The Herald News has been the weekly newspaper in Hodgenville and LaRue County since 1885 and was…read moreindependently owned and operated until 1991. Since that time it became owned by a publishing/media corporation. As a child I was always excited to read the Herald and get caught up on local news. As an adult living outside Kentucky, my parents use to subscribe for me so that I could still feel connected to local events. Since the paper became a part of a corporate publishing company the paper has only been exciting and interesting when Linda Ireland was editor and publisher, since Linda's exit from the paper many, many, years ago the quality of the information in the paper has severely declined to just what the corporation wants published and sermons written by Bible Belt ministers' (but one in particular) stating that mental illness is demonic possession and that if "you are a homosexual you cannot be a Christian." Publishing statements that people should not take medication for mental illness and that all one needs to cure mental illness is Jesus is hazardous and contrary to public good. But this newspaper has published many such falsehoods perpetuating prejudice and discrimination based on outdated false beliefs based on religion rather than science. In summation, there is little local news/information and the news is all reprints from the corporate news feed, advertising, and religious writings. Give the Herald a pass for sure!
