Best Ugly Bagels became a favorite breakfast/brunch spot for me on a recent stay in Auckland. Located in a commercial plaza with lots of other great spots, the front is open to a nice view of Victoria Park below. Parking is outside and it's also easy to walk here from the Sky Tower area. They have a number of high tables outside with stools and a fireplace with bench for those cold days. Inside is a high-ceilinged bakery with counter to order, chalkboard menu, and a number of items ready to-go for sharing. I loved the open bakery, where you can watch them spin, twist, seed, and bake the bagels. The coffee counter is right at the front too, with sandwiches being made behind. The staff was loud and happy, yelling out orders and calling names. During my visit I had a few teas and coffees - loved the tall black. Water is free and inside the entrance. For bagels I tried one smeared with butter and marmite (it's a delicious zesty savory spread), and the tuna melt which was my favorite. Tuna salad piled on thick then toasted, with cold salsa on top. Their combos were worthwhile; maybe a little expensive if you think it's "just a bagel" when in reality it's a full and filling meal. This was a favorite overall, I'd definitely come back. Also check out their smaller cafe / sandwich place closer to the water in the CBD.

Even though I had just eaten an entire meal next door at Odettes Eatery, I simply had to try a bagel at the Best Ugly Bagel. There was a large menu board listing the various options. I ordered the schmearz; which was a sesame bagel with plain cream cheese and it was good. I purchased a bag containing 4 different bagels to try later back at the hotel. I didn't get around to eating them until returning home a few days later. I toasted them up and they tasted almost as fresh as the one I ate while sitting outside of the Best Ugly Bagels. If you're in Auckland, you should stop at either of two locations in the CBD. You can even find the Best Ugly Bagels in the international terminal at Auckland airport.

Stopped by Ugly Bagel in the Britomart area of Auckland for a quick breakfast and I must say, I was thoroughly impressed. I opted for the lox bagel and it was nothing short of great. The bagel was perfectly toasted, and the salmon was fresh and flavorful. The cream cheese and capers complemented the dish well, making it a real treat for my taste buds. The impeccable service and welcoming atmosphere make it an even more enjoyable dining experience. Lovely part of town to hang out and great budget friendly option to eat!

This business is mostly a take away bagel and coffee shop with many other locations. Service was wonderful and friendly. Coffee was great. Bagels were good with a variety of "schmears." Good for a rainy day. Coffee and bagel specials go for under $12 NZ. Pretty good deal!

Love this bagel! We got the TBD which had pesto, tomatoes, olive oil, avocado and basil on it. It was SO good. It also had flaky salt on the top which really added to the taste. Service was great and the atmosphere had a chill vibe. There were a ton of options that all looked good! Prices ranged.

Ugly bagel but delicious! I saw the name of the store while walking by so I thought I'd stop in for a bite. I've never tried marmite before. I ordered toasted sesame bagel with marmite and it is delicious. Salty and umami on a mildly sweet bagel. The quick bite hit the spot. I'm ready for an afternoon of walking around the CBD. $5 USD.

This is my second time here and I LOVE IT. Bagels are awesome and their bagel creations all look appetizing, the coffee is good and strong, and the service is insane. They run their kitchen like a five star chef would! It's quite fun the watch while your order is made. Top music selection too!

Best Ugly Bagels just hits the spot sometimes when you need breakfast and a coffee on the go in Auckland CBD.

I spent four nights in Auckland and had to come here twice! I love the food and ambiance; I wish there was one in the States! I had the hummus bagel and also the cream cheese bagel with tomato and olive oil. All of the ingredients were very fresh, and the bagels themselves were freshly baked. I also had the flat white here and it did not disappoint!

L: White fish & flat white. R: TAB and a lemon ginger. Yum!!

Great coffee, coconut water and bagels. Not quite NY or SF but delicious in its own right and enough for us to visit twice in a week. The combos are basic but tasty: TAB (tomato basil cream cheese and lemon olive oil) and the salmon are favorites. While these are not cheap, like $16 NZD-spendy for the salmon, for the freshness and taste, they're worth it. Will be back next time!

If you're craving for bagels and cream cheese...!! This is the place to go! Located in a newly modern designed building, this little shop is beyond cool! There is a great variety of bagels to choose from and you can even customise it to what you'd like. The staff were very friendly and quick to getting your orders done. You can see how the bagels are made right in front of you as they're being ordered. The smell of fresh made bagels makes you even more hungry! I grabbed the plain schmearz, forgot to take a photo but it was cream cheese on a sesame top bagel. Oven toasted. Just enough to hit the spot! Will definitely go back to try the other flavours!

Best bagels I've ever had! You can see them make the bagels right in front of you. They are very fresh and you can customize the bagels how you want! They also have great coffee!

Goodness Gracious is a tucked away store/cafe in Eden Terrace. Unless you work around there or…read moresomeone told you about it, you would hardly notice it. Goodness Gracious offers a menu of NY Bagels, which the store follows a similar concept at Best Ugly Bagels. To be honest, I was initially hesitant to try Goodness Gracious. I have had Ugly Bagels a couple of times and there was a lot to live up to. Their menu was quite standard with your classic sandwich fillings in a bagel but executed well. I do like the option to choose the type of bagel you want. I'm a sucker for salmon, so I chose the Classic bagel. It was a nice change since the salmon was cooked rather than raw. My dining partner chose the Wilbur bagel which was an unusual bagel filling with a spiced pulled pork. Again like Burger Burger, this was a very messy bagel to eat although tasty. We also had to try the Peanut butter and salted caramel smoothie. For $7 this was quite reasonable with the unique flavours and great flavour. Seating was very limited so we had to takeaway. This is where we realised some of the bagels you may need a fork and knife to eat it. Good place to try. Everything was tasty and quick, just not quite as good as Best Ugly Bagels. Pretty darn amazing, I must say!…read more Vulcan Lane Bagels has just opened up right in the heart of the city, serving bagels with an array of toppings, Atomic coffee, cold drinks and pastries from Scratch Bakers. This place is a hole-in-the-wall, with a bench seat, room for only two people, so ideally this place was designed for on-the-go bagels! I came here for lunch yesterday, seeing as it is right across the lane from my work! It was incredibly busy when I arrived, however owner Ruben was friendly and welcoming and the other lady taking the orders was efficient. However, I could tell they were feeling the stress with so many people! After overhearing another customer telling his friends that the "chipotle beef was so delicious", I just knew I had to order it! Served with a fresh tomato and onion salsa, herbs and their homemade hot sauce, the chipotle beef bagel was absolutely melt in your mouth, to.die.for, scrumdiddlyumptious! I could have eaten another one (or two) it was that good! But watch out, it is spicy, and had me grabbing for my water bottle every few bites! I can't wait to go back and try more of their toppings. Here's a taste of what else is on offer: - Scrambled eggs, prosciutto and thyme (ideally a breakfast bagel - they open at 7am) - Pastrami with hot wholegrain mustard and smoked Swiss cheese - Avocado smash with lemon and chilli flakes - Peanut butter or nutella! Highly recommend trying out Vulcan Lane Bagels! Plus everything they serve is under $10 - absolute bonus!

It's literally a little window, blink and you might miss it... just look for a huddle of people on a weekday - they seem to have a lot of regulars from the nearby offices! I couldn't decide if I should be annoyed or amused by the service here. The guys working are super friendly, but this means they are chit chatting away with the customers (particularly the ladies, let's be honest) while a line is building up behind them. With just the two of them working, it makes for slowww service, but verrrrry friendly and personal service. Basically, don't drop in for a quick takeaway coffee and bagel on the run, it's more like a beachside cafe on island time at a takeaway window on Vulcan Lane. The bagel was pretty good - I got some kind of riff on a normal offering in order to get melted cheese and avocado together with some chili flakes. It's not a giant NY style bagel (still haven't found a proper NY bagel here, I know I know) but it'll satisfy in the meantime. They were happy to mix and match their offerings, and their bagel/coffee special is the best deal in town (you get your coffee for $2 - whatever kind you want!) Only problem, you guessed it, the guys got chatting and my coffee was waylaid until I reminded them. Great coffee once I got it though!

It's right around the corner from the AUT Tower so convenience-wise, it was A+. The chicken rolls here are seriously good and I really like their baked goods as well! I'm a big fan of their caramel slice and still crave it every now and then. They sell a variety of foods so they cater for whatever you're feeling like. Admittedly, I've never had one of their sandwiches. And that was because I was obsessed with their pies (mince and cheese to be precise). I can assure you you probably won't find one better in the CBD, these babies are usually gone by lunchtime, and knowing your luck it'll be the one you were thinking about all morning! But I'd suggest getting one anyway, that pie pastry they make is amazing. Global Sandwich is the best place to spend that extra change and more.
