The staff person at the front desk was very welcoming and informative. It's a tiny museum and made very accessible and appropriate for school aged children. I'm sure local schools are sending field trips here all the time. That being said, I also enjoyed how the museum explained the cultural history of Connecticut. There's an entire room dedicated to historic tavern signs that my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed. In another area, we learned much about the Wide Awakes and their methods for getting Abraham Lincoln elected in 1860. In a third area, the we learned about why the Charter Oak symbolizes liberty. The museum also has rotating exhibits. We had just missed one about the history of chocolate and now they are setting up a new one about the origins of coffee. Overall, a delightful 1 hour spent for $6 a person (regular adult admission is $12 but another area was being renovated so we got a 50% discount).

You take the ski lift to the top of the mountain and walk down. I had never been on a ski lift before and in the dark in the woods gave me a little anxiety ha ha. The trail itself is OK. There's a lot of cool items set up and multiple emergency exits with the staff. There didn't seem to be enough actors on the trail. For me, it was too many people. If the people in front of you start walking too slow, you catch up to them. The actors jump out at them, not at you. There is a lot of walking that is downhill so be prepared for that. At the end, there was a party atmosphere with music, drinks, food, fire pits, etc. I liked the concept overall, but not great execution. they definitely need more actors on the trail.

I was genuinely excited about participating in the Holiday Market at Sonny's Place. I toured the grounds with one of their ambassadors, discussed my accessibility needs, and was told they'd help me secure a comfortable setup. I even took the time to alert their team about scam posts on Facebook from people pretending to collect vendor fees--trying to protect their community. Instead of being met with professionalism or gratitude, I was removed as a vendor without explanation. No courtesy call, no clarity, nothing but dismissive behavior from Mackenzie, the person handling vendor relations. After everything I shared and the effort I put in, her response made it clear how poorly these events are managed. To make matters worse, the building itself is not ADA accessible, which violates the basic principles of ADA Title III. As a full-time wheelchair user, that alone speaks volumes. Equal access should never be an afterthought. I came in with good faith, ready to create something beautiful for families and children. Instead, I left disappointed, stressed, and honestly shocked at how little care was given to accessibility or communication. Vendors--especially those of us in the disability community--should think twice before signing up. Avoid the headache and the heartache. You deserve better than this.

Scarecrows in all shapes and sizes were out near restaurants, shops, museums, and homes. It's sponsored by the Old Wethersfield Shopkeepers Association. Parking can be found on-street. We were able to find easy and free parking. The weather was beautiful on a perfect autumn day in October, when we went. The townspeople did a great job with decorating the scarecrows; they were creative and unique. We saw one that was a skeleton in a bathtub; another one were a handful of Olympic skeletons doing splits; another one with pumpkin heads; another one was a puppet and it's puppet master; a giant 12ft Skelly and its dog; and so many more. We enjoyed walking through, it was pretty busy especially at the shops and restaurants. There were people hosting tag sales on their front yards as well. Old Wethersfield is a great place to take a stroll and take in all that history. There's so much to see and if you're a history buff or just enjoy being outside or spooky season, I highly recommend checking this event out.

One more reason to come to storrs, I can't begin to express my new found respect for puppets and…read morethe art.. before my visit to this museum today I looked at puppetry to be child's play.... least did I know one can get a bachelors degree in it. This is Storrs "hidden treasure" the Ballard institute offers workshops, museum tours, lectures, performances, and programs that promote the art of puppetry. A marvelous collection of worlds puppets are displayed in the front lobby... from a 100 yr old shadow puppet from India depicting the epics to Egyptian shadow puppets, Vietnamese water puppets, Japanese rod puppets, masks from Brazil , Italian/American/Russian marionette .... some so complex..esp the Banraku puppets as the guide was saying takes 30 years to master..wow! the two other rooms display banners, cranks and cantastoria (a theatrical form where a performer tells or sings a story while gesturing to a series of images painted, printed on fabric or any material)....The tour was totally worth it, I learnt so much today. I'm definitely returning to watch a show here. They have shows scheduled almost every weekend this summer... check out the schedule on their website.

We had such a wonderful time at this farm!…read more Cavanna's Farm is a beautiful, rolling landscape nestled within rural Glastonbury (just minutes away from their upscale shopping and eating area). Located on the property is Gray Granite Railroad, a phenomenal museum experience that highlights rail travel in its antiquity. There are several restored rail cars and engines that transport you back in time as you enjoy the grounds. The owner hosts wonderfully planned holiday events for adults and children to enjoy. We had a blast at their Fall themed event, which included a ride on the train and pumpkin picking. The property also has a gorgeous stone dam that was built in the 19th century during the Civil War. This is a great attraction for engineers and other enthusiasts. Right now they're accepting cash, allowing BYOB for certain events, and maintaining precautions appropriate for outside gatherings. I highly recommend a trip to visit with the family!

Kidcity Children's Museum is a children's museum that opened in Middletown, Connecticut in…read moreSeptember 1998. It was founded by Jennifer Alexander. She originally founded Kidcity as a homegrown non-profit organization in 1994 in attempt to make Middletown a more desirable place for families with young children. The circa 1835 historic Camp-Sterns House was donated by St. Sebastian's Church after the building retired from a 70-year career as their convent. The City of Middletown donated a portion of a public parking lot as a new site for the house. In March 1997, the old house moved 400 feet down Washington Street. Extensive renovations were done to the house and permanent hands-on exhibits were created by local artist Ted Esselstyn. The museum opened to the public the following year. The museum doubled in size in 2003 when a new addition was put on. My family and I have visited Kidcity a number of times since my wife and I began having children. We've been to a lot of children's museums over the years, but we think that Kidcity is easily the best one in Connecticut. Not only do our two sons have a lot of fun, but also my wife and me! Our most recent visit was this past August. There are so many different rooms and exhibits for children to engage in pretend play. Some of the rooms include The Ship, The Farm, Main Street, Video Theater, Space Age Roadtrip, and The Cornfield. There's even the Toddler Sea Caves on the basement level that our younger son enjoyed exploring. We usually end up staying for at least two hours, but I'm sure that our two boys could be engaged there for much longer. If you're looking for a fun indoor activity for families with young children, then head to Kidcity!
