Clarke Brothers isn't really an Auto Factors, they're actually a Clutch Specialist, so when my…read moreSWMBO burnt out the clutch on her ancient jalopy, I was sent to Clarkes as they were they only place who didn't answer her enquiry with "A what?" They are basically a two man operation, there's Gerry, who is a walking encyclopedia of all things clutch related, and Paul, who looks like he should be ripping the guts out of a Harley in LA somewhere instead of working in a clutch shop in Belfast. In any case they were able to supply a clutch to fit and were very reasonable about it. My second visit was an emergency when my father left his car into his local mechanic and the clutch supplied by the mechanic was wrong, just what he needed on a Saturday morning, of course the clutch was an oddball item that wasn't in stock, fortunately my hairy namesake took one look at it, told me to "Bugger off for an hour" and when I returned he had refurbished the clutch like new. In short, it's one of those businesses that's a throwback to a previous age, two blokes who know what they are talking about and will take the time for a bit of banter and to make sure you're happy.

Fortunately Clarkes was a pleasure to go to. They provide very competitvely priced clutches and will gladly go the extra mile in order to ensure that you get the parts you need as promptly as possible. There is space to park the car outside, which is very important for somewhere so close to the centre of Belfast. The staff are wonderfully polite and friendly, which in the macho world of car parts and repairs is a real plus! They provide installation and all other relevant advice, and are very helpful!

    Halfords - Bikes galore

You sort of know what you're getting with Halfords, a good range of car and bike products and staff…read morewho are semi skilled in fitting a whole range of products. I like this particular Halfords. There's a huge car park so there's room for you to tinker with your new purchase. They also offer a fitting service out the front so if it's a little complicated a member of staff will do it for you! There's a massive selection of new bikes in here too - almost a whole floor dedicated to them. Today I was getting new trims for my car and it was so easy to navigate to them and as mentioned I used the spacious car park to fit them myself. If you have an issue with your car and don't want to go to a mechanic, it might be worth your while popping in here before hand!

It also caters for the motorcycle market as well. As well as selling accessories, they also offer various car maintenance services, including repairing scratches and scuffs to your car's exterior. I went in here to get a radio/CD player recently (no docking stations or MP3 malarkey for me) and it was pretty painless. I saw one on their website that was reduced to £50 and it looked decent. Even better than that, they have an online section where customers review their products so you have more of an idea about the ins and outs of the product you're going to buy. I went in, found the radio, and asked a member of staff if he knew of its compatibility with a certain year and make of car. He checked the computer and it turned out that I needed an additional device to fit the radio. It later transpired that I didn't need the device, but I suppose that could've been something that the previous owner installed, as opposed to being an attempt to sell me something I didn't need. The price of some of their services can be steep though.
