Seated next to a picture window so as to enjoy the subdued glow of the white, blustery powder of the snow outside, I ordered a gourmet coffee and chatted comfortably with my companions as the wait staff quietly and efficiently worked on preparing our orders in the kitchen. The food at De Kelder at Strawtown was delicious. It provided a gentle and palatable cuisine of smoked meats and grilled wheatberry bread. These tasty orders, combined with its relaxed atmosphere, were the perfect backdrop to an otherwise simple, ordinary Saturday afternoon in Pella, Iowa. The only downside to the dining experience of De Kelder at Strawtown was its absence of selection on its lunch menu. But what this restaurant lacks in quantity it more than makes up for in the quality of its existing dishes. I highly recommend this local treat.

The host and owner, Jeff, was great. He was talkative but not intruding. He called me a few hours before check-in to ask what kind of wine we liked so that he could put a complimentary bottle on ice. We searched and found Van Ko and were amazed at the great pricing and choices! We rented the Bunkhouse. A little older than the others, and quite large (36') but for the two of us and our 2 beagles, it was perfect. We drove all the way to Utah to Zion, and the Grand Canyon. 2 weeks total. There were a few SMALL hiccups, but nothing that changed our enjoyment of the vacation. Easily fixed, and having them easily available on a text or email with questions really helped! We both were pleasantly surprised when we had to take showers in the RV because a few of the parks we stayed at didn't have showers. It was clean and efficient. The bed was SOOO comfortable! I slept well every night. Took a while to get used to the size and speed of the RV, but once we got the hang of it, it was second nature. We didn't even consider or think about mileage per gallon. It is what it is. You're carrying your entire hotel room/house with you everywhere! There is PLENTY of storage, and it really felt like our home. Was strange to leave it behind when we dropped it off...as we had lived it in a little over 2 weeks. They were so kind, understanding, and helpful. Very trustworthy people. It was an experience we'll never forget! And we hope to rent from them again!
