While we were waiting to "meet the Mayor" we saw three groups try to walk up and be told it would be at least two hours. Even if it's becoming more mainstream, I still love the idea of speakeasies, and the little song and dance to get in to "see" The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town was a fun twist. It's an interesting spot because the primary bar is nothing to look at really, though for us Americans who grew up in the 80's the name ("The Breakfast Club") obviously sucks you in. But to get into Scaredy Cat Town, you definitely should make an online reservation. They're not hard to lock down, but we tried to get something on Thursday for Saturday and they only had bar seats left. Totally fine for just the two of us. When you walk in, you just tell them you're there to see the Mayor and within a few minutes, you are whisked through the door of an oddly placed refrigerator (yes, I've blown the surprise, but the "scaredy" cat is out of the bag by now anyway). The place is pretty much a dive, with an overabundance of random knick-knacks, signs, and what-not. Funky, funny, eclectic - you get it. But don't let that mislead your impression - it's a serious cocktail bar. They've got a wide range of original concoctions to choose from, and both the presentation and tastiness of our selections were excellent. The bartenders are friendly, and the music that night was essentially a playlist of one- and two-hit wonders from the 80's (again, right in our wheelhouse!). Totally fun, and a great way to start off our night! I wholeheartedly recommend that you schedule a meeting with the Mayor soon!

What a wonderful surprise and 'difference' in décor and service. On arriving at Broadgate the sounds of music hit our ears. We were, obviously, going the right way. As the circle opened in front of us it was going to be a fun few hours as everyone was dancing away. That was the first difference from the previous two Mr. Foggs. It was, we think, the inspiration of Mrs. Fogg. Another difference was you ordered at the bar and you took the drinks to your table. Cocktails were delicious but not quite as elaborate, nor were the glasses but that needed to be as most were being drunk outside. A mixture of all age groups and I include ourselves as we were the oldest there but never felt uncomfortable. Music was, as I said, LOUD. Everyone was having fun, as we were too. OK next stop will be the Gin Parlour, at some point in time. We love the Foggs venues for their quirkiness and individuality. For their different, unique, cocktails. We had the mac and cheese bites, the shrimp lollypops and chicken wings for apps and the table ordered a variety of dishes both times in. I had the curry dishes each night with the tofu. This is where things went south for me. The tofu tasted off, like it went bad in the sauce. I thought the first time was an off night but the second night with a different curry dish also with tofu, I am not sure if something was off in the sauce or what the tofu may have been marinated.. but I did not eat more than the first bite on my second night in. If you're unsure, just look for the guard standing around the corner, that should be the sign you're in the right spot. He'll let you downstairs without a password. We came on a Friday night and it was so packed, it was stuffy and hot. And that was before the DJ showing up! We grabbed a drink and left shorting because it was way too packed (it's not a big spot), the lounge area was reserved so everyone else had to hang at and by the bar. I guess the fun part was finding the spot.

It's not a place to be seen (a relief, as we know what this area can be like), but somewhere to enjoy a few drinks, perhaps before heading elsewhere. Inside it's a traditional East London pub; wooden, sport on TV and some friendly older female bar staff. The type of lady that was confused by my ordering of a 'lager top'. She might have even mocked me, but I'm ok with that. The outside is unique - green tiles and hanging flowers. It's got a nice feel to it this place, especially in the summer where the street is full of drinkers from here and the bar over the road.

And that meant we got to sit in this tiny tucked away little corner archway for just us 4 peeps and it was totally awesome. The cocktails were lovely and I really enjoyed our time here. Such a funky place. The cherry on top was the owner speaking to us after. It's really refreshing to have the actual owner come talk to you and show interest in how you heard of the place and how you Found (ha!) it. The smell of fresh paint, with it's a lovely warm atmosphere, magnolia walls, dark wood, candles on each table and lots of cocktails to choose from makes it a great after work or pre-party venue. I got the cocktail which was the first on the menu and it was called Frothy Lady (I think). Very sweet and hardly tasted the alcohol. The espresso cocktail tasted great too but couldn't taste the alcohol. So it got me wondering if they were being stingy or were they just really good. The jalapeño pretzels were really nice and the olives had too much lemon on them for my liking but I was hungry so ate them all anyway. It's next to The Book Club and a short walk from Old Street so if you're around give it a try!
