Wow, this park is pretty huge, but then again it does happen to be a river-side inner-city park so I probably shouldn't be all that surprised. In fact it makes a pretty nice end to the river-side walk that I took when I was last in Brisbane, and the park itself really does bring that trip to a lovely conclusion. There is quite a lot of shade, and also there is a converted factory to one side, which cafes and a bar. Yeah, this place is pretty good. read more

Just the best park in the Central Brisbane area. Beautiful gardens, roses, shady trees, great kids play area. The Brisbane Powerhouse, Watt Restaurant and Bar Alto right on the park. Plus the beautiful river with a Citycat Terminal and Bus Stop right there. Always busy on weekends and find weather. The Rotunda is used for Weddings and small gatherings. Personal trainers, tai chi instructors use the large grassed areas. And there is a wonderful range of new bbq's and seating down by the river. Visit it often as the roses seem to go all year. The Farmers Market is there every second Saturday and it booms! Take a picnic, a ball, a kite, there is plenty of room. It's flat so easy for the elderly, it's also right there for the Free music or comedy from the Powerhouse. And you can keep walking along from the Park using the fabulous riverwalk all the way to Teneriffe. Just the best spot in Brissie for a weekend. read more

Of course New Farm Park has received good reviews; it's one of the best places to get a bit of fresh air on a Sunday (or any other) afternoon. There aren't a lot of areas in Brisbane with such an explicit vibe of goodwill, which may sound like an over exaggeration, but is totally appropriate for New Farm Park. Any time the weather is half decent, you can find hundreds and hundreds of people of all ages lazing in the shade, picnicking, throwing a Frisbee around, walking a dog, or playing sport on the lawns. It's accessible by car, bus, and CityCat and food and refreshments are available at nearby shops, but don't drink too much as the toilets can be a bit dodgy. That's the only negative thing I have to say about the park, which is a fantastic place to spend some time with friends or just with a good book. read more

Why should you go to New Farm Park? Big, open space. Enough for your different groups of friends to each have a picnic there and never run into each other. Do you have many partners that don't know about each other? Solution: Take each on a date to New Farm Park at different ends. You'll get each knocked out in one afternoon, and you'll get some exercise in between. Nah, I'm kidding. If you have a lot of partners just be honest and have one big picnic. Much easier. Shady areas. Trees everywhere. Not crammed under a shade cloth, but if you want to be away from the trees you could always take your own. Plus, a bunch of those big shady trees are on the water front. Nice views. Close to the valley. And it doesn't seem it! But the end of the park is on Brunswick St, which goes straight up to the heart of Fortitude Valley. Have some nice drinks in the park, then go for a walk or bus ride up to the valley. Next to the Power House. For live comedy, shows, music, much of anything! Great location to have a picnic dinner before a show, as my partner and I did recently. Though we forgot wine glasses so did the classy 'drinking wine out of the bottle' thing, it was still nice. Sports. If you're into that kind of thing. Lovely for a bike ride, big enough to kick a ball around and not get in anyone's way (please don't be those obnoxious people who kick balls to close to people). read more

Its also a popular spot for the loved up to exchange vows and make an honest couple of each other. Parking can become scarce so my tip: Jump on the City Cat and hop off at the New Farm Park spot? New Farm Park's enormous adventure playground is absolutely amazing. It is by far the best playground in Brisbane and and will wear out even the most energetic of children. Amongst the roots of huge old fig trees is a massive wooden fort with dozens of bridges. Nearby is a stone dragon poking its toothy face out of the soft-fall surrounded by dragon eggs. To one side is a gigantic rope climbing frame that would daunt even Spiderman. The playground is designed to spark the imagination of the most television addicted youngsters and will probably even mildly excite their parents. I know I can't come here without finding my inner child and wanting to play hide and seek amongst the fig trees. Here, kids can be pirates, tree fairies, knights in shining armour, superheroes, damsels in distress or anything they want to be. There are toilets nearby along with lots of shaded grassy areas for picnics. There are bbqs and tables but this is a very popular playground so you need to get in early to snag them and the same goes for carparks. There is also usually an ice-cream and coffee van just to the side of the playground so mum and dad (or the babysitter!) can replenish all the energy lost chasing kids around. read more

As parks go, New Farm parking is killing it. The big expanse of greenery, sitting by the water, is a beautiful escape from the nearby city. Having live by the park for two months now, today I stepped my first steps within its boundaries and I was immediately annoyed that I hadn't spent any time there previously. A friend and I had set out for an early morning walk (8am on Saturday - I didn't even know that time existed on a Saturday) and, after grabbing a coffee from my fave cafe, Pablo, we set upon the park. About a km walk, we ducked into the bustling markets as a detour to grab another coffee and to see how the "normal" people live [We both work in hospitality, getting us up at 8am is practically a miracle, let alone out of the house. The phenomena of early morning walks, markets and having our crap together before lunch time are pretty foreign to us]. I thoroughly enjoyed the markets and we decided to do another lap of the park before heading home. When you try something new, it's easy to get caught up in the "ooh, shiny new thing" feeling, but as we made plans to do this again next week and to organise a little get together in the park soon, I felt as if I'd stumbled upon one of my happy places. I can envisage myself under a tree with a book, hosting a picnic, or walking around the beautiful park. I felt so relaxed (a feeling that is also not something I'm used to). Well played, New Farm. I absolutely love this beautiful park. So many places to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet. Even when the park is at it's busiest you can still feel like you've escaped the hustle and bustle of the city. Lots of BBQ areas and huge play area for the kids. There's so many different areas to escape to. You'll almost always see a wedding or two if you're here on a Saturday. Great place for families, celebrations or just relaxing. I also love coming here at this time of year ( around October ) because the beautiful old Jacarandas are in bloom everywhere. Stunning purple everywhere you look. read more

New Farm Park is one of the most popular parks in Brisbane city and it's not hard to see why. The large oval is perfect for family picnics and tossing around a round of frisbee, and there's a white pavilion that is often used to hold intimate weddings and the occasional band. If you prefer a hot meal, there are a number of free well-maintained BBQs that have probably seen thousands of sausages and onions. The soccer field sees regular practices and games throughout the week, and if the weekend practice doesn't wear out the kids, there's the huge kids playground that's surrounded by lush vegetation and trees, so little fingers don't burn from touching equipment that's been sitting under the scorching Australian sun. read more

What's not to like about New Farm Park? It's big, it's pretty, it's close to the Powerhouse and has plenty of places to settle down and have a picnic and kick a ball around. It's lovely to ride your bike around on the footpaths and have a look at all the flowers and ride down along the riverside in the afternoons. It's a great place to catch up with friends and family or to lay on the grass and watch the clouds. Could do with more BBQ spots, though. read more

I love this park. I LOVE this park. I love THIS park. I love this PARK. Not only is it right next to the Powerhouse where I sometimes dapple in my stand up comedy entertainment, it has an excellent cafe on the boardwalk. There's music, there's people getting funky under the tree, it's a big park okay. Time and time again, I have been here (always in a different section, that's how big it is) for my friends' birthday parties, barbeque's, Sunday nap time sessions, frisbee sessions, spot that trendy dog sessions... it's a great park. You will see kids here on the weekends and more kids here... which means it's great for kids. They can run, there isn't that much in the way of playground, but there is ample running around crazy after having sweets space. Always good when you want to tire the little suckers out parents. Always a good thing when they nap for a long time after. So take your baby in the pram for a stroll here, they'll go to sleep. Take your kids here to get that extra little bit of energy out of them, they will go to sleep. Take yourself and your lover here for that romantic little Sunday outing, you might as well go to sleep. It's a good place to sleep. It's a good place to play. It's a good place to experience a great Brisbane icon, New Farm Park. read more

I'm not sure there's any park in Brisbane better than New Farm Park. With its huge trees perfect for climbing (which I still do), location right on the river, fantastic kids playground I remember enjoying immensely once upon a time, heaps of space to spread out so you are guaranteed peace no matter how busy it is and plenty of great places to eat or drink a stone's throw away; how could it be any better? It's also a haven for personal trainers; somehow watching other people sweat it out while I laze about on my blanket makes it even more relaxing. I had a wonderful birthday celebration here. We caught the ferry from South Bank right to the park - a very enjoyable past time itself, walked to New Farm Deli for some delicious lunch and made our way back to the park to enjoy it. A wonderful way to help me come to terms with my scary new age. read more

It's funny how an almost empty space can delight and inspire so many people, yet that's what New Farm Park does for so many Brisbane locals and visitors alike. It's one of those places that is both ageless and appeals to all age groups. For kids it's a dreamland where they can chase after balls, pets, and frisbees, and, if their parents allow, immerse themselves in the tangle of tree limbs at their disposal. But there is also magic for older visitors too. Grumbling adolescents and time-poor adults find so much joy in New Farm Park picnics or barbeques because the setting is one of the best Brisbane has to offer. I guess that's why so many couples like to have their wedding photos taken in New Farm Park too; the environment is a little bit magical. It's so simple with its historical trees and endless stretches of green lawns. Just beyond the park is the Powerhouse, and New Farm Park is the perfect place for any event or celebration. When I was in high school, my friends and I used to love coming to new Farm Park and acting far too ridiculous swinging on the swing sets and having picnics. More recently, I delighted in participating in my brother's wedding photos there. It literally is the best setting for so many different things from something as elaborate as a wedding to something as simple as reading a book - and the latter is particularly wonderful on a bench overlooking the river. "This Sunday, New Farm Park @11...C U ther!" This is what I often text, or what is often texted to me on a Wednesday afternoon. Wednesday, AKA Hump Day, is a difficult day to get through, you just need something to look forward to in order to survive the seemingly longest day of the week. So, my Lazy Sundays are often booked for a day out at New Farm Park with my friends. Now that it's Summer in Brisbane, it's time to get that picnic rug, the basket full of goodies and possibly an umbrella (Ah Brissy Summer Rain!). But on clear days, this park truly outbids the rest. New Farm Park lines the Brisbane River and you can get glimpses of the city skyline over the trees at night. It's the best place for picnics and riding your bike. If you do want to get a table at this park on the weekend, you do have to make sure someone reserves one early in the morning, as getting a table along the Brisbane River is the hottest ticket going. On a number of occasions, we'd drive past at 9am to get a table and almost every time the tables each have a person standing idly by reading a book or the paper with an assortment of picnic needs scattered around to claim space. On lucky days, I'm one of them. If we drive by and we spot an empty one, I grab as much as I could, slam the car door behind me and run for my life to get that last table by the river. As I settle my things on the table and look around, I suddenly smirk, then the theme song to Rocky plays in my head. In this moment, I feel like a champion. This park is always full of families, often celebrating birthdays. Here, people ride bikes, rollerblade past, go for walk along the river and just enjoy the day hanging out enjoy the Brissy sun. My favourite thing about great parks is how democratic they are. New Farm Park is located in one of Brisbane's most expensive suburbs, however its public transport acess (by bus or ferry) and wealth of facilities means you'll see people from all creeds enjoying time there. It's not uncommon to see a group of cool young adults listening to tunes and having a few beers next to a family flying kites, while behind them a young couple gets married in the heritage listed rotunda. The park did suffer during the extended drought, and there are safety fences around a lot of the trees now due to concerns about shallow root systems, however there's still plenty of shade and great riverside places to have a picnic. So drop in, smell the roses (who doesn't love a rose garden) and take advantage of this inner city oasis. read more

The shrieks of delight coming from the children as they run through the timber playground built into the roots of the massive fig trees or the loud 'ROAARRR!' as one jumps out of a dinosaur egg always puts a smile on my face. Not only does this park delight adults but the kiddies love it too! Acres and acres of lush green grass just to run and run and run. Climbing webs, swings, monkey bars and slides - enough fun to keep them entertained for hours and hours... Of course no family day out at New Farm Park is complete without the retro cane picnic basket full of baked goods and green cordial and a big soft blanket sprawled out under the shade of a gigantic fig tree! One of my favourite things to do on a weekend, and best of all - it's free! read more

It is not a surprise to me that New Farm Park has already received so many positive reviews, it really is a picturesque park that is perfect for any group of people wishing to relax or play. Ever want to organise an even on the cheap? Have a BBQ at New Farm park. Wanna play a quick game of soccer? Find a clear spot in the park. Have a hot date? Have a picnic in one of the many shaded areas. Anyway, you get the point. It is also a very spacious park with different little spots, there is a garden area with lots of pretty flowers, a kids play ground area and a lot of flat surfaces. It always look immaculate- the grass if always green and you hardly ever find litter floating around. I honestly do not know who could hate this park. New Farm Park truly is Brisbane's favourite park. Going there on a weekend reminds me of places like Central Park in New York or Hyde Park in London where a whole city gathers to picnic, play soccer or frisbee, walk their dogs, or just sit on a bench and read. New Farm Park really conveys that sense of communal recreation and I think that's something very special. It has a wonderful and large playground area for kids, rose gardens to stroll through, shady trees to sit under, open space to play games in, shady grass by the river to picnic on, a storybook gazebo to admire, and a riverside bike path that catches the breeze from the water. With it's iconic jacaranda trees and green lamp-posts, New Farm Park is a sight to behold. Neighboured on one side by a City Cat terminal and on the other by the Powerhouse precinct, it's easy to access and an ideal place to relax after the Powerhouse markets or a show. New Farm Park holds part of the soul of Brisbane within it's winding borders, and all you have to do is go there to see how loved it is. read more
