I saw a…read morecouple of other psychiatrists before I found Dr. Madkaiker and when I saw him for my first visit, I knew he was the doctor for me. Like most psychiatrists, appointments are not very long. They are not therapists; they are there to manage your medications. Dr. Madkaiker has been very good to me. When I first started seeing him, I had been on the same medications for many years and they had been working great. He listened to me and actually believed me and that I knew about my body and he kept me on the same meds. Many other new doctors want to start changing meds around. I'm of the mindset of "if it's not broke, don't fix it." When I had cancer and had to have a kidney removed, I had no choice but to finally get off one medication that was helping me the most because it would have interfered with my kidney function and I only have the one left. He took me down off that medication and then introduced a new medication. The new medication he chose doesn't work quite as well as the other one (but we knew it wouldn't), but it does work pretty darn well. He always listens at each visit and he makes suggestions and allows me to choose my treatment with him. It really makes me feel like I have a say in what is happening with my mind and body. Telehealth appointments! Yes! I'm all about those! His front office staff is phenomenal! Tommy works the front office and I absolutely love him! He's usually the one who calls me and I'm always thrilled when he answers the phone! I like the other people in the front office too, but I just feel Tommy has made a point to get to know me and I enjoy talking with him. I love the fact that after Telehealth appointments, they always call me within half an hour or so to make my next appointment. Major points for that because I would totally forget! If you are in need of a psychiatrist, I highly recommend Dr. Madkaiker. I've been seeing shrinks since 1987 and he is one of the best I have ever seen!! Wheelchair and service dog friendly!

I understand things don't just magically become better in one's life after meeting with a therapist only a couple of times, but it is not about that. My issue is that I'm both sessions, she did not provide any direction for me, she didn't really seem that interested in my issues, and didn't ask any probing questions to try and really help me. Basically, both times was a meet up and me tell her what's going on, for her to then ask me how I wanted her to help me. I don't really understand how a professional like her would ask me, the patient, how best could she help me - that is why I'm coming to you - you are the professional here, so give me some guidance. Perhaps this style is better for some people more than others, they may be okay with paying to go vent and lead themselves, but I found myself feeling more lost after both appointments. Nevertheless, I planned on giving it a shot one more time, and she had scheduled me for a specific date and time. I received the confirmation email back in December, so thought I was good to go for February. Then, I receive what felt like a very left-field and rude email directly from her. She told me the following " Please confirm that Feb 4th at 5:30pm works for you, or I will need to open this time slot." This email caught me off guard and felt a bit threatening as if I had been non-responsive. I responded back and told her that the email felt a bit aggressive, so I would like to cancel and not reschedule at this time. Her response was then " OK probably because I tend to be factual in emails. I will cancel." Again, seems to be an unprofessional response. My immediate reaction was wanting to respond back to her and let her know that just because you're being factual, you definitely don't have to be rude. I was factual in my email to her and was not rude. She is in the field of behavioral health, yet her own behavior doesn't really reflect that. You can be factual and word things in a way that is nice. This is an email, not a session where someone needs a dose of factual reality. Just really rubbed me the wrong way (in combination with other things), so I won't be returning to this messy office.
