Obviously there are the…read more National Road and Zane Grey Museums but also housed in this complex is a museum devoted to local pottery. The museums are operated by the Ohio Historical Connection. The lady at the front desk said you could take a self-guided tour or that they also offered guided tours. We opted for the guided tour and has a very enthusatic young man as our guide. Harry was very knowledgeable about the three museums and gave an excellent - although a bit long - tour of the museums. The National Road section of the museum includes a large diaroma of the national road and the history of the road. There are numerous exhibits including an old Conestoga wagon, various sleighs, and vintage and antique automobils. The Zane Grey part of the museum contains a recreation of his writing studio and a history of his work. Zane Grey wrote all his books in long hand. His wife then typed them on a old typewrtier and supposedly corrected his spelling and grammar while typing. Finally, the local pottery museum has an excellent collection of local and regional pottery. The tour guide gave a good explanation of the processes used in the crafting of pottery. The museum is just off of I-70 at Norwich. Allow 1-2 hours - depending on how much you want to absorb.

This time we were planning a trip to the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton, OH for the weekend. We planned it perfectly to allow us to stop here first when they open up. When we arrive, it's like most wineries that we've ever been to, it's in the middle of no where, long drive on back roads, which always tells us this is going to be good. :) We arrived and as soon as you see the location of the winery, it's breathtaking, as it sits on a hillside and oversees the area of beautiful nature, it's incredible. They have seating as you arrive in the front of the winery, on the side in a shaded area and in the back, in which where we preferred. They have several large areas around the property where they grow their grapes at on the property. The owner was very sweet and nice, as I like to ask too many questions, but she was kind and provided me some feedback. Majority and if not all of the wine is sourced from the estate directly. Some of the grapes they had to outsource because of a bad growing season and or they aren't planting any longer. Importantly enough they stay local in Ohio, but one of the grapes they obtain from New York. Moving on about the important part is the wine. We both tried our own flights, I had the Chambourcin, Country Ridge, Terra Red and Crooked Creek. They were all very good. The Chambourcin is a dry red aged in an american oak barrel, and has an amaging taste. The Red is a blend of two different red wines and my favorite, and the Country Ridge was another favorite as it was an off-dry red. My wife loved the white wines. The wines were all excellent. This was our first stop and didn't want to leave, that's how nice it's here. These are the type of wineries we enjoy stopping at. I asked the owner how long they've been here. She said interesting story that they've been here officially 27 years, but opened up 4 years after purchasing the property and planting the grapes. It allowed the grapes enough time to actually be prepared enough to make an estate wine. She said when they seen the property was for sale and it was 1200 acres, they purchased 55 acres, signed the paperwork and 3 days later they owned the property. What an amazing story they have. This is a special place to visit and indulge on the wine. She also made a recommendation on a restaurant in Wooster, OH that we took her up on her recommendation, and she was right, it was awesome. I highly recommend visiting this establishment. So worth it. One more thing the name of the winery, why Terra Cotta? I didn't ask but should have. One cool thing is when you are served a cheese board and or anything it's all on a terra cotta material. Very cool. How about the prices, they're right to the point.

Terra Cotta Vineyards is a short drive away from I-70 and from Muskingum University, but worth the…read moreviews and the wine and the friendly service! Driving out to the vineyard, you will experience beautiful views and then you will be rewarded once you get inside. Plenty of parking outside and the winery looks out on their rolling vineyards. Terra Cotta is owned by a couple who have been making wine for a while. The winery has been open for 17 years, but their experience extends beyond that. We went early on a Friday afternoon and since it was slow, we had an opportunity to chat with the owners. I was impressed with their participation in local community events and their connections to other wineries around Ohio (they know the owners of several). They were set up for a nighttime event on the day we were there and they do Paint and Sips occasionally as well. Although you won't get Terra Cotta wines at the big Ohio Wine Fest in Kirtland or the North Market Wine Fest in Columbus, it's worth the drive out there to try out the wines and find one you like. They have everything from sweet to dry. Our favorite was the Terra Red, so we bought a bottle. My only regret is that we didn't get to try all of their wines, but we were on a road trip, so we just sampled this time around. Hopefully we can get back there soon!

I do not like bluegrass music, but my dad and uncle do. Apparently, they've been going here for years! Who knew? My love for live music overruled my dislike for bluegrass and I enjoyed the bands' music and talent. Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers was the headliner and boy were they talented. Their fiddler Jason Barrie was amazing! These guys were very good and fun to listen to. Each song told a story. I felt like I had taken a ride in the Delorean back to the past in the historic Pennyroyal Opera house. The opera house itself hasn't changed much and I was fascinated by it. Take a look at the names and dates of some of the acts that have played here in my photos! There was a $12 cover charge, free pie (suggested donation), and you can meet and greet the bands. This was a night I'll never forget.

There is usually missing ceiling or heavily water-stained tiles. Some of the screens have wrinkles. The men's restroom is a disgusting mess. There are 2 urinals, and at least one is always broken or missing. There are 3 toilets and there is at least one that's out of commission every visit to this theatre. We have been this theatre twice this month and they still have no ice for the drinks. Nothing ever gets fixed at this theatre. There are usually 4 to 5 people working behind the counter but still only one line open to sell tickets and concessions. I cost me $31.00 for 2 matinee tickets and concessions way more than a streaming service for a month. I enjoy going to the movie theatre once in a while but at these prices and the overall experience at this theatre are not worth it.

I spent a good 9 years of my childhood going to this theater. Its one of the cherries found in…read moreMcconnelsville. Being the only movie theater in the town, and only able to show one movie at a time, you are kind of limited unless you want to drive the next city over for a half hour drive. However the Opera House is an amazing location that's worth the stop. You walk in and this place is huge! there is a lower level as well as a balcony level all filled with chairs viewed at the main stage. All the chairs are kind of old time movie style, they aren't those massive lazy boy seats, but more like the bench seats that movies used to have. There are so many seats in this building, you could bring a party of 20 people and still have tons of space for other movie goers. They have all sorts of entertainment within this building, they have new movies, plays, events, as well as paranormal activity! That's right, haha Opera House has been known to be one of the more haunted locations in Ohio. Since I used to live in this town, I came to know the owners of this establishment. I spoke with the first owner and he told me of a time when he was working on the projector late at night when suddenly he heard a piano being played from the stage. He walked down the stairs and into the doorway of the first level, where he saw the piano on stage, but nobody sitting there. He then walked toward the stage down the center isle to the stage, looked under the stage (the section where actors would change when doing a play, and there was nobody, But when he came out from under the stage he looked to his left and he swore he saw an Usher from when the building was first built walking down the right isle toward him. Talk about freaky! There have been so many documentaries done on this building, and it brings in all sorts of people from out of town. I never personally experienced anything freaky, so call me a skeptic lol. Still a fun story however.
