I've heard great things about this place, but I honestly didn't expect its dishes to be so flavourful and delicious! I asked for the oxtail, and she kindly warmed it up for me (it wasn't an available option on the menu that day). There's only one woman who works there, and she is both the owner and the only server! She has a lovely smile and attitude, and very kindly put up with our confused questions (it was my dad and my first time trying Indian Caribbean food). My dad ordered the curry duck with a side of lima beans, and he polished off his plate until it was super clean. My oxtail was fall off the bone tender, and had completely absorbed all the flavour of the sauces. Every other curry or ox dish I've had pales in comparison! read more

I have a special place in my heart for The New Delhi Deli. My longtime favourite place to eat in the Covent Garden Market, the food is delicious, with lots of veggie options, and it varies every time! Owner Bahn is friendly and just a lovely person, and I love sitting at the counter and eating with real cutlery, pouring a glass of water, and chatting with the other diners. The woman who works here is lovely and friendly. I stopped by to get a snack and she was busy in the kitchen area cleaning. I waited for a few minutes and when she didn't see me, I called out to her. She was apologetic and quickly finished up what she was doing and came to take my order. I can tell she really puts her heart into the food and cooking with the spices to make her food tasty. She told me it's hard work but she's busy and she likes cooking from scratch. She was kind and wanted to give me a few samples but I declined after the first one since I can't have too spicy foods and wasn't sure how spicy the chicken was. I noticed for mid afternoon there were a few people sitting at the counter space eating so this place seems popular. read more

I'd go here every evening when I was in London. The chicken curry with rice and salsa is my favourite combination. Love the eggplant in yogurt curry as well as the onion bhajis. Bhan makes different curries and they are great. Some much more delicious than others. Also, the black rice is something I got introduced to, here. Bhan's a great host. She is patient and hardworking and she tries to accommodate people as much as she can even very near to the closing time. I miss going here. read more

I'm a bad Londoner. I have been truant from the Covent Garden market for some time and finally returned today. One of the recommended stops was the New Delhi Deli, a small stand featuring Indian and Caribbean food. They have a blackboard with daily specials featuring a meat/rice/vegetable combination. I had the small chicken curry with rice and the potato/cauliflower along with a side of jerk chicken and a spicy Jamaican patty. It came to $12 or so. Tried the food here yesterday for the first time. Amazingly flavourful and fresh. Got the rice, Chicken curry, and potatoes. I've been a little homesick lately, so this place was the perfect meal. A great place to go if craving authentic flavours! It's pretty much just a stall in the Covent Garden Market, so don't go here for a fancy time out or anything like that. I visited the place from Sarnia to have some Indian food and it was amazing. I felt like having home cooked Indian food rather than eating out in a food court or restaurant. Lamb curry in particular, it was so good. I am planning to visit the place again this saturday just for lamb curry. I haven't been to this place in ages but my recent return to New Delhi Deli surprised me as the food was even better than what I remember of it years back. Their curry goat in particular was fantastic (tender and nicely spiced). The rice it came with was well cooked and the chutney on the side was super-fresh (it was probably made with tomato, cucumber, and cilantro). The owner seems very passionate about her food and she also told me that she will have specials each day like curry duck, oxtail, fish, etc. This one's a keeper. read more

The lady behind the counter asked my background, if I spoke English, and made a comment that because I went to university I should know better English and know how to read.
