It was one of those days when I felt I really, really needed to get a haircut, but didn't feel like going all the way to SM Bicutan. I was walking along Saudi Arabia street when I saw Nicoline Salon and decided to give it a try.
I must admit feeling uneasy visiting a hair salon for the first time. But the person who cut my hair, they're called transgenders now, was friendly enough. I just asked him/her to take out about a month's worth of hair growth.
The haircut cost me P69.95 and I was pretty happy with the results. Of course there was the small matter of a tip. Whenever I get my hair cut anywhere and I'm happy with the results, I usually give a P50 tip. When not happy, I give P10 or P20, if at all.
Since I was being charged the equivalent of P70 anyway, saying "keep the change" meant that I was giving the person who cut my hair a mere P30 tip. After giving my P100, I had to ask the cashier for change for another P100, so I could give the usual P50.
The place is comfortable enough, and is not loud like other parlors. Since it's only a few meters from my place, I have to give Nicoline another try. But this time, I will bring enough change. read more
