Pretty darn amazing, I must say!…read more Vulcan Lane Bagels has just opened up right in the heart of the city, serving bagels with an array of toppings, Atomic coffee, cold drinks and pastries from Scratch Bakers. This place is a hole-in-the-wall, with a bench seat, room for only two people, so ideally this place was designed for on-the-go bagels! I came here for lunch yesterday, seeing as it is right across the lane from my work! It was incredibly busy when I arrived, however owner Ruben was friendly and welcoming and the other lady taking the orders was efficient. However, I could tell they were feeling the stress with so many people! After overhearing another customer telling his friends that the "chipotle beef was so delicious", I just knew I had to order it! Served with a fresh tomato and onion salsa, herbs and their homemade hot sauce, the chipotle beef bagel was absolutely melt in your mouth, to.die.for, scrumdiddlyumptious! I could have eaten another one (or two) it was that good! But watch out, it is spicy, and had me grabbing for my water bottle every few bites! I can't wait to go back and try more of their toppings. Here's a taste of what else is on offer: - Scrambled eggs, prosciutto and thyme (ideally a breakfast bagel - they open at 7am) - Pastrami with hot wholegrain mustard and smoked Swiss cheese - Avocado smash with lemon and chilli flakes - Peanut butter or nutella! Highly recommend trying out Vulcan Lane Bagels! Plus everything they serve is under $10 - absolute bonus!

I dropped by this relatively new spot on Vulcan Lane the other day, after wondering for weeks where…read moreexactly it could be! It's literally a little window, blink and you might miss it... just look for a huddle of people on a weekday - they seem to have a lot of regulars from the nearby offices! I couldn't decide if I should be annoyed or amused by the service here. The guys working are super friendly, but this means they are chit chatting away with the customers (particularly the ladies, let's be honest) while a line is building up behind them. With just the two of them working, it makes for slowww service, but verrrrry friendly and personal service. Basically, don't drop in for a quick takeaway coffee and bagel on the run, it's more like a beachside cafe on island time at a takeaway window on Vulcan Lane. The bagel was pretty good - I got some kind of riff on a normal offering in order to get melted cheese and avocado together with some chili flakes. It's not a giant NY style bagel (still haven't found a proper NY bagel here, I know I know) but it'll satisfy in the meantime. They were happy to mix and match their offerings, and their bagel/coffee special is the best deal in town (you get your coffee for $2 - whatever kind you want!) Only problem, you guessed it, the guys got chatting and my coffee was waylaid until I reminded them. Great coffee once I got it though!

Goodness Gracious is a tucked away store/cafe in Eden Terrace. Unless you work around there or…read moresomeone told you about it, you would hardly notice it. Goodness Gracious offers a menu of NY Bagels, which the store follows a similar concept at Best Ugly Bagels. To be honest, I was initially hesitant to try Goodness Gracious. I have had Ugly Bagels a couple of times and there was a lot to live up to. Their menu was quite standard with your classic sandwich fillings in a bagel but executed well. I do like the option to choose the type of bagel you want. I'm a sucker for salmon, so I chose the Classic bagel. It was a nice change since the salmon was cooked rather than raw. My dining partner chose the Wilbur bagel which was an unusual bagel filling with a spiced pulled pork. Again like Burger Burger, this was a very messy bagel to eat although tasty. We also had to try the Peanut butter and salted caramel smoothie. For $7 this was quite reasonable with the unique flavours and great flavour. Seating was very limited so we had to takeaway. This is where we realised some of the bagels you may need a fork and knife to eat it. Good place to try. Everything was tasty and quick, just not quite as good as Best Ugly Bagels. It's right around the corner from the AUT Tower so convenience-wise, it was A+. The chicken rolls here are seriously good and I really like their baked goods as well! I'm a big fan of their caramel slice and still crave it every now and then. They sell a variety of foods so they cater for whatever you're feeling like. Admittedly, I've never had one of their sandwiches. And that was because I was obsessed with their pies (mince and cheese to be precise). I can assure you you probably won't find one better in the CBD, these babies are usually gone by lunchtime, and knowing your luck it'll be the one you were thinking about all morning! But I'd suggest getting one anyway, that pie pastry they make is amazing. Global Sandwich is the best place to spend that extra change and more.

For me this is heaven, nothing satisfies a student more than cheap food! I saw the sign as I was about to head into Imax food court but I ran across the road to Global Sandwich. I bought a smoked chicken sandwich on five grain bread and a banana muffin. This cost me $3.70! If you don't believe me head down there yourself. Apart from the cheap price it's nice to know that they are some honest people in this world who don't recycle their food stock.
