However i was looking for a new toy for my dog and was visiting Aldi (which is just a couple of doors away) so i popped in. The store is very large and warehouse-like. The service tills at near to the front door however no staff smiled when i entered and i couldnt see any on the shop floor. It seemed quite unwelcoming in many ways and i really think that management could do so much more to make it into an inviting space. That said, if you know what you are looking for it has a very wide range of products including dog foods (wet, dry and frozen), toys, leads...to be honest they had absolutely everything (except a little bandana that ive wanted to find for my dog but i will let them off for that as i wouldnt really want a pet shop full of novelty stuff!). You are allowed to take your dog in with you - ive never taken mine in however i do like going in and talking to other dog owners and petting their dogs!. There is ample parking space outside too. I have now visited a few times and the staff have always failed to impress me however this week an older lady on the till was really helpful and spent some time talking to me about how to wean my dog off wet food and introduce dry food - we need more staff like her in this shop and we need them on the shop floor instead of just on the till - this would make the place much more inviting. I would recommend the shop - particularly for leads (they have extendable leads which are weight rated meaning that you get the best one for your dog's size) and the extensive dog food available but dont expect friendly or particularly knowledgeable service :(

Saying that, the staff have always been very polite and helpful whenever I've asked them about anything, and the range of stock is fabulous. I take my 4 cats in for their vaccinations - it's way cheaper than going to a private vets, which helps when you're on a budget, and the vet is always very professional. I think the management should do more to promote the business in the local community, such as handing out flyers with discounts for certain products, or something like that to get more people through the doors. We are a nation of animal-lovers, they have some good discounts in there but no-one knows about them unless you actually go in store and hunt around, and many peeps just don't have the time to do that.

However they do have everything you need for basic pet care; from vitamins and minerals to massive cages, so I treated my hamster. They also have a small aquarium and reptile centre but for some reason that isn't always open. I wasn't surprised about the animal care because the staff didn't seem to care much either. I asked for a cage within my budget and the woman just pointed in the direction, not guide me there. Not only that I had to take it from the top shelf because there was no one there to help! Talk about breaking the safety rules. When I got the check out the woman could see I was struggling to fit the large cage in the bag so what did she do? Carried on serving other people whilst I was still at the check out! So I had to bag my purchases on the floor!! It would have been nice if she put a smile on her face, even if it were fake. Even though they have good prices, I won't be coming back here because I felt sorry for the animals and the customer service put me off.

Their prices constantly outstrip those of bigger, chain pet stores, and I've bought a pet carrier (£17.85) and a hutch and run (£109.99) from there. Both are excellent, and still serve me now, and I'd certainly look to them if I needed similar equipment in the future. As well as this kind of product, they sell food, rugs, scratching posts, essentially anything you can name to do with pets. They also, of course, sell the pets themselves, with an impressive range covering everything from rabbits to rodents and birds to bearded dragons. The staff are also extremely helpful, even coming out of the shop to ask if you need help if you're looking at the various hutches at the front.

They also have a lot of advice and information displayed, which is handy if you need help with your pet's requirements. The staff are quite friendly in here, if not a little quiet. I found what I needed quite easily when I went in, which was some cat biscuits and so there was no need for me to ask for any assistance. They also had a few bits and bobs stocked outside such as dog treats, which was nice and also sensible as they really are bursting at the seams inside. Overall, it is a great little pet shop!

Unfortunately, there was no prices on any of the tanks, and the shop owner was very busy having an in depth conversation with somebody else. Hopefully when I go in next time, I'll be able to buy some! All of the other tanks (other than the tropical fish) had prices on them. We used to pop here fairly regularly when our pet rats were alive. It was handy having a reasonably priced and no-nonsense pet food shop so close by. It is a fairly cluttered little shop, but you can buy various pet foods by weight. This means that you get better value than when you have to buy bulk bags from places like Pets At Home. Service is fairly friendly and they'll happily point you in the right direction if you get a bit bewildered by the sheer volume of choice.
