I live 90 mins away, but I have always gone to MSJ when in the Stroudsburg area visiting relatives…read more I started going in the 90s when the store was in a slightly different location on Main Street. It's a great store, with a very nice longtime owner, a helpful and friendly staff, and it has a relaxed atmosphere. MSJ is in a good neighborhood for lunch. They avoid all the mistakes that many other record stores make. I am speaking, of course of snotty, snobby, easily triggered owners/salespeople, or racks of lps too jammed or unpriced "bring to the counter for price"albums, etc. The records here are priced clearly and fairly, in my opinion*. *If you haven't shopped for records in recent years.. the demand for records has gone up drastically in recent years, and prices have gone up accordingly everywhere. You will not find 2008 (or 1974) prices on records in 2025. Especially on original pressings of the big classic rock albums by the top bands still played on the radio. I feel these guys are pretty fair, especially if you compare shopping at a store vs. shopping online, where you have to pay extra for shipping and really have nothing more than a vague hope that the LP will arrive in the stated condition. That aside. and back to the review... The more expensive items have sealed flaps, but you can open and inspect the vinyl at the counter. Less expensive records can be inspected at the rack if you do so carefully (i.e., not accidentally flinging the record across the store or getting yer greasy fingerprints 'em). Note: Record swapping will get you banned, you delinquents ;) - so don't be that person. Also, drinks are a no-no for understandable reasons. MSJ has tons of great vinyl in vg'+ or better condish. Rock is broken down alphabetically in various sections by price: $10 and up, $5, etc. There are boxes underneath these lp racks, but they request you get an employees help to access them. I never have time to crate dig, but I aspire to one day. I pick up a lot of records each visit, with very few exceptions (over 30 yrs) the albums and cds I've purchased have always been in VG+ or better, clean, etc. I have often traded in albums for store credit, and they are reasonable if you bring in decent records in nice condition that are not super common. I can't speak to how well they cover other genres since I mostly concentrate on rock - but there's a good amount of other stuff to peruse. If you go, I hope you find that gem you are looking for!

Scott took a quick look and didn't see anything glaring besides a small missing cork, but said he'd examine it to be sure. We had a really nice conversation during the visit about everything from synthetic reeds to pianos and piano tuners, as both my husband and I had lots of questions (both being musical and having recently relocated to the Lehigh Valley). My clarinet was ready just a few days later, and when I picked it up, it was sparkling clean and had a new cork pad installed to replace the lost one. In addition, my mouthpiece had a mouthpiece saver applied (which i desperately need as i tend to bite way too hard) and a synthetic reed included for me to try. To my surprise, there was no charge for the service or any of the bonus items! What an all-around wonderful experience. I will definitely be back for all my accessories and repair needs going forward, and will highly recommend Nazareth Music Center to all my musical friends. Thank you so much!

I have never heard a bad word about this place and I've spoken to many students who have taken guitar and drum lessons there. I'm sure they also teach other instruments. What a fantastic place for those who love to create music. If you want lessons or care for your…read moreinstrument, Fretz can help you out. The main draw for me, however, is the print music. I would often go to Fretz's as a younger Pooh and gaze at the rows upon rows of books and sheets, rifling through the sections to find what I wanted-- or maybe just to marvel at the impossibly complex advanced works. Fretz's is where I got my Schirmer Edition of Chopin's Nocturnes. After hearing Op9 No1, I resolved that I would learn to play it and that pale yellow book was the catalyst for my love of the art form. I still have that book and despite it's frail condition at this point, I consider it one of my most valuable possessions. Fretz's has more than classical music, though; in fact, probably less than half of their stock is classical. I remember getting copies of Joplin's Maple Leaf Rag, the Forrest Gump theme song, and Billy Joel's Greatest Hits at Fretz's. So whether you enjoy playing jazz, popular, contemporary, and whether you enjoy playing it on guitar, keyboard, or trumpet, chances are they'll be able to help you out. The parking situation can be rough, as Fretz's has a tiny lot that mates up in short order to a very busy route. But when you're dying to get your hands on that book of Beethoven's Sonatas, a little-- errr, a lot of traffic isn't going to deter you.
