Pain, especially when I had to walk down stairs. I had been doing physical therapy for a few months to no avail. I was totally "sold" when, at my first session, Patricia corrected my problem by concentrating on my hips, not my knees as to the source of my pain. After my first therapy session, I got up and literally ran in place with no knee pain. It was miraculous! Another magical cure was for trigger finger. This time, Patricia did an acupuncture treatment which unblocked the energy path which was causing my fingers to lock when in a closed or fist-like position and severe pain when trying to open my hand. This too was a one time treatment. Note, previously, I had surgery on the other hand for the same condition. I am left with scar tissue and loss of a range in motion of my fingers on that hand to this day. Patricia is extremely intuitive. He still bills your insurance in addition for each visit he performs. He will tell you that he gets better results from patients if they sign the agreement and pay in advance, thus ensuring they stay...well of course they are going to stay, they paid in advance for the service. Dr. Rubino estimates how long the treatment will be for your area of treatment, then tacks on additional treatments (6 more months) after the problem is fixed for $139 a month (not covered by insurance, so an additional $834)! I told him I would sign an agreement that I am committed to getting better (why I go to the doctor in the first place) but figured it would put his mind at ease for this ridiculous agreement he is pushing on patients. When I went to check out, he left the $139 month for 6 months on the agreement!!! Loved the treatment but will not go back after being shaken down for money for services not rendered. Be careful, what you sign up for with this office.

I had a deeply disappointing and costly experience with Dr. Carpenos at New England Spine and Disc…read more I came in with leg pain caused by two degenerating discs pinching a nerve. During my initial visit, Dr. Carpenos recommended spinal decompression therapy -- a treatment not covered by insurance. He then started to talk to me like a snake oil salesman: fast and confusing. I explained that I had a very limited budget and needed clarity before committing. So I asked him to slow down and I asked some very specific questions about how the treatment wold work, what the success rate typically was, and what I could expect if I decided to follow the treatment plan. Instead of answering my questions calmly, he became visibly annoyed and said he felt "pressured" by me. I reminded him that it was MY body and my very limited, hard-earned money -- and I was the one feeling pressured to spend it without him having the patience to explain this therapy that insurance wouldn't even cover a significant portion of. His first response was to say that financial hardship shouldn't be a barrier to treatment. When I said I'd have to decline since I couldn't afford the full amount he wanted (Close to 4,000 as I recall) he suggested fewer visits for about half the price. , When I expressed concern and asked if I'd still get relief he assured me I would, so I agreed to take part in the treatment. But at the end of the treatment, I felt no improvement. When I reminded him of his earlier assurance, he said, "I expected that you'd feel a bit better, see the results, want more improvement, and then commit to the final visits." He'd completely ignored my statement at the beginning that there WAS no more money. I felt completely misled and taken advantage of. The experience was not only financially draining but physically uncomfortable. His chiropractic adjustments were rushed, and during one session, he failed to check the placement of my arms during a bear hug/anterior thoracic adjustment. When "hugged" me sharply my fists were jammed into my voice box which hurt so I reflexively pushed back. He asked what was wrong and I explained what had happened. The following week, he asked if my cold was better. When I looked at him, confused, he said "Well, last week you had a sore throat, didn't you?" [It was surreal, like he just was unable to take any responsibility for his own actions.] He also gave questionable medical advice outside his expertise -- once telling me not to use sunscreen despite a family history of skin cancer -- and another time I heard him telling his staff that he'd advised another patient to ignore their cancer doctor's recommendations and to follow his own. Dr. Carpenos' demeanor throughout my treatment was pushy, rude, and evasive when asked direct questions. His team failed to track the decompression machine's pressure settings, so I had to remember my own numbers to ensure proper progression -- a detail that made me feel my investment wasn't respected. If you read his responses to other negative reviews, you'll see a pattern: sarcasm, deflection, and a refusal to take responsibility. I strongly caution anyone considering treatment here. While some patients may find relief, many don't -- and Dr. Carpenos seems far more focused on securing payment than on assessing whether spinal decompression is truly appropriate for your condition.

The seemingly underlying goal of this company is to get patients to keep coming and fill the appt book. For me, they were light on dealing the root cause and just kept me you doing their exercises. This was never going to eliminate my problem. So I found a medical massage company in the same complex and in 3 sessions my problem was remarkably better. (They said that they get people from PT all the time). If PT works for you keep doing it. But if it's like filling a swimming pool one drop at a time, look elsewhere. This PT facility is run by mostly very young, new therapists. They execute well, but experienced medical oversight is lacking. The paperwork is typical of a big outfit like HSS - took over 30 minutes of my time to answer their overly complex medical assessment. Then when I saw the therapist, he hadn't even looked at it, based on the questions he asked me. Totally disrespectful of patients' time. I hate it when companies abuse you for their own benefit and care more about their needs and time than yours. And we are the customer! They aggressively try to book appts before you walk out the door. I have been to better PT operations.
