Disappointed - this is the 2nd time in a row we've had hair in our food. Not much more to say - we politely told them and paid for our meal last time and this time. We gave feedback both times too. We didn't ask for any discounts - we feel like we know these folks and we like them - but we don't like hairs in the food. Don't plan to return after 2x in a row. Never disappointed here. It definitely is not the usual Sysco or US Foods fare. Last night the side dish was sweet potato casserole of which I could have made a dinner of it. Another had the meatloaf which was a delicious original recipe. The drinks were very good and the service was prompt. read more

A lot of potential with mediocre execution: 2 stars (see below) We had heard fiends mention this new restaurant in downtown Fort Smith. I was excited because it is part of the Neumeier Restaurant dynasty. We were out running errands a decided for a late lunch (we arrived approximately 2:30 PM). We were not greeted on our arrival; in fact, we had to seek someone to seat us. We were seated in a booth in the same area as the full bar. The restaurant also has separate area with tables. The cuisine is Southern. It has a luncheon special from 11AM-2PM that we just missed. It doesn't appear that they take reservations. That was not an issue for us as there were only 2 other customers when we arrived. The have recorded music playing in the dining area that did not detract from the dining experience. What did cause an issue was the server seemed to be more intent of engaging his child in the booth behind us rather than concentrating on the job at hand (more on that). They seem to be targeting on the downtown worker lunch trade. However, this place could be a option for couples, families or groups. Now the details you really wanted me to dive into: the food. We tried two entrees: (1) the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes with white gravy and their green beans and (2) Mimi's meatloaf, mashed potatoes with brown gravy and the fried okra. Both are accompanied by a yeast roll. The food was okay and just that. See the pictures for presentation. The yeast roll was good. Yet, we had to request butter for it and then received only one pat each. The best item was to chicken fried steak (the item most often mentioned by our friends). The mashed potatoes were good, The gravies seem to be packaged gravies rather than made on site. The okra was good and all the aforementioned items were reasonably warm, not hot mind you. The disappointments included the meatloaf and green beans. Green beans!?!? How can green beans be a disappointment; add sugar. They were so sweet that the green bean flavor was absent. The meatloaf had visible large hunks of bread in it. Now we know there is bread in meatloaf. However, Martha Stewart recommends placing it in a food processor and pulse until it is fine crumbs. Others recommend soaking the bread in milk to allow for more even blending with the meat. None of the recipes I read recommended adding chunks of stale bread so that the diner experiences having a mushy area with a visible piece of bread. I mentioned the server was distracted and that's an issue. Now we don't expect one to hover over the table; but, refilling a water glass should be a given. Additionally, a smile while serving your patron would go a long way. I always ask myself, would this server be different if we were friends or family? In this case I am certain that would have been the case. Did I mention that there were only 2 other customers there at 2:30PM? So, its not as if the place was bustling with activity would pull our server away from be attentive. So, the bottom line... thumbs down. I gave them 2 stars which translates to it was Okay, there were 1-2 good qualities, the chicken fried steak was delicious,. They have potential IF they approach their service and product from a customer's experience. BUT, I still have no interest in returning unless I was with a group of friends and this was their choice. read more

Long story short: Good food, bad service. Eaten there a good amount of times, food has always been very good, service not so much. Last few times there, wait staff very preoccupied, on their phones, loudly talking about personal business, acting like they were doing you a favor to get a refill or for that matter even getting the check! I'd like to say some good things, but I'm just gonna be honest. If you are going to be in DOWNTOWN FSM you need to have some kind of standard to hold yourself to. The menu looks like it came straight from the nursing home. Again not trying to be rude, but nobody wants to go downtown on a Friday night and have Grandmas Sunday dinner. Garrison Ave is begging for some liveliness! Not another Village inn! Also might I add! Charge premium prices! No one cares as long as it's good! Just for everyone's awareness, we just went to Whipporwill Grill, across from Papas Pub, and were extremely disappointed. We first ordered the fried pickles which were crispy on the outside and raw on the inside. Our entrees were the chicken salad sandwich and the Whipporwill burger. All the fried food tasted like old grease or the grease was too hot to begin with. The chicken salad was incredibly dry, but did have decent flavor, so I was only able to eat half of it because it nearly choked me. We did have a discussion with one of the owners (Linda) about our experience and offered feedback. Our server, who was great by the way, walked over to them when we asked for the check and they chose to require us to pay for our uneaten food. We will not be back. read more

This place will not last. Ordered tamales and had no green sauce. White gravy is a no on tamales. Tasted a bit stale. Beer selection minimal unless you like IPAs. Service not up to par. Asked for chili for tamales and none. Suggested to have someone go to their other restaurant Neumeiers across the street and nope didn't happen. Take cash because if you use a credit card there is a 4% service charge added. Won't be going back. Interior of building smelled of stale cigarettes and/or cigarettes. read more

We stopped in at 1 pm on a Friday. There were only a couple of tables occupied. The waiter didn't seem to care that we were there... he showed no particular interest in being there himself. I will assume that the food would have been good had it been delivered on time. It took 35 minutes to get our food. By the time my cheeseburger was delivered, the melted cheese had cooled and reset. The soggy so-called 'fries' seemed to have just been dipped in oil. When it came time to checkout, there was no one in sight. We had to go search for someone to pay. We didn't notice until later that we were charged for drinks we didn't order. Kiting tickets? Lousy service? These are the same complaints others have had about Neumeier's from up to 8 months ago. Obviously they are not interested in or good at correcting problems. We will not be back. read more
