I was craving Indian food and googled this place. Not too far of a walk, and conveniently located. Service was good, and luckily it was crowded at all. Since it was the weekend, it was a buffet style. I felt that the food was a little too oily for my taste, and was kind of disappointed there weren't a lot of options. I had the mushroom and vegetable pakoras, daal, jalfreze, and the rice and after I had finished eating the oil basically covered a layer of my plate. The daal was definitely the best food, though, very flavorful and the food was decently spicy. The service could have been better, I had to wait for them to walk by even though it was basically empty just to get water. I give this place four stars because I was told as I was about to leave about how accommodating they can be in terms of spice level and making what you want, as well as they give a 10% to oxford students in the evenings! We came for the buffet lunch, and we were not disappointed. Although there weren't an excess of options (there were eight dishes to pick from, not including the salad and naan), every dish was delicious, and you could taste the quality of the ingredients. They were fresh, and very well made. Perfectly spiced and retaining all the right textures (there's nothing worse than soggy naan or droopy cauliflower pakora), it gave us a lovely, filling meal. The restaurant itself is classy, and although the ambiance is casual, you can easily come here for a high-class romantic dinner or business meeting. The staff was friendly, and although the drinks took a while to come, they came with a helpful and smiling waiter. There's a paid parking lot right across the street, so we had no issues parking, even in the middle of Oxford. In short, an excellent place for Indian food. I'd come back. read more

Whoa....4,500 miles is right! I sure went a long way to try this Indian Restaurant! I believe it was a 10 hour flight! We ordered several different dishes off the menu and all were really good...except for the spinach which was super salty. We talked to the management about the spinach and they were understanding and brought out a new serving. This serving, however, was also super salty! Overall, the service here is OK. We did have to ask for refills on our water. I love this town and did enjoy this restaurant. With so many Indian restaurants near me, I have pretty high standards and this restaurant was pretty good. Would I come back? Maybe. Maybe after I tried all the other restaurants in the town first. So many good places to eat and this is definitely one to put on your list. I am a fan! read more

Located closer to the train station than the center of town means that 4500 Miles from Dehli has two things going for it besides the excellent cuisine--parking is easier and you have a better chance of getting a table, which is terrific because most of the in-the-center-of-town places don't have enough room. The food here is traditional and delicious--very spicy and appealing. A full bar compliments the good food and service. The staff is exceptional. The manager Kapil will come to your table and talk about the legacy of the food, travel to the sub-continent or any subject you wish. Came here for buffet lunch today- all you can eat for £7.95. 6 different types of starters, 6 curries (3 veggies, yum!) unlimited pompadoms, rice and fresh naan (they bring it to the table!)- they were all pretty good. We had an extra order of the malai kofka, which is my favorite- it is so good, no other cheesy- Indian curry product anywhere quite compares. Delicious - Indian food in the UK is just such a better dining experience than it is in the States or continental Europe (on average). And they don't dumb down the spice level like they do everywhere else. Came here for dinner - with Naan, rice, two curries, and two desserts, it came to around 32 pounds. This is probably the only genuine Indian restaurant in Oxford, and you really taste the difference. The food is good and tasty, and they don't serve you cheap stuff. The best time to go is for lunch, because they offer an incredible bargain: lunch buffet (all you can eat) for only 7.95. That's a fantastic deal, given both the quality & diversity of the food and the venue. The interior is nice and comfortable, very modern and - most important - clean. I recommend you try 4500. I tried what everyone told me was the best Indian restaurant in Oxford and I did not enjoy it much more than 4500 Miles from Delhi. Most people I met said 4500 had gone downhill after new management or a new chef, but the staff was professional, personable and knowledgeable. I admit I told them what I wanted even though it was not exactly on their menu and got it - was it perfect - no, but it was reasonably priced and very good. I find that commonly Indian restaurants will not fix something northern, southern, Punjabi etc... Even though they have the spices, veggies etc... They made a slight modification to my request and we all got what we wanted. I cannot ask much better than that. When I return to Oxford I look forward to trying 4500 again. read more

I am absolutely in love with the food here! Everything they make has an incredible depth of flavor, from the Dal Makhani (buttery, acidic, spicy, delicious!!) to the coconut rice (sweet, loaded with coconut) to the raita (perfect cooling agent for spicy food and a generous portion to boot) to the Bagaray Baingan (my favorite! Surprising and incredible addition of peanut butter!) to nutty and crusty roti to flavorful, umami vegetarian dosa. I eat Indian food pretty much once a week no matter where I am in the world--I adore the spice combinations and abundant vegan/vegetarian options--so please take my word when I say that this might be the BEST INDIAN FOOD I'VE EVER HAD! Loved this place. Very cool wood based decor (finally, an Indian restaurant that isn't a slave to the white tablecloths and classical art that every other spot thinks is the most unique decoration). That same sensibility extends to the menu design, which is interesting and clever and, again, doesn't fall into classic Indian restaurant tropes. More importantly, the food was GOOD. Excellent chili paneer shashlik appetizer, beautifully plated with very bright colors. Even more brilliant dal makhani. Ah! It was so filling! So tasty! I heartily approve. I ordered a whiskey top cocktail, which I thought was a bit over-sweet. Putting straws in it seemed like an odd touch. These should be sipped, not sucked. Ended up here for a Christmas dinner! I had to try the curried turkey with cranberry. The waiter explained with a wink that it was a very old traditional Indian dish. Well anyway it tasted fine to me.......but after that much beer maybe anything would. The restaurant was very busy, but the service was still good. If you have a Taste Card you can get 50% off all dishes which makes it a wonderful deal. My wife and I have tried a lot of dishes and every one has been great. Just Okay north Indian food. I'm biased as I come from a city with a ton of Indian expats and lots of great (mostly north but some south ) Indian restaurants. We ordered mattar paneer, dal makhani, basmati rice , naan, and chai. The mattar paneer was good but the dal makhani was too creamy buttery and tasted of ketchup- it was more like butter chicken sauce on dal instead of what I'm used to (i.e. Rajma and black dal with a bit of cream stirred in). Pro tip: it's a bit spicy so if you can't do spicy ask to reduce the spice when you order. The basmati rice was small, order one per person. read more

I had heard some good things about this place and checked it out here too. Perhaps I was expecting too much because it was compared in these reviews favorably to other curry houses in Oxford, and around the Cowley Road it has some pretty stiff competition. Sadly the comparison doesn't hold up to scrutiny. We were in on a Saturday evening and the place was packed, which was promising, and i was prepared to make allowances for the slow service. However it doesn't explain beer prices that are not on the menu - neither draught options (Fosters!!!) or larger bottles of Indian beers were mentioned, and we had to ask 2 waiters to find out the price. The poppadoms came with much smaller than average sauces and - shock - no lime pickle. We didn't have starters an the main courses were good, but not outstanding, partiuclarly for Oxford, which has a wealth of great Bangladeshi restaurants, and even a cracking Nepalese these days. The prices were distinctly upper end, but to be fair you expect to pay a little more to go out in town, and judging by the large parties in, this did seem a place where larger groups of people meet up. And we finished up with an extra £5 bottle of beer on the final bill, which was immediately removed when pointed out, but we had only had 8 bottles in total, so it was disappointing to see it on there. In summary 4500 Miles from Delhi is not bad, but it is also 3 miles from the Cowley Road, which is where Oxford's finest curries can still be found. read more

Excellent food, quick service and pleasant atmophere.

A cut above the other curry houses in Oxford, this has much more of a restaurant air to it. Th interior design is modern and minimal. The staff are friendly and attentive but not intrusive, which is a godsend having experienced many other curry places where the staff are keen for you to leave as soon as the last fork is put down. Prices are more expensive than the average, but it is reflected in the food. You can expect to pay about 9 pounds for a curry dish, not including the rice. The menu is varied and has a good vegetarian selection. Not somewhere to eat every week, but more for a special occasion. I will hopefully be returning very soon. read more
