No loud music where you feel like you have to yell just to talk to your barber. QUALITY haircuts, where your barber actually knows how's to use a pair scissors and properly trim hair longer than an 8 guard. If you put a pair of scissors in 80% of these barbers in Browards hands, they'd have trouble cutting paper. You don't have to worry about that here though. I was looking for a new barber after trying a few others that were either too far, too fast, or too overpriced, so my doubts were high. But I figured I'd give a new small business near home a try, and goodness, am I thrilled I did! I called to let them know I was coming (but they welcome walk-ins warmly - see what I did there :-) Chris welcomed me as if we knew each other for years. As I sat in his clean, comfortable barber chair, I did not have to scream over loud music nor try to grab his attention away from the game on ESPN. His focus was on me, on my haircut needs, and soon enough, on me as a human being. He asked key questions to begin the job that I hoped he would do, without judging any of my answers or hesitations. He gave me some great options both before the cut and during the cut as he began to do his magic. So about the cut. He uses scissors, shavers, and razors... for the ears, around the hairline, to even out the sideburns, and ends with a delicious hot shave around the neck. He started and completed my sides with a "1" setting because that's what my clueless self asked for. Once done, he asked me if I wanted it lower. Yep, I became that guy. He happily and quickly cut down my sides with the "1/2" razor, and things looked beautiful (at least to me). He made the groove along the top right side of my hair to give me that clean, professional side split. He even offered to trim down and shape up my eyebrows and ears (I admit I had ignored my ear hairs... ya got me!). I left Chris' barber chair and University Barber Shop feeling so good about the experience and really looking forward to my return visit in a couple of weeks. My hair looked awesome without any gel or pomade (Chris offered, but I told him I was going right home and would just wash it off). Awesome without any gel! That never happens to me. Ever. Chris has been cutting hair for a dozen or so years. He and the rest of the barbers at University Barber Shop seem to get along really well with each other (which sure beats some of the "Mean Girls"-like barber shop I've been to before. They have older barbers for the picky. They even have a Colombian lady who, I'm sure, will cut women's hair to be as fabulous as hers. They've only been around as a business for a couple of months, but truly deserve to be very successful. They're a great new addition to the barber scene in Tamarac. You won't be disappointed. I promise.

He gave me his info and I told him I would come in at some point to see him. I came in earlier today, as a walk in, and Ben was happy to work me into his schedule. I received a great haircut and beard trim, for a very reasonable price. He made sure to discuss the type of haircut that I was looking for, and that I was satisfied when he was complete. Ben is all about producing a quality service, which I absolutely received. Ben's shop is clean, welcoming, and I can't wait to schedule my next appointment with him. I will also be taking my son there for his next haircut as well.
