This movie theatre is one of the best places on the planet. They show niche movies, they show…read morecurrent movies, and their cult classic nights always ensure a full house. I know they partner with Amherst College's film club as well. They host special screenings with talks beforehand. The theaters range from small to super small and intimate, offering a unique viewing experience that no other place in the area can provide. This cinema is ensuring the film doesn't die and that no one is left behind. They were particularly influential in my film journey because of all the international films that they show. I've seen Norwegian, Brazilian, French, and Japanese movies to name a few. Thank you for such a great experience and I hope to return sometime soon. Please visit and become a member if you can!

The truth is, I attended a show here by accident. It was the weekend of The Back Porch music festival and I intended to see the show of Maine musician Griffin William Sherry. It was super difficult to get anyone on the phone, but I finally did, and was told that Griffin would be among the musicians playing at the Friday night show at the Academy of Music, which was also going to be a tribute to Willie Nelson! How exciting! So I hung up the phone, bought tickets, booked a room at Hotel Northampton, and then drove down from Maine on a Friday after work. It was a beautiful venue, and a marvelous show, performed by a who's who of western Mass musicians. The only downside was that Griffin William Sherry did *not* play in the Willie Nelson tribute. His show was at The Parlor Room, at the same time as the Willie Nelson Tribute, so we missed it. Very disappointing *and* although I wish the person I spoke to on the phone gave accurate information, we saw a pretty amazing show at a lovely venue, so four stars.

Great location - so many awesome bars and restaurants in the area (shout out to Packards and The Tunnel Bar). Parking was easy to find (and free since it was Sunday!). Minus one star because the traffic flow wasn't super well organized - you have to wait in line for drinks where people are shuffling around to find their seat section. It also did not feel accessible for those with mobility issues. Not sure if they have an elevator (didn't see signage) but the basement was a bit of a haul down the stairs (especially coming from the upper level).

Quaint little theatre packs quite a punch!…read more I've seen four shows at this theatre: Barefoot in the Park, Sound of Music, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and a Christmas Carol. All four were superb. You will be amazed with how much can be done with such a small stage. Some seats make you feel as if you're actually part of the show. You may not see any movie stars but I will tell you that the amateurs performing on stage will WOW you. They sing, dance and act. Ever wanted to try your hand at acting, then this is the place to start. Their production of A Christmas Carol was fantastic. Can't wait for South Pacific.

Double Edge shows are an insane and beautiful experience. They put a lot of themselves in these…read moreshows. They throw themselves in ponds! Crawl around in Rivers! Climb and perform from trees! in the cold! In the rain! In the heat! Do ecstatic meditative dances! Puppets! dabble in some circus and gymnastics! Mythologies! Surrounded by nature! This years spectacle included a lot of animal characters... and then when they were making their animal sounds and gestures a real bird like... joined them and was singing and bopping around on the cut trees floating in the pond. It was surprising and very beautiful. Their shows are just so damn exciting and they just are seemingly unafraid. I loved both Summer spectacles that I've seen. They also collaborate with other groups and sometimes let other groups preview work on their farm. We were lucky to see the Hinterlands preview their "Will you miss me when I'm gone" piece there. If you have to travel to see them (and it's pretty worth it). Make plans for food. Do not wait until after the show. There is nothing nearby, and the restaurants might be closed once you get to Turners Falls (the next town). Eat before the show. There aren't a lot of hotels, but apparently there are a number of air bnb's around. Do yourself a favor - also buy your tickets well in advance. They sell out.

How on earth has no one reviewed Double Edge yet?!?!?…read more I have been to the last two summer show cases (The Firebird and the Odyssey) both of which were FANTASTIC! The shows run rain or shine during the summer in the evenings. Both times I've gone it's been a little drizzly, but not too bad. It's okay to bring an umbrella as long as you don't block other audience members with it. I really enjoy the fact that the summer showcases use different areas and building on the farm. The shows are very interactive and use some VERY cool tricks. The actors run and jump and climb and swing. I HIGHLY recommend going to see one of the summer showcases

Attended 3 events -- open air performance (meh), Doris Duke (meh) and main Ted Shawn theater (yay). Prices are $$$$$, parking is a challenge, and the magic was a bit subdued. I am a lifelong fan of Jacob's Pillow! I have been to so many performances here and enjoyed each…read moreone. I am also a frequent visitor of the gift shop, and I even took a dance class when I was younger. Most recently, I came for an outdoor dance performed by two different dance teams that had collaborated on Irish Step-dancing pieces. I was told that I would appreciate the performance because I have some Irish in my blood, not sure how that works, but I really did enjoy it! The dancers worked so well together. They glided across the stage, and they looked so happy to be there. There was one dancer in particular who really seemed like there was nowhere he would rather be. I also came for a tap dancing performance and I was in awe of all the performers who clearly put 110% into their performance. I was beyond happy with both experiences, and I've always greatly appreciated the talent and effort of all performers.
