I have been a loyal NJM auto and homeowners policyholder for nearly 20 years and have paid many thousands of dollars in premiums over that time. This May, I paid my renewal premiums in full. Then, in July NJM charged my account an additional premium retroactive to April 2024. I was shocked to receive a bill for coverage dating back more than two years. My only regret is not switching to State Farm sooner. First year was great, then came a 40% increase on my auto insurance with generic response when inquired, oh cost of everything is going up blah blah blah then another large increase this year, so I switched to State Farm, I'm saving over $1000 a year on auto insurance now for better coverage?! NJM is a total bait and switch company. I went online to explore new auto insurance. I fed in all vehicle information, drivers with license numbers and requested coverage limits. I know specifically what I want so there was no detail overlooked and I could have an apples to apples fair comparison. So the website spits out a very attractive annual quote and I move quickly to make the purchase only to be sent a message that I need to call in to complete the process. Now I have to go through a 20 minute process with a person and sit through all the upgrade nonsense I don't want to get to the actual annual premium and the price more than DOUBLED!!!! I was on the phone for 47 minutes between all the bs and the hold delays while they reviewed. Shameful way to conduct business. I would have more respect for a pricey premium if they didn't bait me online with a lowball offer. Don't use this company. Terrible customer experience. read more

Extremely disappointed with this company's handling of my claim. Despite clear evidence of water leaks on both the first and second floors of my home -- which obviously points to a roofing issue -- they refused to cover any repairs to the roof. Their explanation? They claim there was "no windstorm damage" to the roof, even though leaks don't happen without a failure somewhere in the roof system. Multiple roofers came to inspect and felt there was clear damage to flashing etc where water leaked. It feels like they are using technicalities to avoid taking responsibility, even while acknowledging the interior damage caused by these leaks. Common sense would tell anyone that water doesn't leak through multiple stories unless there's an exterior problem, yet they refuse to cover it. This process has been frustrating, dismissive, and left me feeling like this company cares more about avoiding payouts than actually helping homeowners when it matters. I would not recommend them to anyone looking for honest or reliable coverage. read more

When you need them, don't expect them to be there for you. Had a car accident where someone hit me. Police report stated it was clearly not my fault. People that hit me apologized profusely. The only people who didn't stand behind me was NJM, my insurer. They claim it was partially my fault. The person that hit me also had NJM. I had an issue with this company regarding renewal of my automobile policy in Connecticut. My policy automatically canceled on 1/1 due to a company error. Apparently payment needed to be received prior 1/1 to renew the policy. I called the customer service on 1/4 where he admitted they did not have my information, correct. Seeing it was only a couple of days after the first of the year I asked if I could make payment to reinstate the policy where I was denied by the underwriting department because payment was not received before 1/1. This left me uninsured, which required by law in Connecticut and other states of course. Luckily, I was able to go to another carrier to get a new policy stay far away from this company as their practices are very poor and not giving their customers the benefit of the doubt. read more

I authorized an $18 charge, but later saw I had a second charge of $12. Theyre not telling me why I owe the extra $12 and are being extremely vague. I lived in my house 25 years with no claims. Last year we had two situations and our home insurance with AAA dropped us. We had less than a month to replace it and we were going away so we had to move quickly. We contact NJM because of their commercials and being a NJ based company. They tripled our premium from all of our previous policies. 2 k to 6k. And they required mostly ridiculous repairs and compliance or they would raise it higher. We spend $15K on that which depleted our funds significantly. We were in crisis and they took advantage. They will squeeze as much out of you as they can. They tried to make me believe that other than reduce our coverage to less than we have ever had, there is nothing they can do. No this what they choose to do. So if you contact them, make sure of what you have now and what you're paying now. And if you have a claim on your record get ready to have to pay 3-4 times what you have been paying. My homeowner's insurance jumped 60% from 2023 to 2024. I lost my car insurance policy with them, which was my fault, i guess. However, a 60% increase is insanely GROSS! GREEDY come to mind. 1275.35 to 2041.40! 25% savings from auto policy bundle still leaves a 35% additional increase. OMG! 25 year customer = nothing. Since going public, all that's cared about is PROFITS, not customers. So, NJM was in touch and after a more thorough review, could save a stellar amount of 109.00. I found a comparable with even better benefits with Progressive, NJM's competitor at the same i was paying NJM in 2023. I also noted on NJM's website that the Tustpilot reviews are set to favorable review settings, so NJM looks good. Very sad! read more

I have been with NJM for 30 years for both auto and home. I received my auto renewal paperwork on May 16th after I added a newer truck to my policy. I knew what the premiums were for my other vehicles and they had naturally not changed. On May 19th I took an older truck off my policy and all of a sudden, ALL of my premiums were increased. In a matter of 3 days, my premiums went up on all 3 of the vehicles that were on my policy. When I called to ask why the prices changed, a representative named Omar was very condescending and unhelpful. I called back and spoke with Steve who was nicer and explained that the ratio of drivers and vehicles made the premiums go up. So ridiculous and I am now shopping around for a new insurance company. read more

I initiated a quote with the company online. They first claimed they couldn't verify my insurance and requested a letter from my current carrier confirming my coverage, which I provided. Then, they asked for another letter specifically stating there was no lapse in coverage, and I supplied that as well. After over an hour on hold, I explained to the customer service representative that the accident they pulled on their reports involved my son, who lives separately and has his own insurance, and I provided the police report indicating he was the driver. He informed me that he needed yet another letter from my insurance company identifying the driver. This entire process--to get a quote--has been overly complicated and frustrating. With over 35 years in the personal lines insurance industry, I never put my clients through such hoops for a quote. This has been a terrible first experience with the company, and I dread to think how difficult it will be to file a claim. read more

For anyone who has condo coverage in NJ, you need to cancel your NJM policy immediately. My condo community was devastated by a fire, and as a result, my HOA imposed an added assessment of 570 dollars a month to every owner. Despite having added assessment coverage on my NJM policy, NJM denied my claim, stating that the 570 dollars per month was not the result of a fire. I am the ONLY owner in my community who did not receive reimbursement from their insurance company. It's embarrassing and truly unacceptable. NJM should be deeply ashamed. I've since canceled my policy and am calling NJM regularly to check the status of my refund check. The cost of my claim was actually less expensive than my policy premium, so NJM lost money by being crooked ba*tards. I have been a NJM customer for approximately 30 years. In 30 years. I have never missed a premium payment For 28 of those 30 years I have paid my premiums with zero payout of any claims. My driving record is spotless. My husbands is as well. No points for either if us in that time period. In 2021, NJM paid out $349 and because of that I am missing out on at least a 10 percent discount on my premium. My current policy is exorbitant. Somewhat due to my young drivers, but also because NJM is taking advantage of my long term staus as a customer. They are bringing on new customers at half the rate we are paying. They also just accepted liability on a claim without fully investigating the situation. They did this as an excuse to raise my premium yet again. The other driver was trying to scam us and they adjuster took their side. Sounds like they will do whatever they can to make a buck. Who cares about good paying low risk customers. Website defunct in offering quote. Took my information and then had me call with no quote. I got "Ricky" who asked me if I had continuous coverage the past 6 month. I am 55 and have had continuous coverage for my vehicles and motorcycles for the past I dunno 35 years. So before I can even get a quote to see if this is worth my time he says I need a letter of continuous coverage with a company letter head, my name, policy number etc. At this point I said NOPE! This is not worth my time to even investigate if I am even interested in switching. Good job with the terrible customer service. Now NJM does not even exist. read more

Another year has passed and the incompetent IT department at NJM still has not figured out how to allow auto policyholders to download the insurance ID card to their smartphones. Almost all other auto insurance companies have this capability. What this means is if you need a new insurance ID card, you CANNOT legally drive your car until that paper ID card arrives in the mail. Instead of addressing my original concerns, I received an email basically TELLING ME TO STOP TALKING TO THEM VERBALLY, based upon my demeanor. I will admit, I do become upset when their agents lie or should I put in there terminology "misinform" me... or after I provided my FULL name instead of calling me Mr. (Last Name), the agent says Mr. (First Name). That is rude and disrespectful and was told such. However, on several occasions, I was refused to be transferred to same level agent (to deescalate the situation) because "this was the highest level of customer support" and they couldn't transfer laterally, I would have to hang-up and go thru their oh so wonderful IVR system. How would you act after 6 months of asking for a response and providing them proof of their wrongdoing, what would your demeanor be? FINALLY, FINALLY, the legal department has become involved to investigate after my reply basically saying "no". As I have said in my many previous emails I would like answers, not apologies. Over the course of our relationship I always found NJM's customer service and claim handling to be exemplary. However, while never the lowest cost provider, in recent years their rates have skyrocketed many multiples past inflation and their competitive set with nothing but boilerplate rationale to offer. As a long-standing customer, it was almost take it or leave it. Well guess what... Maybe the recent expansion of their risk pool to encompass everyone in the state rather than their historical reliance on select corporate customers is one possible explanation. While, I'll certainly pay more for quality I won't dig deeper for unsubstantiated increases because they're getting their head handed to them by Geico and other discounters. Bye bye NJM. read more

My insurance went from 1900 to 2300 in 2024. My renewal quote was 3890. Called to ask why and they said it's 6100. Redid credit cause they had incorrect info and took 400 off. Never got a ticket in 28 years with them. Every accident I got deductible back and was never at fault. I had a 2008 I paid 2300 for full coverage and bought a 2022 car. I wouldn't of bought car knowing you want 6100 a year. They said 3890, as did my renewal form. 5 years from now there will be class action lawsuit against these companies and we will get check for 20.11. inflation and them deciding to let anybody sign up for their insurance is gonna cost them good customers. 28 years and they could care less if I leave. Bet they aren't giving their employees raises to match inflation. During covid they cleaned house with nobody on the road. Guess that wasn't enough. Only reason I gave them 2 stars is their employees are actually good people and always helpful. These other companies look like crap too. Horrendous Customer Service We had a squirrel(s) chew through a fuel tank fitting on our Ram Longhorn. We were leaving for vacation within a week. I called the local Ram dealer, and they ordered a new tank and gaskets that would be required. They placed a "rush" on the order knowing my situation. I also contacted NJM Insurance Company and reported the incident. I supplied pictures of the damaged tank to NJM Insurance Co. A day or two later, I received a call from Darlene Batista of NJM Insurance. I was not available to take the call but did return the call withing minutes and was dumped into her voicemail. I left a message to call back ASAP and I would standby to receive her call. She never called back until the following day. Again, I was unable to receive her call but did return the call at my first opportunity. No answer and went into her voicemail. I attempted to contact her 5-6 times with no luck. Then an appraiser contacted me through email. They wanted to evaluate my vehicle before any work was performed. They were adamant about coming to my home and evaluating the damage to my fuel tank. That was fine but I asked if they were bringing a lift or how they intend to climb underneath my vehicle. I knew the answer...they couldn't, and it would be a waste of my time. The appraiser's supervisor agreed with me. So my new fuel tank arrives two days before our departure on vacation. The service manager squeezes me into their busy schedule, to have the tank replaced. I called NJM Insurance Co. to let them know the status of the repair. I couldn't get in contact with Darlene so I spoke with another representative and explained the situation. She spoke with her supervisor and asked to have the replaced tank set aside for inspection by the appraiser. That's fair enough, and I advised the dealer to save the tank for the insurance company. In the middle of the job, the appraiser calls the service manager and tells him to stop working on my vehicle until she sees the vehicle. Fortunately, he called me to ask what's happening and I told him to continue, and get the job done. I already paid for the tank, a week before, and I was also fronting the payment for the labor. I needed the vehicle ASAP! So, the appraised sees the tank the following day and writes up an estimate for a USED tank. I was also told by the service manager that she berated him for repairing my vehicle without her inspection. Our vehicle is like new and has always received perfect service. The problem with a used tank, I'm also getting a USED fuel pump inside the tank. There was a huge discrepancy in price between used and new. I sent pictures of our vehicle to Darlene to prove the condition of the vehicle. It still has the factory plastic protecter on the door sill molding! It literally looks new. They supposedly are making payment for reimbursement of the new tank. I haven't seen the check yet. But the claim and entire process was made very difficult by the people involved. And what's with repairing with USED parts when NEW parts are available??? Very poor customer service!!! Awful. Based on this experience, I would never recommend NJ Manufacturers Insurance Company. I keep getting letters from Cam Maio in marketing from MJM Insurance that could save me an average of 25%. Great. I have called them at 833-541-3792 at least a dozen times. They keep telling me I need a letter from AAA Insurance on their letter head with my policy #'s (or they can't quote), that I are current on my policies. AAA sent letter without letter head. Another time without policy numbers. Either AAA doesn't want to lose a customer or NJM doesn't want my business. MJM got all my info including date of birth which is 76. I heard that if you are to old they don't want your business and give you a hard time. I talked to their underwriting dept. today and got the same answer. I ask to be transferred to Cam Maio. UPDATED REVIEW: I contacted NJM after the rates of the company I was with for 30 years skyrocketed. Unfortunately, within the time I was waiting for an interior inspection to be done and sent to NJM, NJM's rates went up. There was also a square footage error in my home's inspection report which increased the quoted premium. NJM was responsive, explained the rate increase, corrected the square footage error, and re-ran the numbers to my satisfaction. I'm giving 4 stars because of my initial experience with NJM (I do wish I had a heads up on the company's rate increase when I started the process), but I did had a very nice conversation with an executive team member. If I ever have to put in a claim (hopefully not), I'm confident that NJM will handle it as well as my former company. read more
