I'm bummed to see so many bad reviews. I've ordered from them probably 3-4x now with no issues. Sometimes it takes a while to arrive, but the fabric itself is great. They've always got some kind of huge sale going on so you can get some really inexpensive fabrics. That being said, I don't expect the fabrics to be as high quality as, say, Mood Fabrics, but I've made plenty of pants and coats and sweaters without any problems. If you're just starting out, their fabrics are cheap enough to use for practice or making muslins (when there's a sale, obviously). I've gotten tweed and different types of wool for $5/yard. It's worth it to me. read more

Ordered two lengths of denim. When I got the package, one length was ok, but the other was not what I ordered (it turns out the description on the site was incorrect). When I first contacted them about the problem, Marc said they'd exchange the incorrect fabric and they'd send me a return shipping label. It's been over a month and they have not sent a return label. I've tried to contact Marc (or anyone else) many times, but no one responds. Two stars because most of the order was ok, but I won't order from them again. read more

Fraud, false advertising, and horrible customer service. I ordered 62 yards, plus 2 additional rolls, of what was clearly advertised as (still is advertised as) Polartec 360g velour fleece, with no mention of factory second status or defect. The fleece I received was clearly not anything remotely close to what it was advertised as. I work with Polartec fleeces and have many clearly labeled factory samples on hand to compare the fleece I received from Nick of Time Textiles/Fabrics to. The order from Nick Of Time came in with ripped up ragged edges, was entirely too thin to even be construed as a 360g fleece, and was missing the 2 additional rolls I ordered with no mention of status or refund. It appears that they have been in business long enough to know exactly what they are selling. Why the fraudulent listing practices? Why no return communication about the issue when provided with photographic evidence? Why am I having to seek resolution elsewhere? With not a single word of communication, they did refunded a small percentage of the money they defrauded me of. That is not going to cut it by any stretch of the imagination. In my opinion, this situation is clearly indicative of blatant fraud. Perhaps other customers have no idea what they are really buying. I have no idea. I ordered 11 yards of fabric from this company during their 29% off sale with free shipping for orders over $50. The order was comprised of 5 yards of teal twill and 6 yards of "vintage" fleece. I received my order today and could not be unhappier with Nick of Time Textiles. I received all of the brown fleece and ONE YARD of the teal twill fabric. Rather than tell me that they didn't have all 5 yards of the twill I ordered, they refunded me $19.16 for the yardage I did not get, charged me shipping and handling because my order no longer came to over $50, and sent me a yard of fabric I cannot use. There was no effort made to contact me to see if I wanted to change my order, or to cancel my order or to have the option of ordering a different fabric. Evidently, the "Vintage" brown fleece was something someone found in the back of a warehouse somewhere. It reeks of petroleum products. I finally got a response from my emails to Nick. He offered to refund my money. I replied that I only wanted a refund on the shipping and handling charges. I have not heard another thing and have not received a refund. I've ordered from Nick of Time several times. I've had two really good experiences, many mediocre experiences, and some bad, but this has finally alienated me from their company for good. This is a terrible company. I ordered a solid fabric mystery box and I got pure crap. It was about one third striped fabrics and the rest looked like it was drug out from the trash. I got crudely seamed fabric, faded fabric and some of the ugliest fabric I have ever seen. I asked for a partial refund and I got no reply. I'd give zero stars if I could. I placed a large order and when it arrived, many of the fabrics were not as advertised and very low quality. I contacted them about it and we went back and forth for OVER A MONTH through email and phone. I ended up walking away and eating my loss after nearly two months of explaining the problem over and over again with no resolution. I've ordered from them since then (my mistake - I really should know better) and they only sent part of the order. Apparently some of my items were out of stock and would ship later - but they didn't even bother to send me an email to let me know. I had to call and ask. And its now been 6 weeks since I placed that order and its still not here. I also placed an order using their "rewards points" and they just never shipped it or contacted me. After a month of my order just sitting there unfulfilled, I finally got ahold of them and they said that there was a glitch in the website and I shouldn't have been able to use my points for that order and I still owed them $72. Why wouldn't they have reached out to me, if that was the case? I called to make the payment and the lady at the desk didn't know what I was talking about at all, but she said she'd "take my word for it". She also said that their reward points work on an "honor system", whatever that means. And they've consitently shorted me 1-4 yards per print. It seems like the people who work here are nice enough, but this place is just a hot mess. Their item descriptions are a joke, as are their photos - there's no way to know what you're going to get until it arrives. They don't let you know when things are missing from your order, their reward point system doesn't work, and their customer service is non-existent. At this point, its a "shame on me" situation because I keep ordering and expecting them to do better, but they've proven time and time again that they will not. I ordered 6 yards of black denim. When it arrived I tried to cut out a pattern but the material shed too much black fuzz, it covered my office floor. So my wife suggested I first wash and dry the material. So I tried to do that. The amount of black fuzz that came off the material was hard to believe. It took my 1 1/2 hours to clean our drier. I emailed them and asked for money back but I didn't get a reply. From all the other reviews it doesn't look they are a very good company. This company is terrible. They entice you with extremely low prices, but the fabric isn't even good quality most of the time. I've ordered large amounts of yardage over the past two years from them, and have had two different kinds fall apart after sewing with them. I kept ordering from them because they have decent prices on heavy weight fabrics that you can't get elsewhere. The last time I ordered, I put in a sum of over $150. They sent me the wrong fabric. It's been three months of back and forth promises, and three requests for a refund. I still haven't received a refund, and had to escalate to requesting a "chargeback" from my bank and writing a complaint to the FTC. Order at your own risk. ** They have since refunded me and sent me a replacement fabric. It was a nice gesture, so I changed my review from a one star to two stars. read more

Good source of fabric made in USA and difficult to find fabrics. You really need to know fabric and have some leeway in your choices. I have had timely shipments and twice been contacted about substitute selections. So that's good. Cuts are also generous and that's a very good thing since the cutters must be very dull. My sources tell me the service has improved since covid. The cons are that you need to be flexible with color selections as the photos and descriptions are not always helpful. I ordered 3 yds of "antique rose" cotton/lycra and it's actually bubble gum pink and I hate it. I sew garments and don't need to worry about clients so I can be flexible. I really do search USA made before I go to any other section and that's the best advice I can give. I do wish they would consistently package the shipment in plastic bags because we live in a rural area and FedEx leaves the delivery out in any kind of weather. read more

I ordered some sweatshirt fabric that I ordered before. My initial experience receiving the fabric was good and I loved the quality so I ordered more. Unfortunately I began cutting and sewing the fabric before realizing it had holes within the first few yards. There was also a large seam running mid-way through it. And there was a portion of the end that was cut out. Needless to say I contacted Nick of Time and shared photos of my findings via email and Marc Malkovsky contacted me to ask whether the holes were in the middle of the fabric or on the ends so he could inspect it. I shared the holes were within the first couple of yards and a chunk cut out of end and I would just like the yardage replaced. After some back and forth he indicated that he would not replace the flawed fabric because they sent me 2 additional yards. He continued to state that he had "notes that we did this and remember now talking to my guy." Further he stated that I should have enough without them sending any more. The challenging part for me was there was no way of me checking because I had already cut the fabric. They never shared a note in the shipment -- NOTHING. And he was perfectly fine sharing that I would get nothing else. So, I was "jacked" out of $$$$ and fabric. Horrible customer service on his part. I researched the company and its a family business but need to provide some customer service training. I checked the BBB and they have an F rating :-( read more

Ordered two plain woven denim fabric. One order was as described, but the other was stretch denim. Owner claimed it was not and that I would have to pay to ship it back plus restocking fee. I have handled denim for 50 years and know stretch from non-stretch woven fabric. I risked ordering this fabric since they advertise that if the fabric is not as described you do not have to pay restocking and return. I'll give it to Good Will as it is useless for my purpose. I do not recommend anyone purchase from this company. Please, save yourself the nightmare I've gone through over the past month and spend your money at another fabric company. I have bought hundreds of dollars in fabric from Nick of Time over the past several years. I've often glossed over the mediocre quality because they have such low prices. Fabric that pills quickly that shouldn't, fabric with a weave that's not tight, a print that's not quite straight, ect. I've emailed them with questions about my order status, fabric availability, and sales. And every time I had gotten responses back fairly quickly by email or the chat function on their website. That is, until I was shipped damaged fabric. I received my order Nov. 9th and when I opened my box, I unrolled the bolt of fabric all the way, checked things over, and found that out of my 9 yard fabric cut 5 yards of it was heavily damaged along the selvages. I promptly took many pictures showing the damage and emailed Nick of Time pictures, my order number and details and asked for a refund. I waited several days for a response and got none so I reached out again. I called their store and was told to text a 929 number with pictures, my name and order number and again, was met with no response. In total, I reached out to Nick of Time SIX TIMES and was given no help and no refund. I came onto Facebook to read other reviews of Nick of Time and every review that did not recommend them had stories exactly like mine. So, I filed a chargeback claim with my bank. I needed this fabric for a commissioned job and I'm on a deadline and had to go to JoAnn's and purchase a replacement. About a week after I filed my complaint, I got an email from Nick of Time. Marc, the owner, claimed to know nothing about my issue and asked what was the problem. Well, the email account he used to contact me was the very first email I contacted on November 9th. I replied with dates and times and who I contacted to show that I did indeed contact his company. His reply was "What are you using the fabric for". A deflection. I replied that it was irrelevant, I needed a refund. His reply was that since I already purchased fabric to replace the damaged one, he "couldn't" help me any further. I responded to this email asking for a refund to which I have not gotten a response. The Fair Credit Billing Act 15 of 1974 US Code §§1666-1666j allows payments withheld for defective goods. You cannot, as a merchant, sell a consumer defective goods, it doesn't matter your return policy as a company, that's federal law. In my last email to him, asking for a refund, I reminded him of this. I promptly took screenshots of our correspondence and emailed them to the fraud department who is in charge of my chargeback claim. I have since filed a report with the FTC and left a review with the BBB, which shows Nick of Time to have an F rating. My hope is that Nick of Time's chargeback ratio gets too high and Visa will stop processing payments for them. Too many people have been treated terribly by this company. I hope my review will help others to avoid purchasing from Nick of Time and go elsewhere. If a customer has to file a chargeback claim because they can't get help from your company, you aren't following the law and you've failed as a business. If your quality assurance is so poor that it did not catch 5 yards of damaged fabric, you have failed as a business. If you, the business owner, refuse to follow even your own return policy, you have failed as a business owner. read more

I thought I'd try this website out since they had the best prices and varieties on denim. I liked the fact that they list the weights on each since I've had problems buying fabric online that turned out too lightweight for the items I usually make. I've requested samples a few times and always received them quickly. I always buy at least 11 yards so I get a fantastic price - about 1/3 the price of comparable fabric at other stores. Shipping is pretty quick and although I've never had to call the one time I had a question I received a prompt answer to my email. Bring in your cell phone! Had to write a review - yes it's a weird layout. You enter the office building/ warehouse and there is a sign on the wall to call for the elevator - call as in Phone Call. Someone will come down on freight elevator to take you up to sample room. (or walk up 4 flights of stairs as we did - phew). The sample room has all the approximately 12" x 12" fabric samples hanging for you to see with swatches. You order the product up and they retrieve it and cut what you need down in the warehouse. 11 yards or more is economical /add $2 yd for less than 11 yds. We had Velphia (hope I'm close on spelling) explain the whole process and everyone was very nice. I am used to tables with bolts of fabric so this takes some getting used to but prices for large qtys is good. Closes at 4pm. read more

During the COVID lockdown I started making masks to donate to anyone who needed them. I was searching for Pennsylvania based business that I could help since I live here. Found Nick of Time and was actually interested in their mystery box of fabric. Bought one which took 2 months to get to me. I understand the delay in shipping, everyone was struggling but only after I requested my money back did the material ship $85 for a 20 yard box of quality cotton material. Received an e-mail stating they were offering $65 Mystery Boxes specifically to be used for masks and gowns. Purchased a print box and they sent me a solid box. I received an e-mail from Marc asking me not to open the box, refuse it and send it back - too late, already arrived and was opened. In an effort to make things easier for him, I offered to buy the box. Quality of the cotton was not as good as the $85 box but I would make due with it. So I have purchased 2 boxes of the Mask and Gown Material. Received another e-mail promoting their $85 mystery box of cotton, decided I liked the quality so I would order again. Box arrives and it is the exact same material that was in the $65 box of mask and gown material. Feels like a bait and switch tactic. Had I not purchased the two previous boxes (one I truly didn't need but was trying to be a decent customer) I would not know that this is the box usually offered for $65.00. I contacted the warehouse and said I was returning the box. If they could send out the better quality cotton for $85 which is what I had expected and paid for, I would appreciate it - sure they would do that for me - this was 8/5/20, still waiting for the correct shipment. Have sent several e-mails to the warehouse, customer service and Marc - even enclosed a letter with my returned box but to no avail. Still have not been refunded. I guess my next e-mail will be to the Better Business Bureau. It's a shame the business doesn't value their customers and do quick follow through on their mistakes. Their $85 mystery box of cotton is extremely nice fabric and with the rate I am sewing masks - would be purchasing one every month if not every two weeks. I ordered fabric from this store, it took over 3 1/2 weeks to deliver. I can forgive the long delay in shipping but I cannot forgive the quality of the fabric. I ordered four different fabrics. When they arrived they look like they had been cut with a chain saw. I washed all the fabrics according to online instructions from this dealer. All fabrics faded horribly. Some were printed off grain and all were of very poor quality. I would not use them to make a dog bed much less a garment. There is a reason their fabric is cheaper them most, terrible quality. This place is awful, dealing with Marc was awful I have purchased 100 of yards from this place. I bought a bolt went to roll it out and there was one good yard, the rest was serged together from another bolt. They dye didn't even go thru. It was damaged, I sent emails many, left messages on his cell phone since November. I had to send him the name and picture of the fabric a few times. He had 25 yards, now he has none. I needed it for a customer, now I lost a job. Making real money. What does Marc say? I'll give you a refund when I said, I needed the fabric. I am beyond upset! Don't waste your time here. I ordered five yards of orange french terry and orange sweatshirt fabric on May 14. Given that the apocalypse is currently going on, I understood the 14 day wait to ship time. 16 days after I placed my order, I still hadn't heard anything, so I sent an email asking what was going on. They said they would ship the next day, but they didn't for two. Finally, I got my order: three things of various colored denims. But when I saw the savings I would realize by purchasing through Nick of Time, and their free sample policy, I decided to give them a try. WOW!!! I will be a forever customer! I do lots of interior design projects, and the linen cotton fabric and white denim fabrics that I ordered are perfect! I used both for slip overs and saved hundreds on fabric- but more importantly, was still able to maintain the quality I am used to. I wish I would have done some research before ordering here. I ordered 50 yds of fabric and after it hadn't shipped in two weeks, I followed up with the seller. No response. Days go by and I I have to file a dispute with Nick of Time. You'd think they would at least respond to the dispute. Now, after 3 weeks of non-response and a little research, I can see that their MO is to ignore or drag out any resolution process until you give up. I called again today and no one answered. Thanks to Nick of Time's lousy customer service, I had to reschedule a meeting with a client, because I did not have fabric samples to show her. Once again, I did not receive them in time for a meeting with the client that I ordered them for. The website states that they ship their swatches within 24 hours. THAT IS A BLATANT LIE!!! When I called 10 days after I ordered them, asking where they were, a very snarky, annoyed-sounding woman told me that they shipped "yesterday", which was 9 days after I ordered them. When I asked why they shipped so late, when the website says that they ship within 24 hours, she got even snarkier, and said "No. We ship them every few weeks." Well, today I FINALLY received the swatches, and they are not for the colors that I requested. These swatches are not what my client picked out. They are completely useless to me, and just leave me looking unprofessional in front of my client. WHY DID I GIVE THESE FOOLS A SECOND TRY?? Maybe I'm the real fool here. Don't be a fool. We were here, was hard to even tell where to go. We walked into a factory, walked into a tailoring cleaners business, walked into a yoga workout place and finally saw a sign that said Nicks ... Whatever it is lol... A huge poster of an elevator that said - Wait here- .... Said MON WEDS FRI open times and had a number and was the darkest scariest building of all time. As you walk the lights turn on, they whole building was full of sensor lights and I felt like me and my boyfriend were going to be chased down and murdered by scream or a crazy bum at any moment. I ordered two large rolls of fabric from Mark and the first roll was perfect. They advertised the fabric as 60 inches in width, but there was only 57 inches of usable fabric on the second roll, which didn't allow us to make what we need to. I called Nick of Time and after Mark yelled at me for about 15 minutes about how he didn't believe me and that my seamstress didn't know what she was talking about, I yelled back and he finally said he would try and fix it. He said he would text me right back with a pic of a new roll after we got off the phone. But it has been over a week now and he hasn't gotten back to me yet. I was more than willing to work with him, but his rudeness and lack of real help was some of the worst costumer service I have ever experienced. Found out about them online drove to the wear house they were closing in 30 minutes but worked with me bought a large quantity black denim there was some small flaws but over all high quality. They cut it and offered to put it on a roll for free but because I drive a small car opted to just have it folded. The only big thing was walking back to my car holding 100+ lb of denim sucked. I purchased from Nick of Time three times over three years. My first order in 2012 was for white denim to be made into slipcovers. The product was represented to be first quality,but seemed to be second quality but nothing the upholsterer couldn't work around and I reasoned that I got what I paid for since it was about 25% cheaper than the more reputable, well known stores. My most recent order (7/15/14) has been a disaster of epic proportions! Nick of Time sent a roll of fabric with such diffuse, severe dye flaws that no one could work around it. It looks like the whole bolt has been splattered with paint. Twice, I sent a very polite email asking the owner to address this. Five days later, I still had no reply, although I sent the e-mails to the owner's address, which he has always responded to within 24 hours. When he eventually responded, it was with personal insults and an absurd claim that he had no record of my order, although it was placed only two weeks before, I paid by credit card, and he personally sent me 5 or so emails including an order confirmation and two tracking e-mails (the first one had the wrong tracking number.) No apology for the defective product. No offer of any kind of refund. This total lack of professionalism really astonished me, since I was a repeat customer and more than polite. If you want a defective product, order from Nick of Time. If you think customer service should be a game, order from Nick of Time. If you simply yearn to be insulted, order from Nick of Time. The WORST customer service I have come across. I ordered fabric online and once I received it, one of the fabrics didn't match the sample I had and the other had a different color description than what I received. I emailed them in October about the issue. I would have been fine at this point if they had just processed my refund and moved on. With every email, I had to wait several days and send a reminder email to get a response. He asked repeatedly if I could just use it as is. I told him no repeatedly. I had to email back and forth with him for THREE months before he processed my refund in January. Countless unanswered emails and unhelpful responses - Nightmare situation and awful service.
