My first visit to Light Years was for breakfast; a delicious and unforgettable meal it was…read more The location was off the beaten path, it took me about 15-20 minutes walk from the nearest metro. I was wondering why such a popular spot would be so isolated? But all is well worth the effort to get here. The venue is brimming with natural lighting, classic charm and warmth. For my breakfast, I ordered the Pixelated avocado (on a sourdough toast) because it just looked so darn intriguing. I didn't expect anything else to be honest, and turned out this was GOOD!! Every single element in this dish has complex flavors that compliments each other. The chili dried air kale, diced pixelated avocado and the soft shell crab was especially stunning. The dish certainly performs to its Instagram ability. For my drink, I ordered their matcha latte; it was strong tasting yet smooth. I could drink this all day! The Light Years is certainly not disappointing in any way, from the beautiful venue to the outstanding food, supported with service and ambiance for days. Easily, my favorite brunch spot in town at the moment and much to recommend you :).

Recently opened at the bottom of a new apartment block just along from the Camberwell tram depot, it should not be confused with Lights in the Attic cafe which is a bit further down Camberwell Road. The fit out is the now common scandi/minimalist affair with a smattering of potted greenery. Coffee is from Dukes, but the star of the show here is the food. All the dishes I saw coming out looked great and were good sized portions. I had the bircher and it was a generous serve, looked pretty and tasted even better. Overall a good value and tasty option for brunch/lunch in the leafy inner east.

Workshop had very quickly become one of my favourites in the south-east. Owned by brothers, I'm…read morewishing I was a part of the family so I had an excuse to drop in more. So why is this place so fantastic? Firstly, the staff here are lovely. Recently, I booked a table of 11 for a Sunday morning and they couldn't have been more pleasant or accommodating! They're happy to chat coffee tasting notes with you and they're genuinely keen to hear what you thought. I found they're constantly going exceeded your expectations, by remembering a detail from the last time you were in. The staff are also keen on social media, especially Instagram, which I believe reinforces how interested the staff are in what their customers think. Secondly, the food is A+. From the classics to the combinations (think hotcakes crossed with a doughnut), everything's been delicious. I like that the menu is broken up into meals and a something light page, so you have a reasonable idea of portion sizing when ordering. Thirdly, these boys (I'm yet to see a girl working?) know what they're doing with the coffee beans. Choosing between pourovers, single origin coffees and cold drips... My guess is you're going to be satisfied no matter what you order! Talk to the staff, let them know what you likely and they're more than happy to make a recommendation. Workshop has given the Glen Huntley area a much needed spark. It's conveniently located (almost) next to the station, which I imagine the train commuters are loving. The fit out is gorgeous, with lots of exposed brick, natural sunlight and some gorgeous lights. One last thing - cutest logo I've seen, go and see for yourself!

Perfect coffee every time. Delicious…read more Good breakfast options from your usual eggs with sides, hotcakes, Bircher and porridge. Lunch offerings are burgers, pides and the likes. But the coffee is the standout. Great spot, right next to Glenhuntly train station. X

I've been here twice so far. Once to grab a late lunch. I ordered the Buddha bowl, which was a…read moresimple bowl of greens and mashed sweet potato and avocado with some homemade tortilla chips. My sister ordered the zucchini fritters, which came with two poached eggs. They were really good, especially with their a thousand island sauce. The second time I came here was to grab a sandwich to go. I love their sourdough bread, and the sandwich had the multigrain bread. It was tomato based, so no cheese, and had grilled eggplant and mushrooms and spinach. It was very tasty, and even more so if you get it lightly toasted.

We loved the space. It's bright and airy with plenty of room to spread out. A small thing, but I loved that there is seating with decent cushions instead of hard, flat immovable surfaces. Also, whoever chose the music playlist really knows their stuff. The music playing throughout was fabulous. We were advised that there is a new menu offered here now and that the chef has over 15 years experience overall and has been in Australia 6 years. The menu looked contemporary and very interesting: we quickly selected the corn fritters and the Tunisian baked eggs. We were knocked out by the sheer quality of both dishes. It's beautiful food. The corn fritters were with smoked salmon and poached eggs. They're lovely fluffy fritters with great flavour including a fascinating hint of spice. Ditto the gorgeous baked eggs. These are the best I've ever had. The previous best were those at Jerry Joy in Thornbury but these topped those to my astonishment. They are rich and substantive again with delicate hints of spice. And, whoever decided to add the slice of lemon is a visionary too. The acidity is just beautiful with the dish. We finished with coffee and red velvet cake. Both were wonderful again. The coffees were expertly made, a real Melbourne coffee. The cake was excellent too. Lovely, tasty and moist. The perfect finish. This was an unexpectedly great meal. We loved the place, the food and the service. The world's most stunning woman and I commented to each other that this was a pretty much the near perfect brunch. Put Servery and Spoon in the inner suburbs and they'd be fighting off customers and have lines around the block. It was that good. Finally, I'm conscious that I'm giving another 5. This is another case of not having the capacity to give a half mark. A 4.5 would have been optimal, but a 4 far too low. In those circumstances, there's no option but to choose the higher mark. (Our sincere thanks to Nitin and Ritika for the invitation to visit here. Put simply, we loved it. We wish them and their venture the good fortune that it and they deserve.)

Upon entering we took in the now-popular industrial cafe style decor with painted white brick walls, repurposed tables, metal chairs and hanging pendant light bulbs and were hopeful for a satisfying meal. We were seated and served tap water from a beer-type bottle (into warm glasses) whilst looking over the menu. We noticed that unless you're ordering breakfast, there's not a whole lot to choose from. There's about 5 other options...all of which are sandwiches. Nothing really stood out to us on the menu so we settled for the fried eggs on sourdough w/ smashed avo & feta and the tuna w/ melted cheese & wasabi mayo on a toasted panini. Our drinks - a hot chocolate and double cappuccino - came out relatively quick but were rather dissatisfying. The coffee was actually terrible. Made from Coffee Supreme beans, the south blend was just horribly made, burnt, bitter and overall unpleasant. The hot chocolate was worse. There was no chocolatey goodness, it was all hot water with obviously a teaspoon of (what I'm assuming was) cheap chocolate shaved into it. Next came our food. The fried eggs were completely over cooked to the point the yolk was hard and rubbery. How hard can it be to fry an egg, seriously?! The tuna panini was ok but let's be honest, it was tuna out of a can with some melted cheese and was there even any wasabi in the mayo? Not to mention the HUGE chunks of spring onion throughout. Too bad we ate here after Halloween because I certainly would of kept the vampires at bay with my breath afterwards! The man who we suspect was either owner or manager was friendly and kind (which is why I'm giving two stars instead of one to be honest) however the waitress was not very personable or smiley. Wouldn't come here again.

And what about a poached egg? Can't forget the poached egg! Lucky my meal had it all! Even mango, my favourite fruit in the whole wide world! Only problem was... the mango was over-ripe. I know, I'm being super anal, but it just crushed me that rather than bringing the elements together, it tore them apart. I should write a song. Cry me a river, you say. It was still a good brunch. I'd come back. Next time I will also know not to order chai latte (too milky, not enough spice), considering that Little Chloe's claim to fame is their coffee! Specialty coffee and roasters. Duh, it should have been a no brainer. One thing I MUST mention, is their super cute table reservation system. I'd think it would be a hoot if they placed a laminated photo of Liam Neeson on the table instead of the scrabble letters. But hey, love the scrabble as is!
