It's also great to know where to go to get variety and quality at a good price. Gardening can become expensive. I drove past this nursery for many years but I never stopped in. Actually, when you do drive past you do not appreciate how big this place actually is. It's deceiving from the front. This Nursery has such a large variety of plants and gardening materials available. You will find everything you need here. Wether it is a gardening pot, tools, soil, statues, etc... They actually mix and make their own brand of soil. I got a pack and it is great! One other thing that I love about this place is the Cactus green house! So awesome! There are not many nurseries with that much variety. Staff here are great and happy to help out with enquires. Be sure to let them know if you need advice with your garden. Only negative was the entry and exit point was a little confusing. Entry via carpark and exit at the counter inside, walk around on the street to enter back into the carpark. Meh... it's about the gardening and customer services for me!

Heynes is certainly one of my favourite plant nurseries I've had the pleasure of sauntering around…read more Their enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff have cheerily assisted me with everything from identifying a tree in my new front yard, to diagnosing a sick plant, to helping me find a gift for a friend. Their items can be pricey, but the plant quality is exceptional compared to cheaper items from Bunnings or Masters. Every plant I have purchased here for my garden has thrived (with one or two exceptions where it was more a case of 'gardener error' on my part). Not only have my annual seedlings done well, many have self-seeded and continued to thrive for years past their expected life-span. For service and quality that is above and beyond, visit Heyne's, one of the longest-running nurseries in Australia.

After a big night out in the city, I suggested that we swing past the Diggers shop in the Botanic Gardens, since we hadn't visited before. Unfortunately, parking was a bit difficult on Plane Tree Drive, but it was still quite nice to walk across the lawns to get to the shop. And what a shop! Although I don't like gardening, I am an artist, so appreciate the aesthetics of this establishment - all the pretty seeds lining one wall! My partner was in heaven - she loved the fact that they don't stock everything in the catalogue, but only the plants that need to be planted now. The seeds that should be sown now are labelled as such - it's all very practical. The staff are very friendly, and are knowledgeable - I assume they may have some sort of horticultural background. All in all, this is a place that even non-gardeners can appreciate!

The store in the Botanic Gardens is a bright, airy space, with beautiful glass overhead and is situated close to the cafe and overlooking the Mediteranean Garden. There's a wide selection of seedlings out the front and various tools as well. Inside is more supplies for the garden and a wall full of seeds, just about every seed you can imagine and then some more! The staff are very friendly and helpful, and there's a coin jar if you want a plastic bag. And if you want to take a look at the beautiful Museum of Botanical History, the door to that is adjacet to the Diggers shop. So you can look at history, then have a coffee, then buy some plants and stuff for the garden! Highly recommended for anyone who is interested in gardening, whatever your knowledge and skill level may be.

To be…read morehonest I don't really give a crap, but really the only way you can guarentee such things is to grow your own. Therefore, the most organic stall in the Central MArket has to be Prettejohns (Stall 4)! Prettejohns sells.....wait for it......plants! Well, mainly seedlings, but they will grow into plants! You can get Herbs, vege's, fruit and pretty flower plants that will go nicely in you back yard or a pot! They really cram a lot into the stall, so take some time to check it out! More than anything, I actually just like the stall as a break from the other stalls, working out which is more economical 3 mangos for $5 or 6 for $10 confuses me completely!

The Nursery is expansive with a range of trees, shrubs, grasses, flowers, fruit trees and some vegetables up for grabs. The plants on offer are at various stages of growth many are ready to go and already established and more are just waiting for full maturity. The staff in the Nursery are exceptional. All have a huge bank of knowledge and can show you a great range of plants suited to your region and needs and most of the plants are drought tolerant and attract native wildlife (all super important in my books!). The staff also are great with first time gardeners and will talk you through how to prepare the ground, what to use, how to compost, what tools you need, where to plant etc. The price is also pretty reasonable. I've turned to buying here for all of my plants as other big chain stores are just too expensive and the plants are poor quality and wilt away within the month (I'm looking at you Bunnings!). Definitely worth a visit, I send everyone here!

The majority of the shop is plants but they also have a good selection of pots, statues, etc outside and an excellent range of giftware inside the shop. It's worth venturing right down the back of the garden and having a look at their reject or damaged section. I picked up an absolute bargain...a garden angel statue of a little boy sitting with knees up to his chin, resting his head to one side over folded arms, posed looking down eyes closed. These statues look aged and retail for over $250, I found the purchase of the year paying only $50 because he was damaged, to me I didn't care...he's beautiful as he is. This is not to say it'll happen often but when and if it does...you're in luck. The garden centre is well maintained and well stocked for all you need to plant out your garden, patio, etc, also great for garden orientated gifts.

They have some great specials and their prices are comparable to bigger stores like Bunnings. In addition to all garden and outdoor requirements they also have a home delivery service on loads of raw materials purchased from them. They have single and tandem tipper trucks, depending on your requirements. Their prices on cartage are really good and their raw materials are also great. So if you need a few tonnes of mulch, or any other product, give them a call because you may be surprised how much cheaper and easier it may be. Their drivers and staff have always been good and are very knowledgable on their products. They can give you advice on anything you need and then back it up with the products you need to make it happen.

They have terracotta pots of all shapes and sizes, as well as stoneware and building products, such as glazed bricks and tiles. It is a bit of a maze when you first enter as the stock room isn't really manned. This is because Bennett's are primarily manufacturers (which means everything is really cheap) and when I was there I had to go and hoy a dude driving a fork lift full of terracotta potts to get served. But that's kinda cool in itself. Oh and did I mention they also sell, clay by the bag, which is pretty cool, and hard to find, and also the reason why I went there in the first place.

I recently purchased some hanging pots from Bennett's after seeing their products online…read more They organised the delivery interstate and the pots arrived without an issue. They are the most beautiful terracotta hanging baskets. I have potted them up and hung them and they look fabulous. I would highly recommend these pots to anyone who loves terracotta. I only wish they are more available on the east coast of NSW.
