Especially the big pool which you can use as a member is very nice and clean. The fitness facilities can be quite full - but as everywhere it depends on the time you go. The spinning courses are my personal tip... Jump on a bike and enjoy a cool workout in a dark music filled disco room. Spa treatments can be booked for an extra fee and are wonderful. The staff in all departments is very friendly. My only minus point is the high member fee of ca. £45 per month. Other than that a great place to go and a guaranteed sporty time!

I captured a very respectable rate which included breakfast. The hotel's restaurant provided excellent food quickly in a very comfortable and elegant setting. I almost forgot that I was in Birmingham. Almost. The room was very nice with everything and every amenity that I would expect from a Novotel.

The seating area is so comftorble, and theres a nice private area to the back with chairs & tables. The few times Ive come here for breakfast I had a bacon roll it was everything a bacon roll needed to be, but it was made special by being able to choose if I wanted white or brown bread, red or brown sauce? I came once in the evening when some live music was on (at the back in the outdoors part) it was really busy. A bit too busy to enjoy it properly - couldnt see the band and had to que forever for a drink. The only real complaint I have is that either they didnt have enough glass collectors working, or it was too busy for the staff to come around and collect the empty glasses - so people started leaving empty glasses everywhere and the place ended up with alot of smashed glass on the floor (and in the water feature!) But that complaint is minor, this place is one of the nicest places in Stafford.

It is an older building, so you will encounter some sloping floors in places and there isn't any AC in the rooms which was slightly problematic during the heatwave we encountered. I didn't get under the blankets once to sleep and the one meager fan in the room was expected to do quite a bit of heavy lifting to try and keep things reasonable. Loved having a pub downstairs for coffee and libation anytime of the day. I'd definitely stay again, just hopefully during a cooler spell!

We waited for some time to be checked in but the gent was friendly enough. The room itself was clean, the bed comfy and all the usual amenities like tea & coffee, hairdryer, towel heated rack, tv etc. The shower looked puny but packed a punch too! Anyway here is where it loses its stars..first the double bed was actually two singles squished together so it dipped in the middle making spooning uncomfortable..the breakfast itself didn't look to be of a high standard for the money and most annoyingly we were not made aware of any construction work. After a late Saturday night the last thing I wanted was to have industrial machinery acting as my alarm clock at 8am. When we tried to check out there was no one there to complain to so we chucked our key into the pile. Overall the room was comfy but it lacked a good service..food and the unexpected noise..

The best part was the included breakfast- on Sundays a full English breakfast is included with the price of your room and the food was all very good. You do have to do a bit of walking to get around if you don't have a car, but it is conveniently located between the University and the city center, and a relatively short walk to the five ways train station. It is also close to bus routes, and cab rides to the city center are inexpensive. I would stay here again; highly recommended.

I came with 3 bags + purse. There were two concierge outside and they saw me approaching the hotel, but they did not offer to help me. They did not greet me. Nothing. Not cool. On the way in this afternoon (one concierge different from yesterday) was at the door and he opened the door for the man behind me because he had one small suitcase. He was holding the door open for the man (not me since I didn't have any luggage)... but if this was the type of service provided for one man with a small rolling suitcase, how could they not greet me? open the door for me? I had bags falling from my hands and had to drag myself through the rotating door. I kept getting stuck in the rotating door because I had so many bags. It was quite frustrating. I'm disappointed that the concierge didn't help out. However, maybe the concierge yesterday was no good. Today, maybe he was just better. It's tough with this type of ....service business.... I guess it's a 3/5 for the concierge. I gave the 4/5 rating because the housekeepers did a beautiful job of taking care of the room. They changed my bed sheets -- it's very obvious. I left my shoes next to the ottoman, but they placed my shoes closer to the door (with care). I also had my toothbrush and other supplies just laying around in the bathroom, but they tidied the bathroom for me. I really appreciated it. They did a fantastic job with the room. Very pleased. I believe my luggage/concierge is probably a one-off, so I can't bang this hotel too much for that one experience. Just thought I'd share ... but it's really no different from some other place. Sometimes, it's just a hit or miss. AMENITIES: Bathroom is nice. Not the most fancy, but definitely have no complaints. It's clean and well maintained. No complaints here. Nicer than the average bathroom. INTERNET: No free internet. For 1 hour, it's 5 GBP. For 24 hours, it's 15 GBP. I'm from the States and am used to having free wi-fi when I'm at a hotel, so it's not very ideal.... TV CHANNELS: Theres only 20 channels + 5 music channels (total of 25). Again, I'm not sure what the standard is here in the UK, but I'm from the States and am used to having many options (50 channels) with plenty of things to watch. Unfortunately, with the limited choices, there's not much to watch on tv. Sooo, if you're too cheap to pay for internet and can't find anything on TV, there's really nothing to do while here. All in all, nice hotel. I would come back again. I will have to deal with the tv channels and paying for the internet - unfortunately.

Breakfast Review: I…read morehad a breakfast meeting this morning and couldn't believe my luck when my colleague suggested Hotel du Vin - a venue that I hadn't considered for breakfast before? Breakfast was great, service was excellent and very prompt. Coffee was good too. At £16.95, its the most expensive I have eaten in Birmingham - but this does come with access to the pastries and cereals too - so its still expensive though, compared to others locally. Breakfast consists of eggs, (I had 2 perfectly poached ones), 2 bacon, a flat mushroom, half a tomato, black pudding, (not great - a bit crumbly) and a tiny sausage. Its a shame about the sausage - it should have been bigger or another should have been added to the breakfast. Would I go back? Possibly. There is some great competition in Birmingham
