Paying $50 for food poisoning is diabolical. I've been to this restaurant before but it's been awhile and sadly it seems something has gone down hill. Over priced food that is pretty average (the fried chicken was good, not $17 worth). The service was normal, if anything they seemed ready to just get done with the day, made me wonder how much time they get off. The local sports support for the decorations are cute and adds a nice local touch. At the end of it all some cross contamination happened with my child's food and him and I got bad tummy aches the rest of the night, into the next day. Super wide range of choices on the menu with multiple dishes that sound great. I went with the flat iron steak with Cajun corn and fried pickles for my two sides. Superb flavor in the steak, Cajun corn was very good and the fried pickles were excellent. My wife chose the blackened catfish with crawfish etoufee and loaded grits. She liked both a lot. Stopped on our way to Branson and we were very glad we did. The jambalaya was fantastic, you must try it. Gumbos were good. We came here for the first time on 08/16/19 @ 9PM. We came in and waited abt two minutes before we were greeted and seated bc the hostess was conversing with someone at a table. The staff was friendly and our waitress made sure our drinks were filled and she checked us on us regularly. We ordered fried pickles which took awhile. But they brought us fried green tomatoes instead. They did fix this mistake and let us keep the fried green tomatoes at no charge but it was silly bc they could've just taken it back since that's not what we wanted nor were we interested in it. Anyways, since they brought out the wrong appetizer we had to wait even longer for the pickles and by the time they brought that out, our food was out within 5 minutes behind it. This place was dead. I would say 4 tables were filled. Plenty of staff walking around that were talking abt a plethora of un-work related inappropriate things. Not something I really care abt but someone else may. The fried pickles were okay. Wish they had more batter on them. For our dinner we ordered the pasta shrimp bowl and the grilled shrimp. I ordered broccoli as my side and my man had fries and hush puppies. The food was okay. Nothing really popped and nothing was standing out. Very basic and plain. The rating I gave was based mostly for attentive staff members, accountability for fixing an issue and for the food being "okay". My man did not like his shrimp one bit. I actually ate them for him but I had to dip it in my cream sauce to get any flavor out of it. He ordered "grilled" shrimp but they def were not grilled. He ate his hush puppies and his fries. My dish personally was okay. I would say easy on the green onion next time, if you want to decorate a plate with bright greens leave it to the parsley or cilantro next time, the overload of green onions made my plate presentable and pretty but in actuality was too strong in my pasta. Meh. The crayfish and boudin I had was good. My husbands chicken strips were like eating cardboard. Bengeits were fried biscuits, wouldn't recommend them. High prices were expected but wasn't expecting the high end Cajun restaurant/sports bar theme. Kind of a contradiction. Our waitress was good, she appeared to be the only one working even though there were other people there. We tipped her handsomely. The two little kids that someone, the bartender, brought to work with her added to the Hokie/surrealistic charm. Their bare feet on their table and the pitty pat of those same feet behind the bar was an added touch. If they are going to keep these prices they really need to loose about 20 of the tvs, they were mostly on the same channel anyway and class the place up some. Portion sizes are silly. I ordered 30 dollars worth of food and sizes were so tiny. The bread was a one bite tiny. Two bites of bread, 4 actual shrimps in the ettoufee and the six dollar peanut butter pie is a frozen sliver from a box pie. The tiny entree tasted pretty good but wasn't authentic and my friend and I figured we could share, but to no avail. Not worth the price and I'm assuming this was because it was a Waitr order that it was so piddly. Photos of in-house dishes were bigger and more fitting for the price point. 4 dollar cup of soup was only about an actual .25 cup of soup over .25 cup of rice. Beignets small, hard, thick dough moons that didn't remotely resemble an actual doughnut let alone a beignet. I've had a cold one before and know what a cold beignet is supposed to taste like. Boondocks We went there to eat tonight after seeing some good reviews. I was a fan of Beef O'Bradys, liked to go there and get a decent meal and enjoy a glass or two of wine with my wife. First I want to say our server Deja (hope I got the spelling correct) was fantastic! We started our meal with onion rings. When they arrived, I noticed they were very greasy, but I'm down for greasy onion rings once in awhile. The problem was they had been fried in the same oil as fish and had a fishy taste. I still enjoyed them, my wife did not. (If they weren't fried in the same oil as the fish I apologize, change the oil it's old!) My wife ordered the shrimp. She ate one, thought it tasted funny, ate half of a second and asked me to taste the other half. The shrimp was bad, not sure if it was old or just left out sitting waiting to be prepared for a meal. In any case, she has had a upset stomach since we left. I had the sampler and the food was luke warm. I went to culinary school and I am Serve Safe certified. I understand the rigors of a restaurant and gave Boondocks the benefit of the doubt. When our server came to the table and saw that only two of the shrimp had been consumed, she asked why. We explained and she took the plate. When she returned, she had spoken to the owner and we were told maybe you weren't used to the seasoning. Given my training and experience of the cuisine, I was not happy. I did not care if the meal was comped, a simple acknowledgement of the food not being properly prepared would have been fine. Since the owner had spent a few minutes at the table behind us discussing family and friends in Plummerville, I expected she would take more interest in a customer that was not pleased with their meal. So if anyone else had the shrimp and you don't feel well, I have just explained what we experienced. I hope my post doesn't get flagged because I feel the public has a right to know. On the first night of our visit to Fort Smith last week, we headed to Boondocks based upon our internet research. We have lived in southern Louisiana and now visit there frequently, and we were attracted by the 'promise' of authentic southern Louisiana/Cajun dishes. What we got was a little better than edible - but was nowhere near being authentic southern LA/Cajun dishes!! The seafood gumbo was decent at best. What was named jambalaya wasn't much more than lightly seasoned rice with a few tiny bits of meat. The red beans and rice was a pathetic excuse for what should be a delight to the palate!! The one bright spot was the white chocolate bread pudding, which was quite good; however, it was not worth the fairly long drive to get it! The server was attentive and did a good job, but the food just didn't measure up at all! We agreed that we should have dined at one of the other Fort Smith restaurants rather than Boondocks. We will NOT revisit Boondocks in the future!! read more

Being from New Orleans I have strong reservations to cajun and southern food. Poboy bread was way below par for a poboy. Red beans and rice were way too spicy for this cajun dish (non cajuns think everything is supposed to be spicy). Gumbo was lacking in the proper roux and then for some reason had spice. My biggest pet peeve is don't claim to cook these dishes if you can not do them correctly. Steak poboy (not really a poboy) was really good. read more

Very poor service and poor quality food overall do not like it at all horrible communication

I am a regular at this establishment and often order delivery once a week. It was very helpful to have free delivery since a lot of restaurants were only offering curbside and I don't get to leave for lunch like many people do. After ordering my lunch today and having it delivered I was bummed to find out that they changed the free lunch delivery and is now charging $5.00. Great place to eat and the staff is always so friendly but will no longer be doing delivery. read more

I, my wife and two of my grandkids had dinner on July 20 2020. We had a very pleasant time and the food was very tasty. The grandkids are very picky about what food they eat but one had the three piece chicken and the other had the Red Beans and Rice. Both cleaned their plates and this is a rarity for them. I had the Shrimp Shirley and this was very good as my wife took the safe approach in the chicken fried steak. We all enjoyed the food and the wait staff did an excellent job. For desert we had the bread pudding with the sauce and was some of the best I have ever eaten. Boondocks is definitely worth trying out. It definitely has the best Catfish in town. That has been my go to. Decided to try the Scallops tonight. So glad I did. They were DELICIOUS! Perfectly cooked. So far, everything I've tried here has been spot on. Prime Rib sandwich, muffuletta, fried chicken, fried green tomatoes all soooo good!
