What it does have are two huge pavilions that you can reserve or just claim as first come first serve, super clean bathrooms, a big playground, and abundant green space and trees. It's a beautiful place to walk around if you want to see some nature but don't have time to drive to a state park.

Holmes-Foster is a great park for several reasons…read more First, there's lots of shade - which is especially important in those summer months. Second, there's plenty of green space and a great big hill to run up and down for those who have extra energy. Third, there are two separate playgrounds. The one uphill is great for the bigger kids. It has a larger play structure, a climbing wall, a slide, and a basketball court. The one downhill is great for the littler ones. It has a small play structure, a great little "bus" for kids to play in, some ride-on toys, and some swings. What's more - there are bathrooms, 2 picnic pavilions, and a water fountain. You can get to the park two different ways: 600 S. Sparks St. (upper playground) & 901 Westerly Pkwy (lower playground). We usually park in the Westerly lot, which is right across the street from Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church.

This is a great place to visit if you have active kids, especially if they love to climb. There are all sorts of ladders & tunnels to climb, plus some of the longest slides in State College. The play structures for the younger & older kids are right next to each other, so the kids were mostly running back & forth between them, rather than staying on the structure that was designated for their age group. The other cool thing in this park is an updated merry-go-round. Kids either climb inside and ride that way, or they hang from the ropes/bars, but regardless of how they ride - it seems like fun! The original play equipment is still there, so there are still a few swings just across the field from the new park. Orchard Park is huge - it covers nearly 20 acres, and includes a walking/bike path, basketball & tennis courts, soccer fields, an amphitheater, picnic areas, ... and bathrooms (right next to the older playground.) To reach the new play area, just drive a ways down Bayberry Dr. (from Blue Course), and the playground is right behind the parking area. The official address is: (1060-1106 Bayberry Dr. State College, PA)

However, that means parking was much easier to find & closer to the building. Lines were relatively short going in. There was a nice selection of concessions. Got great seats for very low cost! It's a quaint college town--lots of shops & restaurants nearby. Attended the TobyMac concert w/3 opening acts: Zach Williams, Seph Schleuter & Jamie McDonald. Nice light effects, confetti drops & white smoke effects. Good sound quality overall. We stayed overnight in order to avoid 4-hr round trip. Hotel was only 10 mins from venue. Would definitely return!!

Parking is a nightmare, no other way to explain how badly it's handled. Getting in, the bag policy is pretty common, a clear bag or a tiny wallet and then walk through a metal detector. They scan your ticket at the door and the madness of a 30-minute wait for a wristband to get alcohol and another half hour for the actual drink begins. Last night, we were there for a concert: From Ashes to New, Three Days Grace and Shinedown. We bought our tickets at the door for half the price they're offered for on-line. The lady in the ticket office was extremely knowledgeable about seating and recommended the sidestage area. The tee-shirt line took 20 minutes. By the time I got my shirt, it was time for the show to start. I could see perfectly from our seats. Hubby missed half the first band because of the chaos over what wristband was needed for a 50-year old man to have a beer. The music was incredible. The acoustics are perfection and you can literally feel the base hit your chest. The lighting has always been a problem there. They didn't consult a photographer. We'll still go back for events because we bleed Penn State blue and white, but hope they fix the chaos.

No mention of it being closing time, just lights off, time to go! On my way out, I asked him, "Do you have somewhere to be?" & that he "shouldn't turn the lights out with customers still inside." His response- "It's 9 o'clock." Which I responded, "Are you the owner?" & he responded "Yes." If this is the case, that the OWNER doesn't care about his customer's experience, I will for sure be taking my business elsewhere. I'm not sure where he was taught that his schedule getting out of work was more important than the paying customer's experience. As somebody who has worked in customer service my entire adult life (not to mention at this same gym 7 years ago), that's a foreign concept to me. As a manager or GM, if I found out my employees were putting themselves above the customers in this way, they'd be written up or let go. My advice? Do better. The BARE MINIMUM is you wait to close until everyone is gone. & if it gets to be 5-10mins after, you politely let the customers know you are closed & need to start closing. Customer Service 101, Day 1. If management, or (apparently) ownership encourages this type of customer service, it's no wonder places like Crunch Fitness & Victory Sports have taken what looks to be most of the business from East Coast.

It costs only $5 more per month and offers a variety of activities and (free) courses; take advantage of the pools, rock climbing walls, yoga sessions, basketball and volleyball courts etc. It has much more of a community feel to it, to boot. Plus, I think we can all agree on the fact that Hamilton Plaza -- for some reason or another -- has become a rather depressing spot nowadays...am I right, or am I right?
