I didn't find what I was looking for, but time flew by as I looked through this book and that. What I loved was that I wasn't hounded by the lady manning the counter to buy before reading a chapter or two. And, as there was no free wi-fi to be had in these parts, it was a friendly reminder that... hey! Reading is fun! For real. Would love to come back when I have more time, to see what needs to occupy my personal collection :).

I didn't have enough time…read more.. I wandered into Shelf Life Books too close to closing time. As I browsed the shelves, I quickly discovered that I was a special independent bookstore and felt a certainly literary nirvana that I had last experienced at Powell's Books in Portland. The selection was thoughtfully curated and was strong with the Canadian Author force. Around every corner was a new thought-provoking discovery and a desire to linger and explore further. I have been going to Bell's for nearly five years since moving to Altadore. The ambience, music,…read moreand staff generally are great and exactly what you're looking for in a local, casual, come-as-you-are coffee shop. There is one unsavoury staff member. Tall blonde person who seems to think it's alright to gossip about his personal life - audible to all in the shop. On multiple occasions have been served without so much as a crack of a smile, a thank you (after tipping well and spending over $20), and on top of that, will whisper things like "he's been here all day". Has made me and others feel uncomfortable even being there many times. My advice to the owner: If someone clearly doesn't like customer service or ALL people in general, maybe a forward-facing job that should require basic human politeness at the very least isn't something that person should be doing. Other than that, Bell's is a fantastic place.

They provide two choices for sandwiches, one they call a sandwich and the other a panini. The panini is exactly the same made with the same bread, but is now a few dollars more. They have internet, but it's not too quick, and they frown on you sitting and using it if you're not purchasing food, etc. Overall, it just wasn't a pleasant experience!

They've always been super helpful when I've been in-person, guiding me to extraordinary and unique books, but I had never considered if I could order from them online. And of course you can! They use BookManager as their online store and it works great. I ordered online Sunday at noon and had my books in-hand early afternoon Monday. Delivery man was an elderly gentleman, super friendly and all masked up. Thank you!

They have a great selection of both new and used books. When I asked about the title I was looking for, the staff member at the front quickly located it for me, which I really appreciated. They even have a bookstore kitty, which made the visit extra charming. Definitely worth a stop if you love books!

My partner was able to locate some used books here that we couldn't find at the library, or the waitlist was way too long. Most used books are in almost new condition. Some used books are as low as $8 per book which a great deal. There is no bathroom in the bookstore (my little one had to go!) staff informed us we could use the theatre bathroom (next door).
