If you look through my profile you'll see I RARELY leave a one star review- almost a decade on Yelp, 3 years of those as Yelp Elite and tons of reviews total, I've only left 3- one star reviews.. This place deserves so much worse than just a bad review.. I was GROSSLY misled by what I thought to be a trustworthy doctor. I went in for my first visit back in June and was told by Dr Brewer and his insurance nurse that if I would allow them to do an endoscopy they could tell insurance I had a hiatal hernia. With a diagnosis of hiatal hernia, they could utilize my insurance to cover the facility fees, bringing the total for a bypass to approximately $6500 out of pocket. So I agreed to undergo the endoscopy.. After the endoscopy I was somehow told they could not provide a total cost for the surgery up front, instead I was instructed that I must fulfill all of these costly pre-requisites before I could be given a price. By the time I had completed all of the requisites (beginning of September), the originally quoted price of $6500 jumped to over $10.5k! But the worst part was, I had bills coming in worth thousands on top of that quoted price just from the prerequisite procedures! The prerequisite procedures were elaborate and VERY invasive, they cost thousands of dollars and when I reminded them that I said from the very first visit that I couldn't afford $10,000+ they said I never mentioned anything like that, even denied quoting me $6500.. unfortunately they're very cunning and kept everything "off record" so I'm left with thousands of dollars in medical bills for a procedure I cannot afford! None of this sounds "normal" to anyone I tell.. I wonder if there is any sort of recourse I could seek to cover the thousands in bills I have for no reason whatsoever? read more

The surgery went well. Everything was fine. I trusted her and followed her lead until she took it upon her son to prescribe me an addictive controlled substance. I began to get dependent on it and approached her about it. She said he'd help me taper off and referred me to a psychiatrist who doesn't take insurance. I felt left out in the dark. I began to panic and ended up in the ER where they gave me the necessary medication to stay calm. A month later, and not tapering off the meds properly, I had 4 tonic/clonic seizures and was hospitalized for 4 days. She is a great doctor, but when it came to the other part of my recovery, she completely left me in the dark in tapering me down off of the addictive meds I was prescribed by her due to my anxiety. I understand it was out of the kindness of her own heart and that she is a very busy doctor, but stay on top of everything and don't end up like me. My medication she prescribed was Clonazepam. Psychiatrists are VERY hard to find these days. On top of that, my neurologist wants me to stay on it, but my last visit with Dr. Hodges had absolutely nothing to do with my weight gain and she wouldn't let me speak. I'm beginning to think that she is being overworked and overseeing the important things in her patients. read more

I had gastric bypass in December of 2015. I weighed 235 and I was miserable. I am an elementary school principal and I couldn't keep up with my kids. All I wanted to do was sleep. I had to use a CPAP machine at night and I had arthritis in my hands, knees and feet. It hurt to even walk around the school building everyday. Two and a half years later, I am a new me! I lost over 100 pounds and I feel fantastic! I can do my job all day long and still have energy for my new hobby. Roller derby! I play on a competitive team with some awesome ladies. Dr. Brewer and his staff are very supportive and helpful. I highly recommend New You Bariatric Center to anyone that is ready to change their life. read more

They are so UNPROFESSIONAL and RUDE. Especially NESHIA! She's the new girl and will overtalk you on the phones and cut you off. Your concerns about a service YOURE PAYING FOR and RISKING YOUR LIFE/BODY and what you have to say doesn't matter. She alone makes the entire business look bad although they do a pretty good job at that themselves. I've been working with them for 3 years and it's been nothing but a hassle back and forth. Chante was supposed to be working my case and she calls and forgets why she called you, doesn't follow up with drs offices on paperwork, I had to do all of the footwork, it took me over a month to get things straight. And she had me calling my dr office requesting forms they had already sent multiple times and when she realized it all she said was "oops". She's sweet but highly unprofessional. They scheduled my endoscopy at a hospital over an hour from my house when they work with a hospital 30 mins away. Plus after it was all said and done my insurance didn't cover that hospital so guess who's stuck with a $4500 bill?! I had to keep calling back to inquire about a location, had to reset my surgery date 3 TIMES due to miscommunication and just a lack of giving a damn on their end. Told me I HAD to come in to a group dr appointment I never scheduled the DAY BEFORE because it was required for the surgery and said I "don't have a choice". Unwilling to set a later day that fits my work schedule as I requested. Even today, they can't give me an official date for surgery, I call multiple times a week and no one can give me an answer. They just say, "we'll say dec. 21 but we can't guarantee it". I work, I have a newborn and this isn't some fly by night procedure and process. Im always told I have to wait on somebody new for information. I tried to stay with them because I LOVE Dr. Hodges but the staff ruined this experience with them and at this point I'd rather go to Tijuana and take my chances of black market organs being stolen than work with that unprofessional, narcissistic, entitled staff. The only pleasant person to even work with was Laura and when she wasn't there it was chaos. I told Nisha I was fed up and I'll have someone else to do my surgery she hung up in my face! In early 2017 I made the decision to finally do something about my 30 year battle with weight and I chose New You Bariatrics to partner with me on that journey. At my first appointment, I admitted to having no clue about weight loss surgery, insurance, or even whether this was a viable option for me. Dr. Hodges answered all my questions and assured me that they would help me navigate. I loved that she gave me choices and clearly explained the differences between all the available options and the pros and cons of each. The office staff provided a great checklist that walked me through all the steps I'd need to take to get to surgery day. They explained each procedure, why it was important and took care of all the paperwork my insurance company required to approve the surgery. They gave me a folder of information that became my guide to the next few months. They handled all the scheduling and kept me on track to be ready for surgery when my insurance approval came through. Surgery went great and Dr. Hodges followed up with me multiple times during my hospital stay. She was upbeat and encouraging as I dealt with the expected pain in the first 24 hours. At each of my subsequent follow-up visits, Dr. Hodges has cheered my success and offered practical behavior tips for dealing with the life style changes that are required to sustain the success that surgery has helped me achieve. Dr. Hodges has first-hand real-life experience dealing with a WLS patient, as her husband had the surgery. I learned throughout my relationship with New You, that some of the office staff and even Dr. Brewer has had weight loss surgery. Everyone I've encountered when visiting New You are quick to share their WL experiences and to offer words of support and encouragement to me. Almost 18 months later, I'm at my goal weight. All of my weight related health conditions have been resolved. I no longer have high cholesterol, prediabetes or the aches and pains that come from carrying extra weight. I look and feel better than I have in years!! No pun intended, It carries a great deal of weight with me that these folks have walked the talk when it comes to understanding the lifelong struggle of maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle. I was hopeful that New you Bariatric would do a revision on my bypass i got at Barker Bariatric in 2013. I knew Hodges and Brewer used to work with Barker before years ago. I got one nutrition class done and one stress test done. Then everything came to a stop. I called, I sent emails on their portal asking what the next steps were and to update my current medical prescriptions. No one there checks the patient portal. There is no sense of urgency, they flat do not care. I am astonished that Dr Hodges doesn't hire competent people and that she doesn't watch her patient list more closely. I called them today to tell them that i am seeking another Bariatric surgeon to do my correction. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THESE PEOPLE. Go with someone else. read more

PLEASE READ BEFORE SCHEDULING I had called way in advance to ask them if they accepted Amerigroup as insurance for my gastric bypass revision and hernia surgery. They moved me along very quickly and AMerigroup did indeed authorize the procedure and we were ready to move forward. At the last minute, they said surgery will not be scheduled unless all monies were paid up front before surgery. At this point I had explained that according to Federal Law and the medicaid program, she could not take payment from me AND amerigroup as well. They kept on insisting that Amerigroup will not pay for the surgery THOUGH A FULL AUTHORIZATION WAS GIVEN FOR ALL THE ABOVE PROCEDURES. Pricilla, the office manager, repeatedly stated that she was told in confidence by a veteran employee of 15 years at Amerigroup that they weren't gonna pay, but they gave the authorization anyways. The only reason I went with them to begin with was because Dr. Hodges herself told me she would work with Amerigroup. At the beginning, since she is fairly new surgeon and super new Bariatric surgeon, since she is just a general licensed surgeon and not board certified, she as super supportive and agreed wholeheartedly that I was a perfect candidate for the surgery. We did stress test, mental eval, nutrition, everything. So, after all that, she even asked me to post on Obesityhelp.com to let others know she will work with state medicaid. I did so several months ago and you can google my post. Since then, she has gotten several new patients, cash pay of course, and decided last minute to drop me. I want to clearly state that I have severe muscle separation in my upper and lower abdomen and surgery needs to be completed as soon as possible, being that my organs are literally falling out of my ribcage. I need the abdominal wall surgery asap, but its an * hour surgery, and I could never survive it at my weight and every doctor has told me they will not touch me if I do not weigh less than 160. So, this was a huge emergency, even on her part, and all of the sudden it wasn't anymore. She dropped me because I would not pay whole amount upfront and let her bill AMerigroup. She knew that there was no recourse for me since only one doctor on medicaid in Texas does the procedure and his name is Dr.J. Wright. He is located in the San Antonio area, and has opted not to perform surgeries on anyone who is not in the San Antonio/ Austin area. So, Dr hodges took up three months of my time, rescheduling surgeries while she waited on Amerigroup to approve. She has personal knowledge of the deceit and I have the emails and phone messages and other methods to prove it. I informed her personally of what her billing department was doing, and she wholeheartedly stated that she told the billing manager to do it and stands behind her billing manager, Pricilla, 110%. She said she would refund any money that I paid and that due to the level of emergency with my health, would send medical records immediately by certified mail. I don't have more money to put forward to have these tests redone for JPS and surgeons, and now she has decided to hold them hostage. I cannot move forward and now I am in a wheelchair as of two days ago and my condition has severely worsened. I cannot move forward without the cash to perform the evals again, since they are non JPS providers (JPS does not offer these services as gastric bypass revision). So, here I am, trying to get help, and all because she was readily dishonest. All I want is my medical records to move forward and a parting of ways. They refuse to give them to me repeatedly. I can't say enough about this center. I have had the best care I've ever experienced in any medical office. They are the kindest and most helpful people I've ever gotten the chance to deal with. Dr. Hodges immediately makes you feel at home and comfortable. You're a friend to her right away. She is so understanding and calming of your situation and I truly lucked out when I chose this center. Her office staff is the best in the business as well. I asked so many questions and had so many concerns pre and post op. I've had people respond to me after hours and while on vacation out of state! Laura, her practice administrator, is phenomenal. She worked so hard to get my insurance approved quickly and get in for surgery the following week. I have never had care like this and would not change it for the world. This office lacks follow through with regards to returning phone calls and following up with the insurance company. I was advised on a procedure that I did not meet the qualifications for weight wise so the outcome was a denial. I felt as though this is something as a specialized Dr's office they should have been aware of. Once denied I was informed by m insurance company that were a no show for a peer to peer in which they lied and said the physician had no experience in bariatrics. So I've basically thrown money away with them and have to restart the process. This was an awful way to do business and unprofessional. read more
