I am going to share part…read moreof one of my most traumatizing moments- I was 12, something very bad happened to me and I ran away from home and called a runaway hotline for help. I told them that there was abuse in my household, drugs, alcohol- it was a bad situation. I held onto what had happened to me, afraid to say it out loud. I asked to speak to my Aunt. They told me she wanted to pick me up, to speak in person, so I gave the address of where I was. They lied to me- the man that raised me was waiting outside, my abuser. I remember opening the door and having fear grip me. I got into the car and he hit me several times and then held a gun to my head and threatened to kill everyone I loved if I ever spoke of what happened to me. ***Now- this treatment literally helped me disconnect the gripping fear that this memory invoked. Let me say that again- I went from crying while telling this story to feeling like the image of him standing against the car was just an old picture, in a matter of minutes. Completely disconnected. Even now, typing this would probably have me in tears- in fear and I am fine. I know several people who have been in therapy most of their life- that's insane to me. Obviously treatment isn't working if you have to keep going for decades. I've done therapy before and it was nothing like this. This treatment has been around for 30 years It has the scientific backing and it is widely unknown! EMDR- do research if you have severe traumas that affect your life. With the pain came opiate medication and a corresponding new addiction. I was unable to work in the field I went to college and graduate school for. I had stopped doing all the the things that brought me joy. I spent probably 95% of my life in my room. Naomi greeted me without a hint of judgement. At the time, I couldn't even imagine being happy. I had made the professional work I did my identity, and that was gone. Today I'm engaged in my life again. I do fun stuff. I like myself a little more And I haven't had drink in 4 years. If you schedule and then ask to reschedule appointments outside the 24 hour window for…read morecancellation, i.e. you call them two days before--and explain that your agoraphobia is currently keeping you housebound, or your car breaks down, or the state of mental health care in NE Florida is a mess and you live two hours out and you are unable to get there for whatever reason? They will allow this three times and then the receptionist will tell you *never to call back*. They will never accept any reason or problem. People with mental health issues are quite capable of having some real difficulties, after all, but you know, apparently we're just wasting their time. So get lost. I think that it's unprofessional and frankly, grotesque. I'm not talking about cancellation, I'm not talking about rescheduling on the day of the appointment. Just a request to reschedule. I have never experienced anything like this in thirty years of accessing care, even in the initial stages of care. Oh yeah--it was during covid, too. Too freaked out to show up, germaphobe? Too bad, don't bug us again. Just unbelievable.

She reached out to me on a social basis about 2 months ago as we both went to the same h.s. last ime I saw her in person was '76.She at first just posted political memes which were fine to like or dislike.Never wanted a long walk down memory lane but she even gave me her home phone so I suppose she wanted to chat fine like h.s.pals.I'm way beyond that so I didn't follow that path with her.Fond issuesw/her when she switched over to counselor mode.I did not ask for her advice but she continued with statements of a low level psychology I would call new age or pre-teen.As I said w/out hiding what my relationships and life in general and challenges have been since last saw her and we both studied psychology I thought doing so would be appropriate.I told her I had been on therapy for decades my diagnosis and received Permanant Federal Disability due to mental illness diagnosises on 2010.She got more than she was looking gor as she responded with that's alot.Kind of taken aback as she was working in the field of Psychology and since she has decidecd to treat me as a patient instead a friend I let it go.I had many good to grear therapists and Psychiatrists who worked in the end to get me disability and my SS early.Mary C.Bird is not on the same level.If you are looking for someone to b. about your parents or boyfriends I guess she would be ok.But if you are looking for Serious therapist who is not afraid,her off putting comments to me proved she hasn't dealt w/her own psychological sh*t.If you want someone dealing into the origins of your illnesses, get you a proper diagnosis like we were or I at least was taught in Psychopathology class,acc.to the DSM and meds. if necessary and speaking to you in a respectful manner someone like both of us at 73 would expect then don't go to her. Marriage counseling doesn't need to wait and I appreciate him for seeing us so fast. I called other places but there was a week or more wait. Which seems insane to me considering you don't go to a therapist because everything is awesome. David uses the Gottman method to help you through everything. The Gottman method consists of 5 parts. -Assessment -Treatment -Phasing out of therapy -Termination -Outcome You can read all about it on his website. He doesn't pick sides which is why I like him. I like talking to him. I feel comfortable and he is very kind. I feel like I can trust him to help us. He takes BCBS which is awesome. He doesn't just do marriage counseling he also sees individuals for other reasons like Depression, Anexiety, and many other things. He is very reasonably priced compared to other therapists. I'm looking forward to more sessions with David and I know he will shed some light on our issues and help us work through our differences. If you are looking for someone to help you, he is your guy.
