After a lot of research and visits to rehabilitation centers, my sister and I were lucky enough to find Sunset. We knew from the moment we walked in, this was the place for her. The Administrator, Bob, was actually the first person we spoke to. The Admissions Consultant, whom we were scheduled to meet with, was wrapping up with something else so Bob offered to show us around. He introduced us to the therapists, nurses, and social worker. We walked through the building and outside on the beautifully maintained grounds where there was a vegetable garden, paved walkways and a gazebo. We watched a round of BINGO, one of the many activities conducted daily, along with Social Hour, Manicure Time, Art and Crafts... My mom has been there 2 months now. The facility has been short-staffed much like many of the nursing homes as of recently, but they still manage to take care of their patients, pick up the phone when I call, and respond to requests for little things that I've asked for. My e-mails are always answered and the staff is very helpful and kind. I have no issue with giving this facility a five star rating!

Less than 24 hours before she passed she fell out of bed. She had a DNR . They contacted us and I was in there hours before and mentioned she was fidgeting and going to fall out. Her bed should have been lowered then and there. She suffered for a very long time for days before . Unfortunately she passed there . Like I said there was negative and positive. I just feel that the falling out of bed could have been done differently.

I got out of there about a month ago, and I am still having nightmares...and I mean real nightmares. They deprived me of oxygen so many times...each time I had to call 911 who came to my rescue. It was told to me I'm not the only one who had that problem...again, it goes back to lack of help who really cares. I mean, in a Nursing Home/Rehab facility, wouldn't you expect them to have enough sheets and hospital gowns? They run out often...I had to wear the same gown for 3 days and staff was trying to put one of my dresses on another lady who said she didn't want to wear my dress and she knew it was mine as she had seen me in it! What if I had gone into PT and seen her in it? What if she couldn't talk to say anything? I wouldn't trust them with my little dog! My room mate kept asking to be sent to the Hospital as she was throwing up and couldn't keep anything down for a week...they would not let her go, talking her out of it each time...I called over the curtain that if she wanted to go to the hospital, it was her right. I was told to shut up and mind my own business...finally they let her go and a couple weeks later I heard she needed to get to the hospital sooner, and she died. She was only 49. Guess you get the idea about this "Center of Health"..they don't even cover you after they help you with the bed pan. I'll add more when I get the chance...but there must be better places. Facility is Disassocating it's self from the unpopular name "STONEHEDGE", insisting it be called it's new name: Rome Center for Rehabilitation and Health Care, still located at 801 James Street, Rome, NY. Here's a hint and some good advice - They do have an awesome rehab area - but come as an out patient...nobody should have to endure these horrendous, uncaring, filthy conditions. Many here are unable to talk, so I will be their voice. Keeping this in mind, the night nurses and last night even a supervisor, insisted I sleep on linen that became urine soaked while using the bedpan...of course I refused, as to have done so would have left me with raw skin by morning. Staff is really nice, but you can see they are over worked and under paid. The food is all from cans and Chef Ramsey would throw up on it. I am told a new person just bought the place a few weeks ago...still, there seems to be a lack of knowledge of oxygen use, since I have only been here a week and a half, and have alredy had to call 911 twice and they ran me to the ER at the Rome hospital....each time it was that I hadn't been given enough oxygen. I'll keep you posted how things go, as I'll be here awhile. I have to call the health dept. Monday, as they told the hospital they had a working Bi-Pap for me, and it hasn't worked one night! Also had to be taken to the hospital the other day (again) with side affects from not using the bi-pap. FYI- a bi-pap works while you are sleeping, to get rid of the dangerous gases left in our body from breathing.Again today I had to call all over on my phone, as the bells here get ignored. The first time I had to pee and poop- I almost didn't make it, as it took me an entire hour to get a nurse to help me.Then, in the afternnon it was oxygen I was out of!! Hows THAT for a scare?? To be without oxygen,bedridden, and nobody will come help you?

This community is extraordinary. The campus consists of independent living spaces, senior housing,…read moreskilled nursing facilities, medical research facilities and dining facilities that are more like high-end restaurants than nursing home cafeterias! I had a broiled Seabass this evening with finger potatoes and roasted carrots, French onion soup and French vanilla ice cream that I would swear came out of a gourmet kitchen. There was a full bar in the Acacia Village complex with a surprising assortment of beer, wine and spirits. The residents of these various facilities seem authentically happy and there is plenty to do. I got to check out hydroponic greenhouses, a library, two different chapels, fitness centers and some historic sites in addition to a number of walking trails. I know many people here, although it is only my second time visiting. When it comes time for me to retire, I will strongly consider this magnificent facility.

We resisted placing my aging mother anywhere as we believed caring for her ourselves was best…read more Following an inpatient hospital stay, mother required skilled care and rehabilitation that we were unable to provide at home. We feel as if we won the lottery in securing a room for her at the Eastern Star campus. From her arrival we were given all information possible regarding her stay. The congeniality of the staff is to be commended. Everyone whether part of mother's care team or not, address us in passing. They check on her constantly, and we have visited at all times of day and night and found these to be the standard. The staff appear to actually enjoy their work and make it a less clinical environment than other facilities we have been to. The rehabilitation staff have gone above and beyond in order to strengthen mother to return home. Mother has profound dementia and hearing loss,but is always spoken to with care and kindness. The medical staff is thorough and forthcoming with updates on mother's progress. When the time comes for other to have end of life residential care,should circumstances dictate,we will not hesitate in returning her to the EasternStar.
