They ALL got up on their first try even!!! Met Brian today while he was showing two young girls how to get up on the boards. He was in a teaching session, but when he was done he showed the girls how to get up on the boards. We spoke with him and found out what a great guy, friendly, professional, humble and truly talented with new "surfers" he was. The young girls (maybe 7 and 9) got up on their first try. They continued to improve while their parents videoed their experience! He expressed to us that part of his business mission is to "pass along the good vibes". He definitely did that today. Brian was an amazing instructor! We visited Cocoa Beach at the end of April this year and my daughter (10 yrs old) and husband wanted to take surf lessons. We were going to sign up with one of the bigger schools with a huge store on the strip, but we are so glad we didn't! We saw Brian teaching another child at the area we were beaching in and approached him when his lesson was finished. We agreed to meet the next day at the beach. He was on time, professional, and very friendly. My daughter and husband got up on the waves on the first try and continued for the next 2 hours. There was a point where my daughter, became a bit scared of the deep water. Brian was patient, and they came in from the water for a bit. They had a little chat about it, and then had a water and snack break. After the break and a chat, my daughter was feeling confident again and they went out even deeper. I highly recommend Brian! We were very happy with Brian. He is a very down to earth guy. He took his time to help both our kids master the waves. If you want to stand up your first time ever surfing, this is the place to do it! Brian and Barry are amazing instructors, who are obviously passionate and knowledgeable about surfing. We took a class with them and it was worth every penny and then some. They gave us surfing and ocean safety tips, and worked with us individually even though it was a group class. Once we got out in the ocean, both my husband and I stood up and rode our first wave in! I was so impressed at the individual attention they're able to give, and honestly how easy they made our first surfing experience. Brian should have been in the shop today. Maybe the first impression would have been good enough to not walk out. Several emails and phone calls over 4 days unanswered. Once we were actually able to make an appointment we arrived to an empty store front, waiting for several minutes before anyone greeted us. In fact the first person to acknowledge us was pleasant and helped get the ball rolling, happened to be returning from a lesson before heading out for the day. The employee that was in the store appeared to have been woken up by that instructor and instantly declared he was "out of it" and not well. After another few minutes a different person arrived and tried to help and was doing so. Back to the sick guy (who should t have been left in the store at all, much less be the face of the organization). After looking for rash guards, asked us to wait a few minutes while he went to the washroom. We had purchased two groupons, with no exclusions stated. The last straw was when the ill employee was finally getting around to the waiver asked for an additional fee for the boards. When we objected he said " the boss told me to" and "it's like false advertising". All that said - we decided enough was enough. The camp they'd have our kids join was already in session and in the water. No one knew we were coming in. Every opportunity we gave them they let us down. The original lady who greeted us did call back and offered an apology which was thoughtful but too late. We're going to a competitor read more

I had a lot of problems getting them to answer the phone to make an appointment and for the first appointment nobody showed but we gave them another chance and I'm glad we did! My 9 year old granddaughter loved her lesson and when she was done they let my 3 year old granddaughter surf in the shallow water. They are great! Now the kids want to surf again real soon!! Excellent surfing class for a first-time surfer like me. The teacher customized the surfing lesson because I was having trouble and let me use a special big board, which allowed me to ride a wave standing up. I would go back to this place, and plan on taking my dad to this surf school when he comes to town. Also, they allow 24/7 online booking on the surf school's website, which is convenient. read more

We met Brian on Cocoa Beach during our family vacation. He graciously gave each of our three boys a free lesson on his surfboard, and after about 20 minutes had them all up successfully surfing! We are from out of state, so we can't take advantage of the surf school, but if we lived nearby I would enroll my boys in a heartbeat. I really enjoyed the experience with the Nex Gen team. I was at a loss when my son told me he wanted to learn to surf. I found Nex Gen after some research and it went very well from there. Scheduling was very easy using their website, and they followed up with confirmation calls. On day one Brian introduced us to John who immediately impressed me with his ability to speak to my son and now at him. In far less time than I thought it would take he was standing and moving through the surf. All this while running a surf camp. I had time to notice that each child attending the camp was watched over and actively receiving instruction. The staff kept all the attendees engaged. It was impressive to see the collection of smiles on a group of teens. We ran into traffic on our second day and the staff called to keep track of our progress and assured us John would be ready when we arrived. Once at the shop he took my son through an board choice and a walk through of what they would do during the lesson with no rushing or sense of inconvenience. I truly appreciated that. We did our surf lesson with Next Gen as an excursion on a cruise and it was our favorite excursion (even including two in the Bahamas!). Billy was an AMAZING instructor. He didn't waste any time and made sure he kept every one in the group equal. There were six of us total in our group and we all got an equal amount of time working with him one-on-one and I never felt like my husband and I were getting neglected. He was great about working with all ages (our group ranged from 12-23) and every single one of us was able to independently paddle and catch a wave to surf into the beach by probably 1/2 way through the lesson. We were only supposed to get a 2 hour lesson but he voluntarily stuck around afterwards to keep helping us and to let us surf longer, which was amazing because none of us were ready to quit! I can't recommend Nex Gen and Billy in particular enough, and the next time I'm around Cocoa Beach I am definitely going back! read more
