We came to the Lighthouse Bar and Grill for and early dinner on a Friday evening. The place wasn't…read moreterribly busy yet when we arrived, and we didn't have to wait for a table. The Ambience is pretty standard for a sports bar and grill in Nebraska, with the requisite TVs lining the walls. During our visit, most of the TVs were muted, but one was blaring sports and commentators fairly loudly, especially for how quiet the rest of the place was. The menu is not vegetarian-friendly. Other than your standard deep-fried appetizers, the only option for herbivores is a veggie pizza. I ordered a personal sized one, sans onions. The pizza came out with plenty of toppings and cheese, but unfortunately, it could have used some more time in the oven. The crust was definitely doughy, and the toppings were a bit soggy. The cheese curds were decent though, and everyone else in our party enjoyed their food. This is not the kind of place I tend to seek out personally, because I know the options for me will be very limited. But sometimes we go where the group wants to go. Certainly visit and decide for yourself if you are in the mood for some classic bar food. (For those wondering, this is a Pepsi establishment.)

After 11 p.m., there's usually a line to get in, and there's typically a $10 cover charge. One downside is that they only accept cash, so there's often a line at the ATM as well. Dj could be better though! There are two different dance floors, plus a nice, spacious patio with a fountain. Overall, it's always good vibes here, and it's a great place for a fun night out!

Hadn't been back to…read moreOmaha in more than 20 years - but was there with my husband, and was really looking forward to showing him a part of my history. Yes, it's changed some - but pretty much all in positive ways! Loved the music and vibes. The bartenders were friendly. Drinks were crazy cheap by Vegas standards. As an older guy now, the most surprising thing was how many college-age straight-ish folkz there were (can't know for sure, of course - but that's what it looked like) It warms my heart to see how friendly, open, and accepting that crowd is. Keep Leading the Charge, Omaha! That being said, I feel that we're losing spaces where just gay men hang out. I miss the sexy, cruisey, brotherly vibe of some of the old haunts. Still, it's a fair trade to see so many ages, genders, and presentations all having fun together. My husband - who is born & raised in Las Vegas - where we live - said "Why do I have to travel to Omaha to hang out in a really great gay bar?!" WTF, Vegas?! Times change, but The Max is eternal!
