You could spend most of a day here, no problem. There's a ton of high end stuff but also a fair amount of reasonably priced things that are easy to bring home - vintage linens, silver flatware, books, jewelry and much more. Now, these are experienced dealers so you're not going to get a real Chanel bag for $100 but I did think many of the prices were affordable. There's a epic poster shop, a fun dead stock store (Tombee Des Camions) and too many more to mention.

I have been frequenting Marche Vernaison and the surrounding other Flea Markets at St Ouen for…read moreyears. There are several all in the same area and they are open to the public on weekends. One can literally spent the entire day shopping and looking. It really is a mind blowing experience. Everything from the funky to the serious antiques. Looking for something weird and odd? You will find it. Looking for a dining table from 1600? You will find it. Marche Vernaison has a bit of everything but more of the funky odd items than the other Marche's close by. If it is your first time going and you plan to go by the Metro please heed my advise. You will get off at the Porte de Clingancourt Metro Stop. When you exit you will see a Flea Market off on the left side of the street with tents and such and will most likely think this is where it starts. WRONG! Yes there is a flea market there but it is a bit sketchy. It has t shirts, cheap sunglasses, knock off bags, junk like that. I made the mistake of going in there the first time I went and immediately wanted to get out but then had to go through it to get out and ended up having my Gucci sunglasses pick pocketed from my person. It is not the Flea market you are looking for. My advise is when leaving the Metro stay on the right hand side of the street and continue past the underpass. These days there is a bit of the sketchy stuff that appears on that side of the street as well but it is easier to traverse and then after the underpass you will see the Marche Vernaison on the left. Cross at that intersection. Marche Vernaison and the other Flea Markets at St. Ouen are not the only flea markets in Paris if you are really into that thing but it is really an amazing and mind blowing experience you shouldn't miss when in Paris.

Super interesting antique shopping…read more Located just at the north edge of Paris in Saint-Ouen, this area is one of many market areas. This was probably the nicest of all- large covered areas, clean, smooth walkways, clean restrooms and a couple of cafes. Most stores here are selling high end antique furniture. Beautiful pieces, many look new. Other shops carried vintage high fashion that would make a girl cry. Then there were the shops that sold the small antique household items. On the weekend around the backside, locals set up small tables and create their own flea market area. Be warned, prices inside and still seem very high. But the furnishings were absolutely gorgeous. Worth spending a couple of hours to experience a different part of Paris.

Indoor/outdoor flea market. Upon arrival you'll see merchant stalls on the exterior of the market…read morethat sell cheap clothing, knockoff brands, etc. This will be a major disappointment but inside the market are proper antique/vintage stalls selling better quality items at inflated prices. Across the road are at least three more flea markets which are fun to walk around and interesting. Lots of silver, china, antique fabrics/clothing, rugs, furniture, art and tons more. I did not buy a thing as it's all expensive and would be very difficult to bring/send back to the states.

It's huge - several blocks, with more than a dozen markets, independent shops and more casual table top vendors. Do some research ahead of time so you know where to start because it can be overwhelming. There are plenty of quick cafes and places to grab a bite. Here's what I found: Paul Bert/Serpette - high end, mostly furniture. Some high end vintage clothing here too. Marche Biron - middle of the road with lots of furniture and artwork. Marche Dauphine - for the cool kids. Art, vintage clothes, records and some book/print dealers. Marche Vernaison - a maze of more than 100 dealers. This is the best place to find smaller, reasonably priced things to bring home. I enjoyed this market the most. Overall - if you have time and are willing to make a big of a trip, this can be super fun. The metro is an option but the 85 bus drops you right in the market and saves you dealing with the sketch "thieves market" between this and the Metro.

Left with jean shorts and a raglan long sleeved T for 32 Euro. Her prices are extremely good. Neat and clean store. Highly recommend!! Bordeaux, St Emilion, Tuscany....we bought many bottles of wine on our latest European trip!! In…read moreour excitement (or drunken state) we forgot we needed to actually transport these bottles some of the wineries didn't pack up for us back home, safely. I just had this image of picking up my bag at baggage claim with red wine, truffle oil and Prosecco dripping from it. Ugh!! Wasn't going to let that happen. I turned to Yelp and searched 'packing supplies. I luckily came across Cartonland... Went in with the intention of purchasing all the bubble wrap they had. Much to my surprise, the owner, a kind gentleman who spoke English pretty well asked what I was wrapping and showed me this amazing, excellent quality wine carrier that holds 6 bottles for under €10. Sold! It was sturdy and he was so sweet helping me not only assemble it, but let me come back from my car with wine in tact, and sealed it for me professionally! What a lifesaver!! Plus, the carrier was made from 100% recycled materials! An added bonus! As a former small business owner, this place was so much fun and had my creative juices flowing. They had lots of cool, colored shopping bags, ones they can even print labels and logos on! Cartonland seems like a great find for businesses of all sizes, as well as for the average person just trying to ship a gift. They do have some other fun goods such as a plastic type wine bag that would take the place of a wine bucket for holding the bottles surrounded by ice when picnicking and such. Cool! What a great find! What a nice owner! Easy parking out front too!

Despite its self explicit name, for the life of me I can never remember what this veritable haven…read moreof boxes, bags and bubble wrap is called when I try to look it up. Which is why I had to just go there recently to find out whether or not they carried brown paper bags in bulk. Luckily, they did, and in a very big way! Not only did they have what I was looking for, they carried them in five different sizes, a dozen different colors and with two types of handles. Score!! The prices seem totally correct. I paid 25E (HT) for 250 paper bags. If I were a little more serious about my bags, I could have had them custom ordered with a logo or signature printed on them too (the min order for that though is 3000 and it takes 3 weeks for delivery). You can also find all sorts of other packing and handling essentials there as well, like moving boxes, clothing storage boxes, bubble wrap, eco-friendly plastic bags, wine bottle bags, etc. They also have a old school hand-written billing system and a no-frills display that screams 100% authenticity. Plus the owner is really friendly too.

There is so much to see here. If you were between 20-35 years old and lived in Paris and didn't have a ton of $ but had some and wanted to buy a few pieces of cool furniture to make your apartment look interesting, or if you want to spend the day with friends thrifting clothes or records or other things, cool. But otherwise, it's not all that. Firstly, the block of stands you encounter when you first get off the #4 purple line is NOT technically the Puces. It's people selling knock-off sneakers and merch. You must travel further in (refer to the posted map on the main street) to find the good sections (Paul Bert, Biron, Dauphine, Serpette, etc.). Sure, it somewhat interesting for a few hours and gives you a different view of Paris than the touristy spots and yes, it has an interesting history (it's more than 100 years old), but I wouldn't go back unless I was a local.
