We've been driving past for years and finally took advantage of this great shop. My father from the North wanted to learn surfing (why are bucket lists inherently dangerous?). He got himself some private lessons a couple days in a row and a group lesson that included my husband and myself. The instructors were SO friendly and encouraging. My favorite was Calvin. He was positive but firm, lighthearted the whole time he's teaching you to not die. We were only in the shop briefly for the safety talk and an intro to the boards. We were in the water within minutes. My father could not stop raving about how knowledgeable and informative everyone was, and I was grateful for their great attitudes and kindness towards us and my pops. read more

The instructor was very patient and informative with my kids, he also had a great personality that put my little one at ease. It was their first time and I think they all did pretty good. Really great people and lots of fun! We had Todd and Nick as instructors and they were amazing. We were given gear to use, and even though it was considered "rough", they were skilled and all of us were able to stand on our first day within a couple of minutes. I'd do it over again a million times if i could. If you're struggling to stand, they'll also stay in the shallow parts to assist you even more. 10/10 would do it again. read more

When you first walk in they talk to ya like your old friends and your instructors are actually professional surfers and not just a guy that knows how to surf. My boyfriend & I come to Cocoa every year around this time and he's been trying to get me to surf for a while now. He finally convinced me and we booked a lesson with Lauren at School of Surf. THIS WOMAN IS PHENOMENAL! She made us feel so comfortable and not just like one off lessons. She gives incredibly direct instructions and is a super effective teacher. Not only was I able to stand on my first lesson but i was able to catch multiple waves. We booked a group lesson for the family and the time happened to be during a storm. Todd and staff were very accommodating and educated us on the Florida weather patterns and surfing principles while we waited for the storm to pass. They also kept the kids entertained with movies and a fooseball until it's safe to hit the waters. During the lesson, Todd was great with the kids and provided reassured coaching. One of my girls gets very nervous about new physical activities actually kept trying with the positive reinforcements provided. We found this place on a whim and were so happy we did. It was very last minute but Lauren was able to find us an instructor for a lesson in the next half hour. We high tailed it to the school in our cold weather clothes because we were on our way to the airport but decided to take a small detour. We did the "semi private" lesson which consisted of my friend and I. The $45 price tag included all the gear including the wetsuit and board. It was completely worth it! We had a quick safety lesson then our instructor, Josh, took us out to the beach. We could not have asked for a better day to learn. Both my friend and I were up standing and riding the waves in no time. This was a miracle considering my lack of upper body strength. Josh also made sure we felt safe the entire time and gave us some really good tips. We had the best afternoon and the spontaneity turned out to be one of the highlights of our vacation! Their son Calvin gave our high school girls their semi-private lesson which included everything they needed. I absolutely recommend this location for first time surfers. Our instructor Calvin was super relaxed and patient with us. Very fun atmosphere, and I could tell safety was their number one priority. Just left School of Surf and my family of four is completely worn out and totally happy. Husband (pushing 50...shhhh), 17 yr old daughter, 14 yr old son and me (not much younger than hubby) all were standing on the board by the end of the lesson (some sooner than others...). This was our first Surf lesson ever. Our instructor (Lauren) was fantastic: kind, encouraging, strong as hell and we all loved her. If you are coming to Cocoa Beach,and are looking for an excellent Surf School,go no further then the School of Surf! We had our two Grandsons with us for a few weeks, and suggested to the boys (Aged 8 and 10) that learning to Surf might be something they would enjoy! They took us up on our suggestion,and off we went to the School of Surf! Lauren, our Grandson's Surf Instructor, was totally into making sure the Boys benefited from their class! She was extremely competent as a Surfer and Teacher,and showed patients and perseverance with assuring that both boys acquired the basics of beginning Surfing! We must add that the price for the lessons was fair, the Studio and equipment clean and in good shape, and the attitude of all Staff pleasant and friendly! We set up a semi private lesson this past April for my daughter (9) and son (age 6). Lauren was our instructor and she was FANTASTIC!! She had both my kids standing after about 20 minutes in the water! They liked it so much we went back a few days later for a second lesson with Lauren and again had a great time. Once we planned our next trip down the first thing they did was ask for another lesson with Lauren. She wasn't free for the whole time but made a point to come down to the water for the time she was free to say hello and hopped in with them for a bit. We had Hunter as their instructor this time and he was AMAZING too! They both made my kids feel safe in the water and I was comfortable with them in the water without me. Hunter took my daughter out past the closer waves and had her riding a little bigger waves. She is already begging to do the surf summer camp next summer! Our family had an incredibly fun time surfing today. It was my husband, myself and our 3 daughters - ages 16,14 and 12 - all first time surfers. Sooooo much fun! Lauren and Hunter were amazing. All of us were up and surfing within 2-3 tries. Even though the water was rough and the waves were crazy, we all had so much fun. We chose the 2 hour lesson ($60 per person) and I was wondering if it was maybe too long...... nope, it was perfect, the fastest 2 hours of our vacation! I could tell that they all love what they do and want to make sure that everyone finds success and has a great time! read more
