I have gone to churches in Indiana, Atlanta, and Chicago; ABE is still my favorite! I thought ABE would be a typical "baptist" church, but I was wrong! The pastor, Jeff, is the nicest pastor I have ever met. He is very personable and shows more care for his congregation than I've ever seen. There are two services. A 9am (traditional) service and a 10:45am (contemporary) service. There is also a contemporary Saturday night service. I have only been to the contemporary services. The message always seems to be something that will make you think, and leads to good discussion with your significant other or friends afterwards. Jeff speaks with a passion every Sunday that is seldom seen. The songs are usually great choices. It almost always helped me relax and focus on why I was there. I wasn't in Evansville long enough to get involved with ABE's missions trips but I know they go to Pass Christian near New Orleans and an orphanage in India. I loved hearing about both. Whenver I go back to Evansville, Sunday morning is usually a highlight of my trip. I wish I could pick the church up and put it near me in Chicago. I encourage everyone to hear Jeff speak at least once.
