    Beach Day
    Naomi G.

This beach was great for the simple fact that we didn't have to make a lengthy journey from parking to the beach with all of our beach gear. It's a drive on beach which made the beach day a breeze. It was very busy, so not the secluded quiet beach that also are gems. This is the beach to go to if you want an easy day at the beach with little hassle.

Parking is close by and cheaper than Daytona and if you want to- go park ON the beach! Bathrooms and showers and friendly people !

LOVE New Smyrna It is so quaint. The beach is awesome, flat sand (Cars ride on the beach so be careful) There are sooo many little shops and restaurants and bars when you are striding towards the beach We happened to go because there was a jazz festival going on. PROBLEM with the festival was most of the groups were inside certain restaurants/ bars Very few just playing in the open like a "regular" festival. BUT, we went to LUMA'S it is an outdoor coffee shop with tables and swings. I loved this little gem The young baristas were awesome. Since those who follow me know my husband is a Coffee connoisseur (and we've been known to go to many, many coffee shops known in Volusia County) I am a Coffee Teeterler and I still have trouble figuring out what coffee I like to taste Anyway, we had a great time and if you're local (Daytona, Ormond) especially a tourist, This is a MUST on your list to travel to Photos are awesome

A beautiful beach! Nice and wide with sand that is easy to walk on. I put my feet in the water on each walk that we took. It was cold but nothing like up north. This beach allows cars to pay to drive on the beach. That is a nice feature. The only downfall is that a few times I saw small children run out in front of a vehicle with no concern at all. I would not sit with a family near where the path of on coming cars is located. The photos of our family came out gorgeous. We plan to do smoother family get together next year at the same Airbnb. Hopefully next time it won't be for a celebration of life.

Extremely nasty rude lady at beach. Not welcoming at all. You would expect people to be nice to out of towners.

My family and I were visiting Orlando for my daughters cheer competition when we decided to take a beach day in nearby new Smyrna beach area. We had visited the other surrounding beaches such as cocoa, Tampa and Clearwater so we decided to see what new Smyrna had to offer. We visited on a mid to late morning May weekday and it was pretty empty which is perfect for us. We aren't huge fans of overcrowded beaches. New Smyrna is a beach that offers on beach parking so we took advantage of that. The beach was very clean as was the waters. Waters while having some waves was pretty calm and you could walk out extremely far and stay waste deep. At least the part of the beach we were at. The beach part we hung out at for the day had a nice park and playground in it as well that my youngest two enjoyed a lot. My 3 year old didn't have the best time at the beach as it was a windy day and the sand was blasting against her which was scaring her. But we overcame and she still had a great time. Overall we had a very pleasant visit here. Nice and clean beach. A cool Little town portion and we they looked to have some good dining options. We are at Norwood's and we had a great experience.

Touristy spot From Cocoa Beach we drove for a little over an hour and ended up in New Smyrna Beach. This is one of three places in Florida where beach driving is allowed, just like our Pismo State Beach and the adjacent Oceano Dunes in California. There is also a part of the beach where no cars are allowed so you get the best of both worlds here. The beach is patrolled by lifeguard. This beach has one of the highest incidents of shark bites in FL. The beach is free but you'd have to pay for parking. The sun was beginning to set when we arrived. We briefly checked out the beach scene and decided not to go near the water. We checked out the local restaurants. Fun fact: Interesting that there are no chain restaurants on New Smyrna's beachside. Everything is locally owned with only mom-and-pop style restaurants. The small town beach village is just a short walking distance from the beach. It has a very vibrant and fun atmosphere with nice touristy shops that are locally owned. There were a lot of people that evening, very crowded. Wish we were able to stay longer and spent more time here. Just to dip our feet in the water would've been refreshing on a July Florida heat. Review #1758

This was my first time at this beach and I liked it a lot. What differentiates it from other beaches is that it allows cars to drive and park on the beach for $20 a day. It also has many cute shops and places to eat on the road leading up to it and they are all local, no chains. It is definitely a place I will explore more. For the beach itself, the sand is very nice and the lifeguards are pretty attentive due to the prevalence of sharks in the water sometimes. There were some pretty high waves when I went probably due to the tropical storm.

Many call New Smyrna Beach the shark bite capital of the world. It is the only beach that I personally experienced sharks swimming next to my children and I. Thankfully most of them are not interested in feediing off of humans so we are able to get out of the water safely. The reputation does not prevent large amounts of people from visiting every year. It is an intensely popular area. After my experience I only visit in the winter months and stay at the waters edge. When our temperatures drop to the mid to low 70's lots of our beaches become almost like a ghost town so the peacefulness adds to the enjoyment. It costs $20 a day to drive on the beach. You are allowed one exit with a return once a day. The white sand is mostly compact and easy to walk on.

Magnificent beach, gorgeous white sand, and if you pay an entrance fee you can park your car at the actual beach. That was really interesting to see. For my personal taste it looks very commercialized, I like sand dunes and native grass and flowers, so this beach somewhat lacks nature (if that makes sense).

A really nice beach for families, clean and for the most part safe. Life guard stations in some areas. Condo rentals available right on the beach make for gorgeous views. Not as busy as Daytona Beach. Parking can be cramped and expensive in the public lots.

We took a quick look at this beach while in town. Sadly it is not pet friendly, but that's probably best since there are vehicles on the beach. In my opinion, the cars on the beach ruins things a bit. One good thing about it is this type of sand is awesome for long walks, which I have enjoyed in places like nearby Daytona. We saw the beach from the end of the shopping district on Flagler Ave. There is a teeny tiny boardwalk at the end of that road that overlooks the ocean. There are some covered areas you could sit under and enjoy nice beach views. This was mostly a senior crowd hanging out on the boardwalk, but there were some sketchy characters down at the other end.

    gorgeous view

Having lived in California for a bit, I grew to love seaside cities with a shopping/dining district. You can definitely find that beach city vibe here too. When we first got to town we visited Canal St, which was a little underwhelming, but did have some shops and restaurants. I liked seeing some of the older historic buildings. If you love pizza, check out Panheads. We next headed over to Flagler Avenue, which I loved! This street is chock full of eateries and shops, plus the beach is at the end. If you only have limited time in town, come here instead of Canal. We had our little dog with us, I felt like it was fairly pet friendly here. We chatted with some friendly people while we took a stroll down the street and saw other dogs as well. I got a kick out of the large number of shuffle boards located on Flagler Ave, I remember coming to FL as a kid and messing around on the court. At the end of Flagler, you can check out the mini boardwalk and catch some views of the beach. Overall, I liked this spot better than I thought I would.

Let's just call it Grayce Beach for short! Grayce Beach has two places to park. One is the main parking lot closest to the beach. It is $20 to park all day. There are two bathrooms and one shower. There is also a parking lot a little farther down the street that is free but requires a bit of a walk. The walk is down a nice boardwalk with some shade so it's not bad. If you have a lot of stuff to carry, the parking lot may be the way to go. The beach itself is very nice. Keep in mind that at this part of the beach cars can drive through from another access point. I didn't see a lifeguard on the day we went but our recent visit was also in the month of December (air temperature was warm but the water was cold so nobody was in the water.) I really loved that this section of beach was connected my a myriad of boardwalks that ended along the adjacent roads, allowing visitors to parallel park and stay for as long as they needed to. It's about a 20-minute walk to the downtown area, but it's not as busy or congested with car traffic from parking along the water. The only issue I can think of would be the lack of waste disposal options or rinsing areas, but you can find those close by! There are picnic pavilions that are first come, first serve. They don't have direct beach access or views, but they are cute and good for small groups. Once you make it to the water, it's also easy to find chair and umbrella rentals. They're very clearly overpriced, but it's good to have options.

One of the workers in the gift shop gave us an intro when we bought our tickets. You should definitely start across the street at the hotel/museum. That hotel/house has history all its own aside from the lighthouse. The family that lived there and ran it. I loved the house and it seems to have stayed in great condition after hundreds of years. In the hotel/house, you start with a short movie in the side room and then you can tour the house at your leisure. The house has multiple items displayed from over the years. There are also boards with a bit of history as you make your way through. Outside of the hotel/house is a relaxing area by the water. You could relax there or it'd be a perfect place for a wedding or special occasion. Once finished there, you can make your way back across the street to the lighthouse. On the lighthouse side, there are other buildings where people that took care of the place stayed. There's also a small storybook trail. It's not long at all but it has these storyboards around it talking about this cat named Nelly. That's all fun and stuff... but at the end of the trail, you see a little cat graveyard with cats that have been on the property over the years. When we walked up and I noticed Nelly was already buried! THE HORRRRRRRRRRORRRRRRR! On to the lighthouse; You can climb up to the top of the lighthouse. I think there is a sign that mentions 222 steps or something. It gets very steep near the top. Great exercise and it made me forget all about the cat graveyard. It's a cool place. I was intrigued by the Cincinnati Reds connection too. Other notables: Across the street is a restaurant and ice cream place. I don't think those two spots are related to the lighthouse itself but it's nice that they're there. We tried out both and they weren't bad at all. We didn't venture further down the road but we were told more restaurants/locations are further down. If you like history or inlets or just lighthouses, check out this place if you're in the area.
