The second time I've been to the slick, modern Japanese eaterie. Visually and physically comfortable, we got placed in exactly the same seats as last time, maybe they have a special formula for seating arrangements? Anyway fast and friendly service with a smile meant we were quickly ordering our meal.
I went for the beef kushiyaki skewers to start, and we shared a 20 piece moriawase sushi platter for the main. I can state that the beef was thinly cut, nicely cooked and tender with its sticky teriyaki sauce. I wolfed it down fast, I had to as my partner watched ravenously. She didn't have to wait long though. The platter came and was a tasty mix of maki and nigiri of various varieties, including but not exclusively salmon, tuna, prawn, eel, mackerel and egg. It was all good in flavour and each individual sushi was substantial, however a downside was that the rice for the nigiri was not sticky enough, consequently some fell apart as you lifted them. A minor gripe you may think, but with chopsticks it's an issue, and frankly it's a basic sushi skill getting the rice right. For once I felt I would have a dessert, and so I ordered a sweet red bean filled rice pancake. Blehhhhhh! My fault probably, but I found it too doughy and way too sweet.
The basic sushi rice error and the over-sweet pancake for me mean just about a four. read more
