Luckily, there are more amenities we can take advantage of. They rent kayaks and canoes and a bunch of other things for adults and kids. So that's a possibility. There is a huge grassy field for the kids to run around and play. And a paved walkway for you to run or walk that goes right along the water. Beautiful views across the way! I am just super happy with the amount of space here. We came for the playground and were able to stay t do other things because of the space and location.

Shortly after the road goes from 4 lanes to 2, there is public parking with clean bathrooms and showers that comes up on the right side. You have to cross the road to enter the beach but its not a long walk (you will want shoes). I like that this beach has a good amount of wet/medium and dry sand. Perfect areas for setting up your umbrella and for tanning in the sun. It was super hot but that made it very easy to get into the beautiful blue water. Not a driving beach which is a plus for us with our toddler running around. I would actually love to find a VRBO or AirBNB around here some time so we can just walk to the inlet beach. Other other favorite spot is Ormond due to the playground, splash pad and clean bathrooms, but its much more crowded... so not very friendly to social distancing.

Having lived in California for a bit, I grew to love seaside cities with a shopping/dining district. You can definitely find that beach city vibe here too. When we first got to town we visited Canal St, which was a little underwhelming, but did have some shops and restaurants. I liked seeing some of the older historic buildings. If you love pizza, check out Panheads. We next headed over to Flagler Avenue, which I loved! This street is chock full of eateries and shops, plus the beach is at the end. If you only have limited time in town, come here instead of Canal. We had our little dog with us, I felt like it was fairly pet friendly here. We chatted with some friendly people while we took a stroll down the street and saw other dogs as well. I got a kick out of the large number of shuffle boards located on Flagler Ave, I remember coming to FL as a kid and messing around on the court. At the end of Flagler, you can check out the mini boardwalk and catch some views of the beach. Overall, I liked this spot better than I thought I would.

There are sheltered picnic areas, grills, children's playground with padded ground, disability-accessible restrooms, water fountain, outdoor showers, 134 off-beach parking spaces, handicapped parking and a wooden observation deck. The Shores Hotel and the covered walkway across Atlantic Avenue is just north of the park and a nice place for food and drinks as well.

Lake Monroe Park is a popular park located at the base of the Lake Monroe Bridge. It is known for…read moreits beautiful waterfront views of Lake Monroe which is a lake on the St. John' River. It also has a variety of recreational activities. Lake Monroe is almost 10 acres and a destination for fishing, boating, kayaking, and other water sports. The park reopened to the public in July of 2004 after a $1.2 million renovation and improvement project that included new restrooms, refurbished entrance road, floating fishing docks, picnic pavilions, and improved parking and a trailhead for the south segment of the Lake Monroe-Gemini Springs-DeBary Hall trail. The Spring to Spring Trail is so named because the 6.6 mile trail links a number of state and county parks that contain springs. This segment of the trail is known as the Pat Northey Trail, named for a local resident who advocated for protection of this natural corridor. Additional park amenities include a boat ramp that puts you on to the St. Johns River at the north end of the lake, a sand volleyball court, and a playground, but it was closed during my visit. The trailhead at the back of Lake Monroe Park is a draw for hikers because the bike path leads to a broad boardwalk through a cypress swamp. There is also a 25 site campground, one of the few public campgrounds in Central Florida. Each site has a picnic table, grill, and electric outlet and a bathhouse with hot showers is provided. I loved the lake view and despite the alligator warnings the only one I saw was a huge concrete one that you could take your picture with. I did see a red-shouldered hawk in the parking lot catching his dinner but he didn't feel like stopping and posing for a picture.

This is a nice community park with lake access (boat ramp) that also has camping facilities…read more(trailer and tent). There is a ranger station there for assistance. The park has a small playground, volleyball court, pavilions, restrooms, and ample parking. The restrooms are nice, clean, and for single (private) use. I was impressed. I used the park for the Spring to Spring trail access. This is a nice area to go camping if you don't mind the road noise - probably not bad at night.

A park with water…read more Mariner's Cove Park is an almost fifty acre park that has just about some of everything. Basketball courts, tennis court, baseball and soccer fields, a play ground, hiking trials, picnic areas, clean bathrooms and even a fishing pier and small boat ramp. The park has access to Bethel Creek and from there you can head into Lake Monroe, The St. John's River and across half of Florida. Lots to do in the park but if you want to do absolutely nothing that is fine too. Plenty of peace and quiet and a great place to get aquainted with nature. Lots of huge aquatic birds and if you're lucky you might even see a gator or two. A cool park that never seems to be crowded but always is friendly and welcoming. A place that has just about anything you could want in a park and lets you discover something new everything you go.

There are adequate parking which requires a $20 daily parking fee. Follow the directions on the signage. Overlooking Daytona Beach, the accessible park caters to kids with a small playground and a splash pad. Picnic pavilions, showers, and public bathrooms are available. The Volusia County Lifeguard Headquarters is also located at the park. This is a nice spot to enjoy the weather with family or friends.

Sun wind and…read morewaves Sun Splash Park is a pleasant little beachy park in the midst of lots of great beaches and parks. It's a crowded place in the summer but then so is every beach in Daytona. It's lovely beach if you happen to enjoy long, flat areas of wide sandy ocean front. . The waves are usually pretty decent and on windy days can get pretty feisty but it is usually pretty mellow and a good place for kids. In fact the whole park impressed me as appealing to kids. Not crazy, drunken and insane kids like Daytona gets at certain times of the year but younger kids that want to play on the beach and in the ocean. Some nice picnic benches, relatively clean bathrooms, drinking fountains and some things for the young ones to play on makes Sun Splash park a nice place for a family outing.

The whole area has long been a vacation destination and was a popular spot for a vacation since post Civil War northerners started vacationing here to escape the northern winters. It is also an area that many associate with auto racing. In fact, the Daytona Beach area has long been tagged the "Birthplace of Speed" as many early pioneering automobile enthusiasts would head towards its harpld-packed beaches as paved roads were not yet common. In fact, some of the early automobile races were held in the area and we can trace those automobile races back to 1902. Bike Week (and Biketoberfest) and spring break are also popular reasons to visit the area. Ormond Beach has a lot to offer for either residents or visitors. I would definitely recommend a visit to the "Birthplace of Speed."
