If you are in search of a Nepalese/Indian restaurant that embodies Eastern ambience, then look no…read morefurther. Kathmandu, opposite Colston Hall, offers diners an authentic Nepali/Indian experience. On entering the venue, your senses are immediately indulged: subtle aromas of burning incense, infused with rich spices, create a mystical vibe, in addition to the warm candle light and captivating Indian art, making you feel as if you are actually in India. Run by a Nepalese family who import indigenous spices from a village in their home country, the restaurant produces a diverse range of curries. My favourite is the chicken Pasanda, a dish simply oozing with creamy, yogurty goodness and unique blends of spices. You can expect to pay more than is usual for Indian cuisine, but your experience is guaranteed to make those extra pennies seem worthwhile.

When I first walked in,…read moreI thought that the room was much bigger than it actually is, due to one of the walls consisting entirely of mirrors. They must polish these things day and night, because I was totally convinced, until I noticed one of the join lines a good few minutes later (and it wasn't just me, to note, I heard another couple say exactly the same thing as we were leaving). I must recommend the vegetable tikka massala - I know, I'm not very adventurous - but I have a policy of always judging a place by its massala. Once that test's been passed, I'm willing to come back and try something a little more exciting. I expect the staff at Kathmandu will be seeing a fair bit more of me in the coming months, then.

As you enter down the stairs to the entrance, pause and take a deep breath. As you enter in, you are greeted warmly, enveloped in warm decor, gentle Nepalese music, and a sense of someplace exotic and relaxing. There are a few rooms for dining inside and a garden patio area for enjoying the outdoors. My husband and I have never had Nepalese food before. We thought this would be an interesting taste amid our British journey. And indeed it was! The flavors were so tasty, ranging from subtle to vibrant. There were flavors I could not identify and yet wanted to continue eating because they were so unique and flavorful. I don't believe we left a crumb on our plates! And then there was the dessert. I have truly fallen in love with the flavor of the marinated oranges and yogurt that I had for dessert. I've never tasted anything like it before. I literally closed my eyes to block out all else so I could simply savor the delicate flavors. What a treat! When back home, I am definitely going to see if I can find a Nepalese restaurant to enjoy, but doubt it can replicate the deliciousness of this dining experience.

We got there 15 minutes before opening, and the owner let us in anyway, seated us, and left us with menus. It's veru bright and clean with Himalayan/Nepalese art and artifacts on the walls. They played Nepalese music softly in the background. We each ordered the house dish: I got chicken and my husband got beef. You can choose mild, medium, hot, or very hot spices. We got medium and it was perfect. My husband had ale, and I had a limeade that is offered to thirsty pilgrims. Delicious! We would definitely recommend it!

You get locals coming in for a pint at the bar which is decorated with machetes. And families coming in for food. They also cater to large groups if you give them warning. There is a good numbers of options in terms of both food and drink. I recommend the gurka special as a starter to share between 2 or 3. It's a selection of spiced meat and veg on a sizzler. For main there is a good number of options and you can choose your own heat (all options are pretty mild in my books). The naans are really good, especially the peshwari ones. No idea what the puddings are like, if you are still hungry at this point I reckon you've made a mistake with your order!!! Drinks wise, you can't go wrong with a Stowford Press Definitely recommend this place. But remember to book earlier in the week if you want to eat there at the weekend. It gets busy.

Staff are very friendly and keep asking if everything is ok. The price was about a hundred pounds for 4 of us so wasn't cheap. The pub itself is worth popping in to for a drink as it is a country type with open fire. It is located just off junction 3 of the M50 motorway and so is a good place to stop rather than using motorway services

The food is very good, as is the service. They treat you like royalty here which I like! Service was a little slow, but nothing really to complain about. It's not the best resturant you'll ever go to, but maybe worth a trip if you like very traditional Indian cooking.

That means no rice, no popadoms, no naan bread, and for all I know no curry either. If I'm on a cheat day though (and let's face it I often am) and deserve a special treat then this is high on my list of targets on the takeaway nirvana that is Gloucester Rd. The Natraj is certainly a well established restaurant as I'm pretty sure it was here when I moved to Bristol in the early 80s. Curries are not quite as popular as they were back then from what I can see, but the Natraj keeps on keeping on with its range of traditional Indian dishes. My current favourite is the butter chicken with boiled rice, with a naan and some cucumber raita unadventurous I know but delicious. Plus it's licensed, so you can enjoy a quick pint of Kingfisher and a scan of the Sun while you're waiting. The atmos is authentic old-school Indian restaurant, and the staff are helpful and friendly. Spot on!
