Nisantasi Baskose is right across the street from the Park Hyatt but hardly anyone speaks English here and the menu is all in Turkish so prepare in advance - especially if ordering take out. Mevsim Salata - mixed greens, cabbage, cucumber, green onion, tomato, parsley (weird) and lemon. Like most Turkish outfits I learned, salad dressing is persona non grata but least there were some lemon slices. Effort is there for a well thought out seasonal salad. Patlican Kebap (Eggplant + meat) Mixed kabab with eggplant blocks and beef chunks. Tavuk Kanat (chicken wings) Probably the most "yummy" on the list here. It's got a different charred flavor - might be a little tumeric involved not totally sure but it's unique, and better than you're regular chicken wings. Karisik Kebap (combo mixed meat kebab) Packed with a lot of goodies here - gyro slices are on the dry and over salted side. There's more solid chicken wings and chicken kabab which is also very flavorful and tender. There's also a spiced sausage type of meat that is more crumbly but pretty good. All supported by orange couscous and two large peppers (not spicy) All the dishes come with a small fortune of lavash and they packed in a separate bag of more layers as well. If you are staying at the Park Hyatt or St Regis, this should be on your list. Gracious and professional service, tasty food, just baked Lavash AND reasonable prices. Sure, little English is spoken, so don't try to order an exotic drink. Just go with it. We went at 8 pm and had inside to ourselves. I even did takeout Hummus for less than $4US! I've been told to be careful about this as some places may give you different prices based on where you look like you are from. We were offered Mezze, which looked like nothing special compared to other places we have been to, but I already sensed we would be charged, and prices were not told to us upfront. Came here with colleagues for a late dinner. Great food and friendly service. Portions were generous and the prices were reasonable. I enjoyed the cold and hot appetizers as well as the lamb dishes. Generally very good food, but absurdly overpriced, and items are presented in a way which makes it hard to see how much they'll cost. They bring a large platter of separate appetizers (200-400 TRL each) to select from, main dishes a comparable amount, and then bring by other things on trays (tiny tiny pide and lamacun) and charge similarly high prices for them. I had lunch and it cost USD 70 (with no alcohol); I had dinner at the Ritz-Carlton's superior restaurant and it was USD 50/person for much more and better food with beer and wine, and the night before that dinner at the Park Hyatt Nusr-Et for USD 60. read more

Walked in here late on a Saturday with a couple of family members for dinner. We are at St Regis and the place was a 2 minute walk so decided to have dinner here based on the previous Yelp reviews. We had reservations so we're seated right away although the server wasn't too excited that we requested to be seated far from the smokers and noise. The music was too loud to even hold a conversation which was later turned down thankfully. The food was decent and nothing extra ordinary. We ordered the lamp chops , a couple of Kababs , a salad and the bread pudding. Bread pudding was the best part I would say. Overall the food is decent to be honest. What I have an issue with at an establishment like this is the service and dishonesty. The servers just pretend to ignore you at times and it seems to be a constant trend with a few of the people working that I observed. Finally the bill was wrong and it was very intentional. As I started going through the bill the sever walked away. Some reviewers have mentioned they will bring you food and make it seem like it's for tasting but they will end up charging you for that. I did not accept the food they brought yet I was charged for it. If you don't speak Turkish in this country everyone will try to rip you off - from the cab drivers to the high end restaurants - I didn't ask for him to correct the bill since we already spend ages at this place and it wasn't worth the 45 TL however do go through your bill if you care about it. I have always maintained - no matter how good your food is , you can serve the food from heaven but without good service it'll always be one star ! read more

Excellent and elegant kebap restaurant, which resembles a more of a fine dining establishment vs. a kebap house. Definitely get the baskose specials by name. They are their special versions of adana kebaps. Their service is impeccable. Pass on the kokorec, very dry. Their soups, etc. are also very nice. We were recommended this place by the concierge at the Ritz Carlton Istanbul. ATMOSPHERE: Indoor & outdoor seating done in a black & white bistro theme. MENU: Kebabs & other Turkish cuisine. The menu is fairly large. A whole tray of apps got brought to our table before we could even order our beverages. FOOD: House Bread - It was a puffy triangle which was soft & tasty. Artichoke with Potatoes & Carrots - Good little app to start with. Everything tasted boiled similar to corned beef & cabbage. Lamb & Goat Cheese - Done in a small puffed pastry-like pocket and served on a savory dough. Very tasty. Kebab Sampler - Mixture of beef, chicken, lamb & onion rings and some lava (similar to a tortilla shell,) roasted tomatoes & green chiles. The meats were super tasty and cooked well. It came accompanied with side dishes of sour cream & spinach, and cous cous. We made ours into burritos. DESSERT: Künefe - It looks more like an app than a dessert. The circular disc of cake noodle-like dough is baked in butter & syrup then topped with whipped cream. The flavor was medium sweet and the texture a crunchy-chewy. Big enough for 4 to share. Per every one of the other reviews, I was referred by the concierge at the W and to be honest it did not disappoint... It was probably about $50 just for me but it was well worth it with a couple of glasses of wine delicious appetizers their signature kebab... And fabulous service. If you check yourself out for a good meal in Chicago or New York, you were going to pay more than $50. Changed my review to FIVE stars. Three quarters of this place for locals and the waitstaff here I've got Service down to a science... Eight of us came here for a long family dinner and the food was never ending and drinks flowing. We had what I remember to be everything. Mini appetizers and rose. FOOD: I apologize for not being more detailed on names but I took note of the two below: We Had about 10-15 different things but My top two recommendations are Adana and kunefe!! It is so good that I would sit in a closet and eat five of each in one sitting!!!! Omg. Thank god this is near our cousin's home because I'm making hubby bring me back here as much as possible for the above indulgence. DRINKS: Hubs and I had rose but looked like there is everything you could possibly want there. VIBE: snappy casual and new-yorky. This is the restaurant that every fancy hotel will recommend. We stayed at the W Hotel and that was the first time we were here. This was recommended by the Shangri-La Hotel either they pay a high commission to the concierge or the food is indeed fantastic coming into this restaurant on a October evening on a chilly rainy nights and being received with kindness was exceptional. Place on a Monday was relatively empty but the service none the less fantastic appetizers on demand an immediate as well alcohol of any shoes this is definitely a restaurant for the Western and preferred tourist. read more

My colleague and I wanted to stay relatively close to the hotel for dinner so we asked the hotel concierge for a recommendation and we were sold out Kosebasi. We grabbed a quick drink nearby in the fashion district before coming to the restaurant for dinner. We asked for a table outside - which was nice that it wasn't a too busy street. It was nice to see the cold starters - we went with the couscous and hummous. Yes they automatically served us bread but it's something we would've ordered anyway. It was pipin' hot and went perfectly with the starters. If you have trouble deciding, they're quite happy to do a mixed grill for you - mixed with a mince kebab, chicken and lamb plate. Great if you'd like to try a couple of things to share. It was nice - not by any means the best I've had in Turkey but overall a good dining experience. read more

Well prepared Turkish specialties Two of my colleagues shared three Turkish dishes at this very popular restaurant. We had the Doner kebab, grilled lamb and grilled chicken with onion rings. Very tasty. The service was a bit rushed so only a 3 stars. Maybe it was just a bad night for our server but he kept rushing us. We are two Americans on honeymoon in Istanbul, and our hotel concierge recommended this place. We are so glad he did, and can't believe there aren't more reviews of this place! The atmosphere is loud and lively, so come expecting to lean into your table mate to keep up a conversation. Service is done in the traditional Turkish way, and it sounds like previous yelpers weren't expecting that. Basically, you are expected to know what you want and be very vocal as a diner. As soon as you sit down water is poured for you and their delicious bread basket is served. The bread is cooked right beside you in their wood oven! So fresh. They bring out a tray of mezes for you to pick from. You can ask for as many or as few as you would like...let your eyes be your guide! Our waiter spoke perfect English, which was a big help when describing the mezes. Our favorite was the yogurt, eggplant, garlic, olive oil spread that was perfect to put on their homemade bread. We had to ask for a full menu, because traditionally people just know what they want and never even have to see a menu. Just ask for it, and you shall receive. I had the Ali Nazik, ground seasoned meet with more of that yogurt eggplant dip...divine! My husband had a traditional kebab plate spicy. He thoroughly enjoyed the meal. I also had to ask for a wine list and chose the Leona Chardonnay. I'd recommend it if you like strong peach bouquet. Their wine list was impressive. Outdoor and indoor dining options. We were inside and our table was a mere inches away from the next table, so be prepared to get friendly. Service was efficient and done with a smile. We left knowing we'd be back. This one of the most overvalued restaurant in istanbul. As I have sat on the table, 10 tl water bottled was opened without asking me. Then after I selected starter and main dish a very 2 small pide prices was dropped on me. The kebab has high fat content and the bill counted the pide price. I asked the waiter. He said you eat it and enjoy it you pay for it. Be careful of this restaurant as they will serve you things you did not order and put you on awkward position such opening water bottle without asking you if you want water or not and slip tiny pide and charge you for it.
