Teen Challenge was the third out of home placement for our daughter, who struggled for years with rage from Reactive Attachment Disorder. After two failed placements and numerous unsuccessful methods, therapies and medications, our main goal was to keep her safe, at least until age 18. After a nationwide search with phone interviews we were drawn to Teen Challenge of Oklahoma. We believed that their program, which is based on the love and the transforming power of God, was her best hope. In fact, it seemed to be our only hope. For the first six months we saw little change and had mostly hostile interactions with our daughter. We responded by continuing to pray. By the seventh month we began to see a dramatic change, and we continue to be amazed by how God is transforming and healing our daughter's heart. She has grown to love God, love the Teen Challenge program, and wants to stay on longer to finish high school and the program. We have been inspired and humbled by the deep faith and the selfless dedication of the staff. They provide a lot of structure with loving discipline, and we have found that they do exactly what they say they will do. Truly, Teen Challenge changed our daughter's life forever, and we will always be grateful for their team. With God's guidance and power, they succeeded when others did not. Do not send your child here. I was in Teen challenge in 2022 and 2023. I wish I could even begin to describe to torment I went through here. I got injured in the program, and was not taken seriously by staff until it was too late and I required surgery. I was also threatened by one of the directors. And I also confirmed the threat with a staff member who no longer works there. Nobody should be threatened to get the living daylights beat out of them. You also cannot be part of any other religion. You are forced to be Christian. I saw students of other religions get their needs denied because the program doesn't respect their religion. D-level diet, is not enough food for people, even if the program claims it's still following FDA. Also the program claims to be "non-discriminatory" but this is not true. If you were transgender or gay you couldn't be anymore. That in itself is discrimination. The way they restrain students is wrong aswell. Some staff will sit on you. A students wrist was injured do to a restraint. I can't speak for everyone, but this program left me with severe trauma and I suggest to anyone who is considering this program to stop considering. read more

It's humbling to sit here and even need to write a review for a place like this. Not because of them but because our family had this type of need. Just over a year ago we were quickly losing our 15 year old daughter to the world of anger, hatred, division, depression, anxiety and just plain evil. We could see the life leaving her eyes. We needed help that was not going to happen within the walls of our own home. We found New Lifehouse on a Thursday and made a call to inquire. On Friday morning we drove out of state to take a tour. It wasn't our first facility to tour. The drive there was... interesting. It's definitely "out in the middle of nowhere". But when we got there, we felt the Lord's presence. There was land and a wonderful little animal oasis next door. We were desperate and scared for our girl and scared that we were making the right decision to drive her out of state and leave her with people we didn't know. On that next Tuesday we did the hardest thing we've ever done as parents and took our daughter there... and left. What an emotional, horrible, relieving thing to do. Today, 13 months later, we brought our 16 year old home for good. The amount of love that was poured into her over these past months was evident in them all. Tears and hugs and most importantly, a transformed young lady that is now filled with joy and contentment. The road was hard and there were definitely times our fear raised up. But we chose to trust the Lord and stay the course. At first she told them all about how horrible we were. Then it switched to telling us how horrible they were. But then once she realized she was going to have to do the work and could not get out of it, she did just that. She committed to doing the work, the hard work of facing her own fears, her own hurts, her own actions that caused so much hardship. She also grew in her faith and her surrender to the Lord. I remember asking about if becoming a Christian was a requirement for graduation and we were assured it was not. But they were going to speak truth and life over her and that is most definitely what happened. I've read some poor reviews here about the boys that are there. I remember being told the girls wouldn't even know the boys were there. That was not true but it was never really an issue for us. The boys and girls do school in the same building but don't really spend time together. However, there are times they will be around each other such as mission trips, church, etc. There are also comments about there not being therapists at NLH. That is also true. The places we looked at that had licensed therapists were almost 3 times the price. So we had to weigh the options. For us, this option was the best. If you are thinking of sending your daughter here, first and foremost, pray. And if you feel lead to it, the best thing you can do is help your daughter stick it out. Once our daughter truly committed is when the real work began and she was so proud of herself for finishing strong. Our kids need to do hard things and feel victorious. My husband and I would highly recommend this place for girls that need structure, truth and love. read more

New Lifehouse truly did for our 16 year old daughter what it's name implies; she was given a new life. Her old life was full of depression, insecurity and sadness. After completing the program in 14 months, she was reconciled with our family and is now full of hope, joy and healthy coping skills. She has learned to see herself as God sees her. Several months after finishing the program, she is a walking testimony to the transformation Teen Challenge can bring. In fact, she is so grateful for her new life that she has asked me to encourage some of her struggling friends' moms to send them to the program so they can get the help they need! It was been a year since our daughter came home from the program, after spending sixteen months there. I almost deducted a star for education, which I think it a bit lacking, They use a quality curriculum, which is self-paced and mastery based, however it took our daughter, who was a straight A student, 16 months to finish one Semester of Algrebra because there was no one on staff who could tutor her when she needed extra help. With that said, if you are considering New Lifehouse Academy, a good education is the least of your worries. As it was the least of ours. We just wanted an intense therapeutic environment where our daughter wouldn't be miserable spending a year or more of her life in. We wanted her to have an opportunity to interact with animals, since they are her passion. And we wanted her to have a chance to heal and grow as a young lady. Our daughter struggled with aggressive behaviors and attachment issues resulting from years in foster care and prior abuse. When her therapist recommended long-term 24/7 therapeutic care, she was only 14. She turned 16 a few months after coming home. Since then, our daughter has had ZERO aggression issues. Her impulse control has been amazing. She is a Straight A student again. She is working her first job. Our friends tell us she is the most polite kid they've ever met. And most of all, we have managed too successfully bond as a family in a way we never did when we adopted her. But if you're like me, you want to know what your kid can expect. So here goes. This place is no frills. And I mean, other than the wide open spaces and exotic animal sanctuary next door, it's utterly frill-less. And many of the basics could use some serious updating. It's religious. Hands-in-the-air-to-pray religious. The program is based on the premise that Jesus cures all, and through studying and applying biblical teachings to our daily lives, all things are possible. Even recovery. The program is highly regimented, largely one-size-fits-all level and privilege system, though they do individualized counseling and equine therapy on a weekly basis. As restrictive as the program is for the students, it is also restrictive for the family. We were only permitted three ten minute windows to speak to our daughter. If we missed it, we had to wait until the next window, no exceptions. The kids live full and active lives. In the sixteen months my daughter was there, she got to interact with a menagerie of animals, sing Happy Birthday and eat cake and pizza once or twice a month, play on the volleyball and basketball teams, help out with fireworks stands and fall festivals, go to a Christian music concert, and even volunteer on her first mission trip. The staff is coming from a place of generosity, service and faith, not always therapeutic knowledge.. Many are even graduates of the program. Our daughter liked them all very much. It is an all girls school., but the boys get bussed in for services, sports and special events. They are not even allowed to LOOK at a girl. It's a versatile program. Other girls struggled with alcohol and drug use, cutting, stealing, and risky promiscuity. There were a LOT of adopted kiddos there like our daughter. I would absolutely recommend New Lifehouse to any parent whose struggling teen thrives in structured environments and who doesn't mind going to church every Sunday or singing a lot of Christian song around campfires at night. read more

Please do not send your child here. There are other options. They are deceiving and harm more than they help. So many of the kids go home with trauma from abusive staff and practices here. I have known multiple "students" to get sexually abused, and almost all of the kids are emotionally abused by untrained staff. They often do not provide any mental health care, and have been known to restrict access to medical care. Take time to research the troubled teen industry and #breakingcodesilence before you consider an institution such as this one. It is NOT a school, and they do not provide any evidence-based rehabilitation. Don't just take their word for it, listen to the kids who have been there or similar places. Regardless of if some of the staff have good intentions, they aren't capable of whatever it is they are attempting, or should be, with their current methods/ resources. read more

I went to teen challenge in Oklahoma back when I was 14. It was a horrible experience. I feel very bad for young girls who go their unwillingly. I was not a bad kid but was treated like a murderer. They forced you to memorize chapters of the bible just to get a chance to maybe get to talk to your parents sometime. If you accidentally bumped into another girl you were punished with numerous sentences because you touched another girl there. If you didn't want to eat your dinner one night you were forced to write sentences. If you did any natural thing wrong in their eyes they would make you sit and write hundreds of sentences. Then they try to tell you it's God's love and his way because you need disciplined. It was the worst I've ever been treated in my whole life. I'm now 28, doing well with my life and I'm very happy I got out of that prison. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I honestly believe going to jail or juvenile would be better for the child. Mainly because at teen challenge they mess with you psychologically. They try to force you to be a Christian and if you refuse they punish you. That is very wrong. I love God and worship him, but going to teen challenge made be bitter for years. Looking back now I see how wrongly they treat kids under age. The staff overseeing me had no special training to treat kids with problems. They were women about 21 years old themselves. Sometimes they would come to work after partying all night then try and tell the young women how to live their lives. Their is a documentary on netflix everyone needs to watch called, Kidnapped For Christ. It will show you how these types of places treat kids under 18. After watching the documentary I learned there is NO state regulations on these types of facilities. Meaning the staff can treat you however they think it right, all because your parents signed papers saying they can. That is so wrong. Especially because the people that run it do not have the training to help troubled teens. Just because you claim to be a Christian does not mean you have the knowledge to help treat kids with deep rooted issues. PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR UNDER AGE TEENS HERE. It will damage them for years and years. It did me. I'm a good person with a good job, and when I went there I wasn't even a bad kid just a little rowdy. My parents caught me with cigarettes and caught me skipping school once and I was banished to teen challenge in Oklahoma for 2 to 4 years. Luckily my father got me out sooner. I seriously believe a non religious place would be a better place for troubled teens because then they wouldn't be so confused to why thei receiving so much discipline and believing this is how God shows his love. Not once were they loving or caring or understanding. A few times I tried to talk about how I was feeling and I was punished and forced to write sentences for speaking in an inappropriate manner.They had a lap yard where we had to do laps everyday outside and I remember seeing cars drive by and I would just think. "Help me". You literally could not do anything right and we're punished for breathing wrong. This kind of treatment is good for no one. However I have heard good things about the adult teen challenges that people admit themselves too and I have heard how they can help people get clean from drugs and I'm not against them. But the one I went to was completely different and I hope people can see that. read more

Teen Challenge has miraculously changed my niece's life. When we thought there was no hope left, they came to the rescue, along with God's help too. She has become so kind and loving and aware of life. We are so grateful for this program. I completed New Life House Teen Challenge in March, 2021. I'll admit it was extremely painful at first, both for me and my family. As time went on I saw God continue to work in and through me. Eventually I was able to learn some awesome skills by helping out in the office! Even though the program is difficult, there are loving staff to help you along the way (even if they don't seem loving at the time!) I would recommend this school to anyone with a struggling teen. My husband and I took a tour of the facility for our daughter this weekend. First of all, they claim to be an all girls facility however there is a boys facility that also uses the facilities gym, school, etc. We were told that the girls and boys are kept separate....oh but except at church on Sundays, girls sit behind boys, oh and then the events/fundraisers that they have together to raise money for the facilities. The administrator was unable to answer questions clearly or provide comfort to us to leave our daughter at this facility, i.e. no alarm system, multiple girls attempting to run ("it's a small town and they know about facility so they call when girls are found around town, one took 5 hours to locate"). Facility seems disorganized, working on implementing changes, don't have things in place yet, do not having a full-time LICENSED counselor on staff. Ultimately what broke the camels back for us was when we were leaving the facility, from outside we heard a male voice SCREAMING at the top of his lungs profanities and belittling another individual. This continued as we got in our car to get out of there. This is supposed to be a Christian based facility and the girls were just in the next room (in the gym) and they knew they had visitors on the property. Girls come to this location who have problems, some with have been abused and need help from a caring, structured environment. They should not come to a facility to have to endure abuse from staff. My husband and I are grateful that we have chosen to tour these facilities. If they knew that we were there and this occurred just think about what could happen if we weren't there. read more

I wish I could give this negative stars. I was a student for six months at this Jesus bubble. There are no licensed therapists there, they use the staff as therapists. It felt like the staff didn't care. There are so many rules it feels like you cannot do anything. They make it seem like everyone is so happy and smiling on their Facebook but in reality everyone's just trying to leave. they didn't even discuss any issues that I had. with the school I didn't get any help in algebra. I don't like the way they functioned and operated , it was very disorganized and they lost all of my makeup. They basically force religion on you and you have to comply or they take away all of your privilege's. they had this think called d-level and you had the eat the same three meals everyday, sit on the floor, no hair conditioner, and no salt and pepper for 4 weeks. I could not plan for the for the future or talk about it because it could trigger other girls to leave too. I got kicked out for not doing anything because I was almost eighteen years old and I was just waiting out my time. I feel like a lot of the kids fake it just to make it .this place is a waste of time and a scam. It taught me to avoid my problems instead of concur them. whenever there was a boy from the boys side we had to look the other way. we had to call the boys the others. it was very cultish. -FF read more

My daughter attended New Life House for 18 months. She graduated high-school with 15 college credit hours. By far it was the best decision we ever made in steering my daughter off the path of self destruction. She is well on her way to being an asset to society. This place brainwashes young women. They do this with a point and hierarchy system. If you are good and comply you will have more privileges so of course you are going to have to give up and comply at one point, being there for a year and not being able to leave, its human nature. They deprive people of their human wants forcing you to submit to their control. Do NOT send your children here. read more

Please do not recommend Teen Challenge of OK. They gave up on my Daughter in less than 7 days. And gave back just the education fee. We paid 3800.00 and they gave back just $1000.00 for just 7 days for treatment. We pick them because they told us they handled stuff cases with ODD/ OCD and eating disorders. We did not sugar quote anything she did, we told them everything and also gave them permission to call her therapist she was currently working with. After we dropped her off Sept 6, we got a call that she was not eating and Drinking and were told, that they were taking she to the emergency room. ( They knew she was getting food and water, but for health reasons and defiance reasons they wanted to not let her get away with anything ) So on Friday they took her to the emergency room and told us they were looking to get her a 72 hour hold (5150) and they told us she could do this all year long and for us not to worry. And the next day I was called and told she was being released from the program and put on a plane. ( We had asked them before we picked them, how could she be released for the program and were told if her hurt another children and that has only happen once) What they said " because she was not eating or drinking" they were worried about her health and released her . Fact: the doctor released her saying she was not malnourished or dehydrated. Fact they released her on a Saturday( no way for family to get other plans in place insurance company closed on the weekend. Fact: the director did not call us herself the weekend guy director called Fact we had never was given any heads up or concerns before. They told us on Saturday and put her on a plane within 2 hours . On Friday we were told all was fine. Fact United airline did not want to put her on the place without a doctor note with a ok to travel. Fact : they rebooked under a difference booking and did not tell the airline that child was endanger to herself ( The endanger was given to us as the reason they were no long keeping her in the program) Fact: They refused to give us back any money at all we had to call Mr. Grey CEO of OK teen challenge to get $1000.00 back the education money Fact: her therapist at the Ranch was not even aware she was being released. We called her in a panic thinking this weekend guy was over his head and since the Blankenship's would not call us back. They release our daughter without even a meeting or a warning. Just "she is done with the program send her home Fact: She did not hurt anyone Reasons not to use them We told them to call and speak to all her therapist to get the full picture. If they had done that, they should have declined her in the program understanding that she was a very hard case and needed a lot. ( We had asked them if she need more mental therapy would she be able to get it. And they said yes, we would just need to pay for the drive to the office visit and back. We spent over 1000.00 to get her packed and driven to the OK. 3800.00 was the deposit and got back 1000.00. If we had known they were not equipped to handle her we would have never used them and would have kept looking. They do not understand eating disorders at all. They take on mild cases not major. ( we have been in and out of three eating disorders places in less than 1 year. They just took our money and said sorry the rest is non-refundable. I highly recommend New Life House Teen Challenge. My 17 year old daughter was struggling with depression and cutting. After going to several mental institutions with her, we felt that they just medicated her instead of finding the root of the depression. We didn't know what else to do with her and that is when I mentioned Teen Challenge to my youth pastor. I asked if he could see if we could get her in the program. He made some calls and we found out that a bed was available within the next couple of weeks. We prayed and prayed about it and God completely opened doors to get her in. It was a miracle for us how this all came together. She is doing great in the program and we see big changes in her and we know God has changed her life. She is getting good grades at the school there and will graduate this year! She plays basketball for the first time ever. She is in leadership there and she is letting God handle her problems now.
