John Brown is not great. As a new business owner, I was not given any helpful advice or instruction. In fact quite the opposite. The advice that I was given, was unnecessary and given without proper instruction on how to utilize it. The information I wasn't given was crucial, which made me pay extra penalties down the line. I went to Newman to file my personal taxes for 2024. Taxes were filed on Feb 18. I was due a refund from both state and fed. Fed came through with no problem. But over 3 months later I still don't have my state refund. I understand they have no control over the state. But it's been too long and Im thinking there is a problem or a glitch. I called Newman today to ask if they could find out if there was a problem. The receptionist was very rude and just gave me the run-around, saying I just have to wait. I asked if they can't just make a phone call. Now she puts me on hold while I listen to an automated message tell me all the miraculous things Harold Newman can do to solve your tax problems but apparently making a simple call about a refund isn't one of them. Anyway, John Brown comes on the phone and says he need a power of attorney and the fee is $265. To make a phone call. $265! So the moral is, if you file your taxes with these people and pay the $450 fee I did which included the useless "consulation" fee and if something goes wrong, even something simple like where's my refund, these people will not be there for you unless they can fleece and take advantage of you. I won't be a returning customer. read more

Fast and painless. Newman is amazing, well versed, and very nice. We've been using him for a few years because both my husband and I have really bad learning disabilities and don't want to mess up on the tax forms ourselves. We are in and out in less than an hour, maybe even 30 minutes. They send you a packet and checklist so you can prepare as much as possible. Since we keep coming back all of our annual information is there which cuts down on the stress. The staff is super friendly and you can book your appointment online early and can email questions to them. I'm in a job where I can't step away during normal business hours to get information so emailing is super important. I highly recommend them. read more

My first visit based on a recommendation from neighbors. I had been driving to Lakewood for years and wanted someone more local. Nice office, they called to verify appt and sent a list of needed items before appt, Andy was my tax person and was prepared and ready to go. In and out in one hour. No IRS issues for mine. They had a direct email address if I had missed any info at appt. They were so prompt adding missing info and getting signatures and filing all after my 2pm appt.
