I had previously had take away sushi from Tatakii and been less than impressed with the quality of…read morethe maki. Eating in house, however, proved a much better experience.
The service was exeptionally friendly and attentive. We started off with two sashimi dishes - salmon with grapefruit and ponzu sauce was fresh and perfectly balanced, and the tun tartare with coriander cream on wonton crackers was so good that we had to order another serving of it.
After the sashimi, we had two types of maki - the tempura lobster maki, and the spicy tuna. Both were delicious and quite rich, with a generous amount of very nice spicy mayo. The spicy tuna maki was made with tarragon and avocado, which was a very nice and aromatic combo.
Tatakii could have had more wines by the glass, but the ones the have are very good. Alongside the food, we had a lovely glass of riesling from the Pfalz region, which worked very well.
