to take care of it. I'm terrible at providing reviews, but the quick follow-up by Mike and his team to stand behind the equipment and installation really impressed me. read more

The Neil Kelly company did a complete remodel on our entire kitchen, 1st floor bathroom, and the unused space between them. Everything was taken down to the studs and rebuilt. In addition we removed an old chimney from the basement through 2 stories and the attic; added a laundry chute and floor space where the chimney used to be; reframed a small opening to enlarge the kitchen by 6 ft (complex reframing of load bearing walls); reframed the floor on the entire back section of the house; put in a new water line from the street to the house; and put in a new 95% efficiency furnace. The job included everything you could imagine: demo, framing, all new electrical in the remodeled area, new plumbing (including through the basement and they ran new plumbing to the 2nd floor bathroom which sits above the kitchen), a new ceiling, insulation, drywall, custom cabinets, countertops, electrical and plumbing fixtures. Also we added a new back door and a new window. Joel Fraley was our designer and Paul Louis was the project manager. Both Joel and Paul were wonderful to work with. They were professional, responsive, and really know what they are doing. Joel worked with us for months before we finalized the design. Before the work began, Paul developed a timeline of everything that would happen. All the subcontractors were coordinated beautifully and we were completely on schedule until we hit one glitch, the wrong tile was delivered. Paul then moved people around so that we didn't have to wait for the tile to arrive before we could proceed, and the final delay was quite short. There were a couple of things that could have been done better. For example, when the cabinets arrived, no one checked their dimensions against the plans before they were installed. A couple cabinets were the wrong size. But to their credit (I was seriously impressed) they had the cabinets pulled out and the replacement ones came quickly. There were a few other examples of missteps like this, however in every case Joel & Paul willingly fixed the problem. Oh, and another great thing is that they did quite a bit of work that we found along the way without charging extra. For example, they added a new faucet to my basement laundry sink and new shut-off valves to the washing machine. They even helped us to install the Ikea cabinets that we bought for the new office area (this was not ever in the contract as we weren't sure what we were going to do with the space when the project got started) for free. This was a BIG deal as we realized when working with the man who was helping us. We could NOT have done it correctly if he hadn't been there. I would definitely describe myself as detail oriented and I had a lot of interaction with Joel and Paul throughout this process (I'm not a sit back and let them just do their job type person) and I can absolutely recommend them, and Neil Kelly, based on this remodel. read more

We were mtched with them as our contractor through the Clean Energy Works of Oregon program. What a nightmare. The only upside is that I caught them in their web of mismanagement and lies before they tore my house apart. When we signed the contract in May, we were told that the work would be scheduled to begin in June. In June the project manager told me (via email) that she could not meet until June 20th but we would be on the schedule in July. She shows up for the June 20th meeting an hour late, leaves 10 minutes to talk to me. Now she tells me we would be lucky to schedule for August and we need to be completely out of the home for a minimum of 3 days. I asked the sales person in April if we could remain in the home and he said yes. She nows says it is not safe. She also lied about aspects of the process and the project. Run away from them as fast as you can. Their radio ads about integrity and service are a joke. If they focused on those things they would not need to spend so much time and money promoting themselves. read more

To my knowledge there were never any "issues" with the electrical work to be done, prior to the bid or during the actual work completed. My "issue" was the cost associated with the job, charging us approximately $250 an hour plus 40% when average electrician rates are $125-$150 an hour. I'm curious if you backed into the hourly rate to help match the original quote or just found the most expensive electrician there is knowing you could just lass it along. read more

Handyman was nice and personable but I felt totally ripped off. It took him 4 HOURS to hang a few small pieces of art, put some hooks in the wall/ceiling, put up a mirror and a towel rack. At $85/hr. Luckily he only ended up charging me for 3 hours but he seriously took his sweet time at my house. Maybe it was just the guy but if he is representing this company I would not recommend for small projects. And he also gave me an estimate on installing ceiling fans from the electrician that works with him at his company (I believe) - $1200 for 2 fans. Good thing I got that done elsewhere- $330 in and out in less than 2 hours. read more

Neil Kelly just finished a $30,000 upgrade to my very old house and my husband and I couldn't be any happier! I originally called up Enhabit to have them take a look at my house for earthquake safety. Enhabit is a third-party nonprofit that offers free Home Performance Checks for energy efficiency, and health/safety. Enhabit sent out Troy Zdzieblowski to complete the first inspection--I highly recommend working with him! Troy is extremely knowledgable, professional, and passionate about what he does. When it turned out that nothing could be done to help my house in a severe earthquake (it has a brick foundation), we decided to schedule a second inspection where they could look at energy performance upgrades. My house is really old, and had an antiquated furnace, outdated water heater, single-pane windows, and an abundance of uninsulated walls. After the second walk through, the team created a detailed plan of improvements for our house. The plan included a computer-generated model of our house that showed which areas were missing insulation-that was shocking to see! They also had the complete list of upgrades which included the contractor work, brand names of new appliances/windows, and cost. I was so impressed with the thoroughness and professionalism shown through the carefully constructed plan, and how it was communicated to us. Troy was great with explaining the plan so that it made sense, and was completely upfront and honest about everything. He answered all of our questions, and stayed as long as we needed him--he wasn't in a rush to leave at all. After taking a week to read through the plan and the contract, we signed on. They helped us get a low-interest HELOC through Umpqua bank and we were able to set a payment that worked within our budget. The actual construction went quickly and smoothly. The contractors were professional, and really nice. Mike Gilbert, our project manager, was fantastic. He communicated with us in a timely manner, and we were able to reach out to him when we needed to. We just had our final walk through last week, where a third party inspects completed upgrades. The team was impressed with the results, and had data to prove that our house was more air-tight than before. Personally, I feel like the project was a really great deal for $30,000. The amount of work they did, including replacing giant windows, installing CO2 detectors, disassembling and replacing an ancient furnace, creating trim for the living room, installing a Nest thermostat....the list goes on! We are so much more comfortable in our house now, and we're really enjoying our new windows. Our house is now insulated and keeps warm, which makes us happier to be hanging out at home. Called Neil Kelly handyman services about a leaking shower drain. Howard came over and did his evaluation. It started as repairing leaky shower and ended up as a complete remodel of two bathrooms. He did an amazing job! He is very thorough and honest. Cannot say enough good things about him! My sister is waiting for NK to do some work in their house. Their handyman services are way overpriced. The handyman I hired changed a bathroom light fixture, installed a dock cleat, secured a cabinet that was starting to come loose, and replaced two gutter nails with gutter screws. It took him about three hours and they charged me over $500. He spent most of the time talking about how things couldn't be done and didn't have most of the tools he needed, so he borrowed mine. read more

I want to commend Neil Kelly for the lengths they go to protect the homeowner, and their employees, from COVID-19 and other viruses. They are one of the very few companies deemed an essential service that takes their employees use of PPE, gloves and disinfectant seriously. And I am thankful. It made me feel comfortable having a contractor in my house. Marcus came to my home yesterday to do a simple electrical job. He wore a mask and gloves at all times, and had wipes and a bottle of Lysol with him. He wiped down everything he touched with Lysol after he finished the work. Even the last door handle he touched. What was quoted to me as a $3,000, 3-day job ended up being $11K+ and taking more than a month. I felt like they had me over a barrel. I wasn't told until mid-job that they'd used up their allotted work hours and I would need to pay more if I wanted the job complete. I ended up having to redo some of the work too. I will never use or recommend this company again. read more
