But try and order one with a card, and it's 'No Can Do': twice my card payments have been refused because of 'problems with the address'. The same cards seem to work everywhere else. It's a real shame. I like the food but Maharani seems to be 'Cash Only' despite their leaflets suggestion otherwise.

There is a plethora of oily, medicre offerings with uninspired menus and unappetising dishes. Hasina, however, IS excellent and I shall be ordering again. I plumped for onion bhajis, chicken dansak, bombay potato, rice, bread and poppadoms and I enjoyed a lovely meal and had plenty of leftovers for the next day. The bhajis were crispy but not cloying and came with a delicous dip. The dansak was complex as it should be: spicy and a little sweet. Sometimes the lentils in a dansak are little more than a sludge, not so at Hasina. It was perfectly done and generous with the chicken. The rice was fresh and not greasy. The bombay potato could have had a bit more poke, but that's a mere quibble. The bread, too was, delicious. I would have liked some gratis mango chutney. Hasina delivered swiftly, but not worryingly so. It was on my table within 45 minutes of ordering. Piping hot, with salad and a smile from the driver. An excellent restuarant.

When my boyfriend and I ventured inside for the first time and ordered our usuals (green thai curry, chicken vindaloo and sag chana), we realised the menu is uncannignly similar to that of our old friend, Mumbai Express. The man behind the counter eased my confusion and told us it's the same business. The food is brilliant, full of flavour and not just doused in spices and grease like some curry house. Most dishes come with rice and yoghurt dip, and a 10% discount on pick-ups keeps us coming back for more. The Chef's Specials are well worth a look in, and if you're not up for the whole shebang you can dip into the appetisers to mix and match.

And you know what? They may well be right... Having been steadily working my way through the Agra's menu since September, I haven't yet found a bad dish. Their curries are tasty without being overwhelmingly spicy and unlike a lot of curry houses, their meals aren't swimming in fat. But do they pass the ultimate test that of the non-soggy onion bhaji? Of course they do. I even order double so I can eat them to next day. Lush. The only downside (if you live anywhere other than right on top of it, like me) is that it doesn't deliver. And I must admit, it's for that reason that on a cold, rainy night we have gone elsewhere for our Friday night curry fix to save ourselves from changing out of our pyjamas and donning waterproof jackets to walk the five minutes there and back again. But when the weather is fair enough for us to shake off our laziness and venture out to collect our order, we've never had to wait more than half an hour, even after 8 o'clock on a Saturday night. Their prices aren't bad either a fair few dishes come with rice included in the price at no extra cost compared with other places, which saves a few pennies on side orders. Having been unable, thus far, to sample every curry house in all of Brighton & Hove I can't comment definitively, but as far as a good Ruby goes this is definitely one of the best you'll find.

The ones that I enjoyed and came out on top were the Chana Masala and the Shiraji-which is pretty spicy. Unless you splash out and opt for one of the more expensive meals(Tandoori King Prawn Masala-£9.25) you can get a main for around £5-£7, money is saved also as all main dishes come with rice and papadum, and with a student ID you can receive an extra 10% discount.

Most importantly, the food on offer is made to a higher standard than most take-aways in the area, and the food on offer is more than just your basic Indian or Chinese. By combining food from all over the Eastern world, Tropical Curryland offers a variety of different dishes from different countries, meaning you can combine all of your favourite dishes from all over the world. Not necessarily the most refined culinary idea in the world, but there's nothing wrong with a bit of mix-and-match, especially when it comes to take-away food. As take-aways go, there's really little to complain about at Tropical Curryland: sure, it's a little dingy, and the mixing of different foods is a little gauche, but who cares, it's flipping take-away. It least it tastes of more than one or two flavours!
