I saw a sponsored Facebook ad for a free Intro to Coding class at Eleven Fifty Academy and signed up. This class took place on a Saturday inside Launch Fishers, and more than 40 students showed up. It was a diverse group but we all shared a common interest in learning more about coding. No experience is required! The instructors explain the basics of code and walk you through step-by-step as you code on your own. It's done on a free online tool so you can take home your coding masterpiece and continue to practice. Breakfast and lunch is provided and admission counselors are on-site if you want to learn more about a career in coding and enrolling in their classes. There is zero pressure to sign up, so if you're like me and just want to get your feet wet, you won't be judged.

The instructors and learning teams are all fantastic and super encouraging. I'm not going to lie, there's definitely a learning curve, especially if you have no coding experience. But I promise if you put in the work you'll be amazed at what you can learn in a short amount of time. EFA is always updating their coursework to keep up with current technologies. Their career team members are awesome and you get a lifetime career support! I know a few people that have gotten jobs BEFORE they graduate. I have put my job search on hold because I found that I enjoy web development. And I'm not at all nervous about NOT finding a job. Another plus is that you can either do the 12-week full time course or the 24-week course. I am able to work my full time job; we meet twice a week and every other Saturday. At the time I'm writing this review, EFA is currently 100% virtual. So you can live anywhere and attend. Ok,I know I'm starting to sound like a sales pitch/advertisement. If you are interested, I would attend one of their free classes. :D

Erskine-Green Training Institute was founded by the Arc of Indiana Foundation in 2016 as a "first…read moreof its kind" postsecondary vocational training program that specifically targets serving individuals whose academic, social, communication, and adaptive skills are affected due to a disability. Housed inside Muncie's Courtyard by Marriott on High Street, which is also owned by Arc of Indiana Foundation and managed by General Hotels Corporation, Erskine-Green Training Institute is named after two esteemed Hoosiers - Carl Erskine and Steve Green - both of whom have had their lives significantly impacted by disability and who've spent much of their lives advocating for people with disabilities. Erskine-Green offers 10-13 week programs in specific fields including hospitality, food service, healthcare, and inventory distribution. The programs aim to offer individuals with disabilities tangible job skills that will allow them to enter market-wage jobs in integrated community settings. At the three year mark, their success rate is between 80-85% in terms of those who've graduated from an Erskine-Green program actually finding jobs in their fields of choice. In other words, Erskine-Green is groundbreaking and it's changing the lives of people with disabilities for the better. The vast majority of students who attend Erskine-Green actually live within the Courtyard by Marriott during their 10-13 week training program. This provides the feeling of a "campus" and allows them to gain natural supports while also growing independent living skills. The community has embraced the program, with Ball State University serving as a resource for part-time employees who provide support, mentoring, and serve in other capacities. Ball State also provides other resources of support. IU Health has proven to be a strong corporate supporter and IU Health - Ball Memorial is a training site as is the Courtyard by Marriott and the 625 TapHouse located inside the hotel. In the program's early days, Scott Wise and Thr3e Wisemen Brewery was also a strong supporter. While I didn't attend Erskine-Green, I've been a supporter from its beginning and if you ever visit the Courtyard by Marriott you can find my name on the hotel's donor wall as someone who has done two fundraising events for the program. Funding for the program comes largely from Vocational Rehabilitation, though other funding sources exist including grants, self-pay, and both state/federal funds. I myself started a scholarship program at Erskine-Green. Entrance into Erskine-Green is not "automatic." You do have to have a certain degree of independent living skills, for example being able to handle or arrange for the handling of personal care, but other skills, like learning how to utilize public transportation, are taught within the framework of the program. Erskine-Green Training Institute has been so successful that plans are already underway to open a second campus in Evansville. Erskine-Green celebrates its alumni and maintains contact, though job placement is largely up to Vocational Rehabilitation counselors, job coaches, or an individual's support team. As part of the program, however, the students are taught both resume creation and interview skills. Erskine-Green offers career sampling sessions several times throughout the year and monthly general tours. As a working adult with a disability, Erskine-Green excites me because it's a quality program with a terrific staff and is empowering individuals with a disability to live up to their dreams and their highest potential. I've spoken at the school a couple times and I've been constantly impressed by teachers, leadership, students, volunteers, and everyone involved. The results speak for themselves and it's exciting to watch people realize they can truly chase their dreams. Erskine-Green continues to be one of Indiana's best kept secrets with a reputation that is growing that ensures the school won't be a secret much longer.

Well let's get to the good parts, there are a good variety of programs from law enforcement to landscape, business, computer graphics, dental, medical, forensics, mechanics and culinary just to name a few. The cafeteria is student ran by the culinary department, grounds are maintained by the landscape department, school nurse is ran by the medical department. So this tech school is pretty much self sufficient students will get a lot of real hands on experience and guest speakers and not just learning from a text book and videos there actually putting the skills and knowledge into practice here. Your student will learn from instructors that have been in or are still in there respective lines of work so you can be sure they know what they are talking about. Rarely do the students just sit and read from a book or do worksheets. My only complaint would be if former head of special education has any kind of authority there still. As she had a habit of giving away answers and or getting on students who she deemed to be lazy or weren't meeting her impossibly high expectations and would go out of her way to interrupt students in there classes to criticize them. She would also gleefully point out to parents of the student anything they did wrong. I sincerely hope this woman doesn't have any influence here still. Any former student you ask that ever had a test read could vouch to the fact that she blatantly did give out obvious clues that made it impossible to get a wrong answer. Except for when she gave the about a dozen students the wrong answer to a question and wouldn't let us leave until we wrote down the incorrect answer.

PLEASE READ I…read moregraduated from the electrical program with a 3.97 GPA and 94% attendance, but my overall experience was very disappointing. Upper management was unprofessional and disorganized, and for the amount they charge, the quality should be much higher. Teachers were treated poorly, which caused several of the best instructors to leave during my time there. The hands-on training was weak and poorly managed. Fortunately, I had previous experience and often ended up helping other students with lab work. We were chronically short on teachers, which hurt the quality of instruction even more. At one point, a new instructor with no background in motors or PLCs was assigned to teach that class on his very first day. It was clear that management had set him--and us--up for failure. Overall, this program needs serious improvement in management, staffing, and hands-on training before it can justify its cost. The only positive aspect of my experience at this school was the career services team and the few teachers who genuinely cared about their students. Everything else in this review reflects my overall experience during the entire program. There are much better options out there if you or your child is interested in getting into the electrical field. ABC and IEC apprenticeship programs are generally a much smarter route if you want to become an electrician, since they combine paid on-the-job training with structured classroom instruction and lead toward journeyman status. If you're considering this school for other trades besides electrical, I'd still be very cautious and find a different school

Not only did my child receive 3 eviction notices because the school would not pay the rent, I now have a collections company harassing me for money. I have even spoken with the president of the school and he refused to help and would only give political answers. There are plenty of Tech schools out there. Don't make the same mistake that I did!
